Ah, Foton View, an absolute classic. This model originated from the 1989 Toyota HiAce H100. In the 2000s, many Chinese car companies introduced Toyota's technology and launched their own modified HiAce models. This is an early Foton View, which is very rare and may have been brought to Africa by the Chinese engineering team. It uses a 2.5-litre 4J25TC TDi engine, which is also rare, because the common H100 uses a gasoline engine or a 2.8-litre 4JB1. It doesn't seem to be in a good state now, but this is a precious classic. Please treat it well.
Foton View is basically a knock-off Hiace with Isuzu engines on them. No wonder they're also a bit common here in the Philippines. It's on the lowest level or cheapest option on buying a van here.

@@edwinvanderveen5527 there is nothing in this countries, not even tools, the van is probably aligned but im pretty sure nobody has the tools or know how on removing the steering wheel
As long as it drives, why not? In some area, some angkots here has this problem too (especially the one that looks beaten up just like this). This is also combined with broken piston rings (resulting in blue smoke), and bald tyres.
It's a manual transmission car so you could use engine break with the engine still running, and the fuel consumprion would be still zero. So much starting is bad for the the starter motor and the battery.
It's not really dangerous, even if the car has power steering you can still steer without it Similarly with assisted brakes, they will still work for a few minutes or several full brake pedal pushes before vacuum runs out, and after that you can still brake without issue, just need to push the pedal harder the real danger is from turning off the engine by the key, you can very easily turn the key barrel too far back, and the steering lock may engage! This is very dangerous when driving if this occurs.
@@RohanSanjith steering will get locked if you take the key off, I've driven my mk4 downhill with the engine off and it's totally manageable, albeit quite dumb and dangerous
It's dangerous because the car is basically freewheeling. With the engine on and in gear, the engine itself helps the car to brake, but besides that you also have vacuum on the brake lines which makes the pedal a LOT softer, without vacuum you almost have to put your whole weight on the pedal. You will also have power steering, ESC, ABS and all other electronic driving assists. You can drive a car with the engine off but keep the key on the barrel for the steering not to lock. You just won't have any assist and it's very dangerous to do so because you're basically inside a 2ton metal jail soapbox car.
7:04 ? good fuel saving ? the brakes are not going to work nearly as good, as if the engine was still running and if you let of the throttle the engine will not use any fuel at all, but the power steering, brake assist and everything else still works, because of the momentum of the car rotating the engine, if you dont use the clutch also the engine will brake the car depending on which gear you are in more or less, therefore you will have to use the brakes way less and they wont overheat as quickly, saving you brakes and potential crashes ...
but what if the slope gives you just the right speed without braking ? If you need to slow down sure killing the engine seems like a bad idea, but if you don't then I guess you're saving a tiny bit of fuel by killing it. As for safety well it's another matter
Need to show this to all those Made in China cars naysayers. Most Sprinters and Ducatos would not last that much abuse over nearly 20 years, at very least without getting all clapped out. This Foton is hanging by a thread and still soldiers on.
if the engine's not running the brake would still work, but since the Brake Booster doesn't work you need to put a lot of weight on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle unless it has Air Brakes 🤷♂ you still have assisted brakes as long as the Air Supply Tank has sufficient pressure
You can still use the brakes about 5 full pedal pushes before the booster looses vacuum, and even afterwards it's fine using the brakes unassisted, just need more force
