Central Africa, at Your Own Risk | Deadliest Journeys

  • In the Central African Republic, the civil war has ended up destabilizing a country with an already fragile balance. The wealth of the underground does not trickle down into the demanding daily lives of the inhabitants. Cities are almost cut off from the world, like that of Ngoto.
The road leading there is impassable, ambulances no longer pass, so medical evacuations are done by motorbike. An ordeal for the sick. A race against time or rather a race against death. During the last civil war, many taxis and buses were destroyed or stolen.
Vehicles are lacking, so some bush taxis use livestock trucks. The journey is hellish for the passengers, but everyone maintains their good humor even when it comes to spending a night under the stars.

Not to be ugly to your nice sentiments, but the UK was a giant thievery racket, stealing land, resources, and people. The "empire" was a mafia-like racket given an air of legitimacy by royal 'pomp and circumstance' with the King as the Mafia don and the British military as the enforcers. We in America are obviously complicit as well. Trillions are owed to Africa, India, the world over in reparations.

    For heart problems…
I am watching this waiting for tests in disbelief on how much suffering they have to endure to be seen by a doctor
Makes me realize how fortunate and grateful I am to be in this country dealing with my health problems with a structured medical system to help me

Which hospital are you in? Used to live across the street from st Paul's hospital and they saved my life when I was 20! Had a huge blood clot in my leg. I live in alberta now and AHS is the lowest paying Healthcare provider in the country. So our doctors are either foreigners just doing their time, earning Canadian citizenship so they can go home, say they practiced on Canadians and earn triple what they did before. Sometimes it's to my benefit, like right now I'm seeing the best psych I've seen in years. The guy is from Pakistan but he was practicing in the UK before he came here. He's a better psychiatrist for it too. But the one before him was a racist black man who enjoyed messing with his white patients. Things like trying to mess up a care plan put in place by a specialist I was seeing. He wanted to stop my pain meds while I was in the psych ward and have me withdraw while I was held in there against my will. I got the phone number for the clinic that the specialist worked at and gave him a call. He absolutely reemed out my psychiatrist and it was after that they brought in the one I'm seeing now. Not even the other doctors trusted this one doctor.

They saved my life and every day I try to do something of benefit to thoes around me. I hope your outcome will be positive. I'm so sick of hearing how bad everything is when in fact we are all lucky and life is good if you take the time to notice the beauty.

@@EssayMaestro Do you have sources for this?
I certainly understand that no country is perfect, but I have not found evidence of the Australian Government using tax dollars to provide any direct military aid to African countries or militant groups within recent history.
I would like my country to do better on the world stage, but from my research the overall impact of the Australian Government as well as non-government institutions on the African continent has been a vast net positive. Over 200 Australian companies are working on projects across 40 African countries. Australia has in recent years provided 670,000 Kenyan school children with meals, as well as food relief to over 6 million people in Niger, Food rations and essential supplies for 42,000 families in the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with safe water for over 170,000 people and better education for 20,000 Congolese children, as well as clean drinking water, and water treatment systems to reduce the incidence of Cholera in Zimbabwe cutting the death rate from 4200 in 2008, to 20 deaths in 2010. The CSIRO of Australia has been providing agricultural assistance programs to boost food security, as well as mitigating the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations.
Australia has provided more than 65,000 peacekeepers to United Nations and multilateral missions since 1947. This includes participation in 22 missions across Africa since 1960.
I dont believe any government has completely clean hands, Australia included. But Australian tax dollars are not being channelled into providing firearms via the Australian government to fuel conflict in Africa. I'm ashamed that western countries as a whole are not doing enough to support the African continent, nor enough to ensure greater peace and security in the region. However Australia is likely doing more to help than you realise.

The ride was always fun until you hear on tv or radio that people died or the truck or buses turned over and it's always on hill sides. Our leaders need to be clever brother, we need a good plan to face these rude and exploiting western countries lead by "USA". Everyone will exploit us if we continue like this, even chinese are exploiting now because we are weak. One of the apartheid leaders here in South Africa said "If blacks can run government, they will still a lot of government money, trains will not be maintained to such an extent to be regard as unsafe mode of transport. Sewerage will run in our streets till we get used to it, etc". They know us as blacks that we can't lead. UAE made fun of Nigeria, saying "look at Nigeria, they have everything and we have only oil but look at our success. They don't have leaders". That proves that us as blacks we can't lead.

@@user-sj8ec6nf6o The colonial powers share great responsibility for the suffering. The biggest crimes they committed was to draw artificial lines on the map cutting through tribal areas and to take out natural resources from those countries. But we also have to be realistic. Due to its geography, creating and maintaining infrastructure is a near impossible task in countries like CAR, DRC or the Republic of Kongo. Places that are better off tend to be outside of the tropical area like Kenia or Tansania. It isn't any different to South America where roads are hard to come by in the Amazon rainforest (not to mention that mankind can ill afford to cut and burn the rainforests). Many of the African are far overpopulated compared to what these countries can sustain. Imagine if one would introduce infrastructure and technology. Millions of menial jobs would instantly disappear like the sandfishers. An improvement in living conditions would bring with it a host of other problems.

Can you locate an honest charity in Central Africa to whom donations can be given to help the people? Do you know of Catholic Priests in Central Africa who can organize relief for the people if donations are sent?
Could you please make a video on this?
It is difficult for people in the West to know who are true, honest charities who use donations to help people in need.

What a documentary ! I have no words to express my appreciation to the creators of this film.
I am also from a very poor , inefficient, corrupt country. India.even then i cannot comprehend that health care ,roads , infrastructure and supply of essential items and suffering of the citizens will be this much abysmal.i hope and pray almighty that situations will improve in near future
Like our counterparts in developed world i thank my country for providing decent health care, physical infrastructure and essential supplys.

It is amazing that a Warlord in Central Africa can gain the hearts and minds of the population by just handing out the donated food items & show receipts for infrastructure improvements to the UN Aid Committee. It wouldn't cost them much to be recognized as benefactor and defacto leader. Once one started doing it in their region other's would follow. I can't imagine how horrible the existence is there except for the strongest of the strong and meanest of the mean.

Politicians miss the bigger picture. If they use the government money to uplift the country they will attract more investment from outside and they will be more for them. But instead they want to loot the little revenue they collect and leave people in dire conditions.

If the corrupt "goverments" of Africa would just fix the roads, that one thing would be a tremendous help for the people. Access to markets to sell goods, buy goods, be educated, see a doctor... It would do wonders!
