I think this is more for people who are SURE of a concept and just want to review before a test, than it is for those just learning about it and want to understand the concept from the beginning. I'll be back after I'm SURE of the concept.
+Mc Kenna I think Khan Academy does a better job of introducing you to new concepts, including this concept, because I found the Khan Academy one much easier to follow. There are no graphics.
AvatardShwag The greatest Biology, Anatomy, & Physiology teaching videos I have found on You Tube are from a college asst professor out of California named Wendy Riggs. (Her channel is called Wendy Riggs) She explains things so clearly that I understand them MUCH better from her than with my college professor. Carrying a 98.4% in Anatomy and Physiology I this semester...and THAT miracle is pretty well because I found ;Wendy's channel... and, of course, LOTS of hard work.
Let me sum it up so you can let it sink in: Polar molecules: -do not have symmetry in their chemical formula -may be bonded with Hydrogen Nonpolar molecules: -Have symmetry in their chemical formula -may be composed of only 1 element -may only be composed of Hydrogen and Carbon
To those who are having trouble keeping up,(I am not making fun of I simply comment to offer advice), turning on the captions can help with absorbing all of the information. Also, get used to the fact that your not going to always get the concept the with the first explanation,(Especially with Chemistry and the b**ch particle, AKA the electron) and that is why the rewind feature should be used often. Another thing to remember is that this is meant to be an overview meant for consultation, not for in depth learning of the concept being taught in its entirety. I hope this helped.

I am watching this in 2019 and realizing how irrelevant and unrelatable the 1 direction references are even though they were the sensation of the time at the time of this video(5.5-6 years ago)
I love Crash Course Chemistry. You guys seem to be picking topics that I'm currently studying at school, like in the last two weeks. Best exam revision ever :)
I discovered this channel a few days ago and I love it, but I feel there may have been a couple of fairly significant slip-ups in this video. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hank says water is able to dissolve virtually anything remotely non-polar. Should he not have said that water is able to dissolve virtually anything remotely *polar*?
These videos explain some concepts that I just couldn't fully wrap my head around by reading about it in the textbook. Thank you so much for clearing things up with this informative and funny video!
When i was watching this chemistry crash course back years ago, hank had only a hunder thousand views and i thought people should appreciate this crash course more. Im so happy each cc chemistry videos has more than a million views now.
I survive off of these videos to learn things that my teacher fails to teach (basically all of it). I find the speed perfectly funny and it isn't a problem for me to simply pause the video, write a couple notes and continue on my way. Thankyou for making these! I watch a lot of crash course simply for the fun and interesting topics, or like now, to survive yet another year of school.
I like both, chemistry and physics, but for me they aren't so different. I like to think that chemistry is just a little part of The Greatest Science, called physics. And this part (plus quantum mechanics) is what I like in physics.
I'm new to this topic, and have seen multiple of CrashCourse's videos. Yes they are fast and hard to understand. Here's a trick for people on computer: Right click on the page, Go to inspect Go to console And copy and paste this code into the console: document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0].playbackRate = x Change the x to whatever speed you can understand. I prefer .85 and I understand what the video is about Thank me later
Great, your better than my professor but you explain too fast I wish you can take it a bit slow. The speed is challenging though it makes me listen attentively. But seriously your awesome it's really a big help. Thank you so much. :)
Chemistry IS another language. I hella tripped when a tutor told me that its like we are learning another language. Totally changed my approach in how to study. I stopped trying to figure out why it is what it is, it just is. 🙄
What a goat. All through chemistry last year i never knew how to tell the difference between something polar & nonpolar but i still passed w a B. now i’m in AP Bio & it’s very important to know
I love the way you have so much enthusiasm in teaching chemistry, you're well educated and would be beneficial if all teachers were as keen to teach chemistry as you are. Thank you for you're videos and looking forward to more on the future
Okay, for everyone complaining about how quickly this video is going and being unable to comprehend it here are some tips 1. Have a notebook and take notes on important terms and concepts that you hear 2. Pause to write stuff down or just to give yourself time to process and work out the concepts in your head. 3. If you need to, slow the video down to 0.75 speed. It might be easier to understand if it's spoken more slowly. 4. Don't get frustrated if you don't get it the first watch through it's okay to rewatch until you understand. 5. If you truly can't get it from this video it's totally okay to search for one which is more at the pace you need to go to learn.
Wait a minute candy bars, you know candy bars, they usually come in a wrapper, just like you wrap a Christmas present and Christmas happens when it is cold, cold as in Alaska and in Alaska there are Polar Bears....polar.. Polar Bears... Po... Polarity. Yesss.....I understood now.
7:57 Can someone explains what he means by "ice-like clusters that keep the volume of the cold water relatively high, with rising temps these clusters dissapear while the volume of the truly liquid rises resulting in a a major characteristic of water having its highest density at 4 degrees" Am I right in thinking he means that the same mass of icey water takes up more volume than liquid water, so it is less dense and floats. This also means water is most heavy at 4 degrees because at temperatures below this it creates hydrogen bonds, which take up room, and at temperatures above this it expands as bonds break and water molecules move faster, increasing the pressure, causing thermal expansion?
Honestly, changing the speed is so helpful for these videos. Some of them I can watch at 1.5 or even 2 if it's something I'm familiar with and just watching for anything unfamiliar. For the ones I'm less familiar with, I usually watch at normal speed but keep my hand on the space bar to pause as soon as he says something new. Good luck to everyone! :)
2:25 this metaphor wierdly makes sense. what really helps is that more protons mean more electronegativity and the more electrons as it goes down means less. helps a ton.
