Good questions. Answers: 1) ERP consultants are usually exactly that. They try to understand a company's workflow and then sometimes help pick the best fitting ERP system, sometimes help implement a system, sometimes help suggest ways of changing workflow to take advantage of ERP systems. 2) The best training for becoming an ERP consultant is to understand the businesses that use ERP first, and then learn the software later. You have to decide if it is worthwhile.
Answers continued: 3) Try getting a job inside the management of the supply chain of a company first. Then you get paid to learn. Also it would be hard to be really credible as a consultant without some experience first. 4) If you are training on a particular ERP system, that would depend on the system itself. 5) You will probably not be able to get a job as an ERP consultant just having taking a course on it. Hope that helps.
+Auto Rocker If by MIS you mean management information system, then that is a more general term that refers to any data based business system of which ERP is one. An ERP is a more of a targeted term. ERP systems specifically handle the flow of information between the different departments and core areas of a business that pertain to preparing goods and services, tracking their creation and delivery and handling the financial aspects as well. Hope this helps.
+ilikeoldelpaso while a number of other very powerful products like HRM (Human Resource Management), CRM (Customer or Contact Relationship Management) or POS (Point of Sale) amongst many others are sometimes considered to be under the ERP umbrella, they are relative newcomers to the field. Its origins are in the 1950s and was, as you correctly pointed out, focused on manufacturing and supply-chain. We considered taking a wider approach and including other products. We were concerned that it was too much to cover in a single sitting. We also did some research and learned that most of the confusion we were trying to address came from the more traditional definition of ERP. We weren't so much confused as trying to limit the scope of this video to something understandable. Perhaps it is worthwhile adding new videos on some of those areas as we have on BI and EDI. Thanks for the feedback.
+S Dek We're sorry you feel that way. This video came about during an intern training session when one of our young students suggested turning a shortened presentation into a fun cartoon video. We then had her do the animating as part of her training.
This is an excellent introduction to ERP for anyone not already familiar with ERP's many touch points in an organization.
Humor is the best teacher. I especially like customers appearing over the horizon at 2:52 Thanks for the enlightenment.
What a great illustration. I am a quality consultant in the UK and I like the workflow explanations and interaction of processes.
yeah...."pretty cool" is the perfect description for ERP

I think you are confused with mrp, a subset of erp
you've only addressed the supply chain perspective..

The presentation is designed to sell you a product not to give you accurate information.
