I can see that budget combo being a best seller - you are certainly doing a great job of showing what can be done without expensive kit. Good to see you fishing with Wayne again, I think your humour did him some good. Strange how that bass ended up snagged up, might have just been the grip lead caught on something and (what looked like) the soft budget rod made it feel more solid than it was. The bagged fish must have weighed you down a bit going back, but worth the effort. Have a good Christmas Tom, look forward to seeing more in the new year. 👍
Hi John, thank you mate. Yes, I think you're spot on with the bass snag. I'm pretty sure (with the powers of hindsight) that it was just the lead that was snagged, and as you say, a shorter, softer rod than I'm used to probably exasperated the situation. Basically, in a nutshell, I made a massive meal of it... 🤣🤣
Love the video, Tom! My dad (we go fishing together) showed me your channel. We're around 6 months into our fishing adventures and there's a lot to learn, so watching your videos are a monumental help to the big learning curve that is fishing! Thanks for putting the effort into the content, me and my dad love it.
Hi mate. Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate that. I hope you're enjoying the journey so far. Sea fishing can be so hard at times. Just remember there will always be blanks along the way. Don't let them get you down, they just make the good sessions even sweeter!
@@FishyTom No problem, Tom! Also have ordered some of those lovely rigs. Excited to get using them! Just a quick question, when the season comes, do you know where to get peeler crab (live)? I've heard they're hard to get a hold of!
Loving the video big Tom. That bargain combo will be getting a price rise if you keep showing it catching so well. Amazing bass very well done fella. Want to thank you for a great year of fun informative fishing adventures. Wishing you and the family a very merry Christmas. And may 2025 be your best year ever. Stay safe well and happy fella. All the best. John 👍👍
When you got snagged, saying "I can't Budget, I can't Budget", guessing didn't mean to throw that pun in? Excellent watch as always, such good fun between you two!
Great video again, cannot believe the quality of the tackle we have available at such a cheap price. Getting a baited rig over a 100 yards for £50 is nuts compared to 25 years ago. I notice you prefer the loop knot for the circle book, yet others advocate the snelled hook approach. Given your background of match fishing, I can only assume a lot of thought and practice made you choose the loop. So what the advantages of the loop please?
Thanks, mate. It's a tricky one with the knot selection, as I haven't fished the two side by side over a period of time, so can't really give a definitive answer as to which is better, which is probably the case with most anglers. As with a lot of knots, it all comes down to confidence. Find a knot you like and works for you and stick with it. I originally used to simply tie on the circle as I would any hook. Then, after a little thought and research into how the circles work, a loop knot made so much sense to me. Giving the hook freedom to rotate and "set" into the corner of the mouth. To me, snelling a hook increases the chance of pulling it out of the fish straight, thus not hooking the fish. That's just my take on it. I've had success with the loop, so will be sticking with it for now.
Great video, well done with that 1st bass getting it in! How far did you cast the live bait? Is it a balance of far enough without the live bait flying off? Im going to try it tomorrow. 👍
Yeah, so i gently lobbed it maybe 30yds. Further than I would necessarily cast when targeting bass, but as I had cod in mind I went just that little bit further.
Tom mate, that budget setup is the height of sophistication here in Australia!! Rubber band rods and reels supplied with the handles on the right… so the Aussies just leave them there!! On the right🫣.. The rigs and methods you and Wayne show work just as well here👍… Must be 10 years ago you let my son use the vacuum cleaner in your shop!!!!
Hi Tom, me again, sorry! I've received your urfe rigs today (great delivery times, so thanks for that!), just had a question from a newbie fisher. On the biggest eye on the urfe bar, I'm assuming that attaches to the weight, on the swivel-side of the urfe bar, I'm right in saying that attaches to the main line directly? Thanks Tom.
Hi mate. Yes, so your shockleader will attach to the swivel at the top of the urfe, the snood will attach to the swivel on the middle of the bar, then the lead attaches to the clip at the bottm (slide the sleeve up).
@@FishyTom Thank you, Tom! Used the urfe for the first time yesterday - 9 hour session with 1 conger! Definitely not the rigs fault though 🤣, even the scratching had no success!
How far out you reckon you can flop the live bait on the Urfe without trouble? I always think of sliders whenever I catch a potential bait, but they can be a faff.
You can cast them as far as you like, it's just how alive it'll be when it lands, that's the issue! I usually just gently flop it out there, 30yds max I'd say. If I want to fish a live bait at range I'll fish a live bait rig (a small baited hook off the back of a large circle).
This shows its not the tacke you use ! Its where you put your bait! If budget tackle gets your kids fishing its better than them being on the streets .. thanks Tom
It's just a generic cheap beach combo, to be honest, mate. One you can pick up in most shops for around that price. At that price point brands etc don't really matter.
Why not just say 1 of the combos is OK and 1 is very nice!! Wife just said, "you've got that exact rod and reel... you've got a few of those "combos".... hang on 12 x ..... right then!!" Think I'm in trouble..... again!! 😂😂😂

Hi tom another cracking video about the budget combi set up a couple of great bass and Wayne's cod wasn't to bad😅 stay safe & tight lines
Thanks matey. We both really enjoyed the session, lovely to catch a couple of nice fish in amongst all the usual suspects!
Great fun on the old beginners set up i bet with them bass. Well done tom. All the best n a very mery xmas from GRIMSBY

Thank you, Ian. The bass were a very welcome surprise.
Awesome tom. Just shows what you can buy just to get you fishing, for a budget.
It's been a barrel of laughs playing with it, and a good reminder that rig and bait presentation (and a bit of luck) are the important bits.

The old floppy stick doesnt half make the fight footage more dramatic, hooped over and bent through to the butt. 😆
