You know… I’m actually very interested in hearing you walk through the entire story of For Honor. Story to seasonal lore. I would absolutely listen/watch your voice and description of this, honestly pretty awesome story! Honestly I got this game for free, and what caught my interest was the story xD Maybe that’s why I’m doodoo in multiplayer. But seriously, would watch the hell out of your sweet voice over the For Honor story. The lore of “you’re a raider, legendary!”
Thank you so much. That means a lot and I'm very grateful for the high praise! I'd certainly like to continue making lore videos as it was an interesting experience making this video. I'm sure you're better then you think you are in multiplayer too. 👍
He was a perfect choice for the character, I've always ran with male Warden, so it would have been nice to have an option to switch so I could hear the voice work of the other actors. Glad you found it interesting. 🙂
This was a pretty great vid and honestly I agree with you about the breakables/observables clashing with the actual gameplay. As for apollyon's intro I think it was close to perfect excluding the observables and apollyon's telling of the story. It shows her being ruthless to her foes but a savior to those that follow her while also demonstrating her personal belief system and setting her up as a threatening antagonist. It also seems like warden is meant to not fully understand who his allegiance is to when he joins the blackstones like he may know that apollyon is in charge but he doesn't fully understand what that means. There's something to be said about holden being foreshadowed as an ally to the warden in the final battle due to the contrast of holden's treatment of daubeny and his troops to apollyon's methods.
Glad you enjoyed the video. The observables are great and add a lot of lore to the game but they do conflict with the gameplay in certain areas, maybe having them available on a second story run would have worked, but I guess you risk your players losing interest if they didn't like it the first time round. Holden Cross' treatment of Daubeny and his men is quite different from that of Apollyon and that's why I feel a misdirection to the player about him leading could have been leaned on more by the writers. His later change in the story and allegiance to the future Lord Warden to me looks more like foreshadowing on a second play through, as by this point in the story, we're only just learning of the Blackstone's warlord and methods and how heavily it contrasts to Holden's mercy towards Daubeny.
@@Mattman_90 I think it would have been interesting if beating the story allows a sort of "lore" mode where you walk through the maps with the observables and maybe even being able to observe items and characters more closely. Essentially a mode that separates you from the gameplay so you can immerse yourself in the setting and lore. You also make a fair point about the foreshadowing, I suppose it's just the fact I've completed the story that makes the stark contrast to holden and apollyon so noticeable. On a separate note, another difference between the two is that holden also had a demon name like apollyon but didn't use it himself if I recall correctly. All the differences between them and holden's eventual betrayal make me wonder if early stages of the story sported holden as the protagonist but they instead went a different direction.
@@TheDark10003 It's a very good theory, and Holden does opt to not use his demon name of Asmodai (I think that's what it's called). Holdens betrayal honestly needed some screen time, it's all but confirmed but given that Apollyon wants betrayers punished, it makes one wonder why she didn't send someone to punish the Warden for a start, though given Holden's status as second of the Blackstone's, it's very likely no one wanted to chase down Holden given his abilities in battle. I think the plan was always to have Holden be a side character, Ubi kind of shot themselves in the foot by making Warden, Raider and Orochi's gender selectable by the player. As such they couldn't be named nor appear for the ending. However Holden appearing on behalf of the Lord Warden to meet with the other faction leaders is certainly the start of a redemption arc that surprisingly came back around with Gryphon's release.
@@Mattman_90 yeah I feel like the betrayal is one of many parts of the story that could've been expanded upon in the story mode such as the blackstone legions rise to power, the conflicts between the vikings and knights before the main story and, in terms of recent additions, how tozen is tied to the kyoshins. I think ubi could have had the story follow a single named protagonist but instead opted to go for greater appeal with multiple main characters and a cast of supporting characters from each faction. I feel like this route is a bit more complicated since it needs 3 main characters with drive and purpose while also being a little generic and tropeish so they appeal to a broader audience as well as a supporting cast that needs to have some reason to like, follow or support the blank slate of a mc. Personally I'd have liked more unique mcs since I feel each hero in for honor kind of has their own personality already that the player can relate to.
@@TheDark10003 Well in a sense the story did follow a single named character, that being Apollyon. She's very much the star of the show. Though I understand what you mean, the three main playable characters I think was necessary to have the player experience all three factions and honestly I think the story does work that way. There are elements that could be communicated better by the narrative to the player. The Blackstone's rise to power for example isn't really shown, it's told. After the mission 'The Blackstone Legion', the Iron Legion is too diminished to protect Ashfeld and Apollyon spends months having her Blackstones take the Iron Legion's place as guardians of the region. It's only after that she takes the fight to Valkenhiem. As for the Kyoshins, there could be some clue within the story but it's very likely that Kyoshin was not designed until well after the game's 2nd or 3rd year. I would like Ubi to add a gallery to the game, where players could see trailers across For Honor's history, character descriptions, story cut scenes at will etc. Maybe even concept art. I know it doesn't contribute to multiplayer but I think the inclusion would resonate positively with fans.
Honestly, Apollyon left such an impression on me she inspired an entire enemy force in the D&D campaign I DM; The Black Rose Knights and their leader Elyon. A terrifying black half-dragon clad in onyx black plate and wielding a great blade with with a perfect mix of brutallity and finesse. Must admit I got a kick out of describing how she swung her weapon by the blade to place the guard behind someones knee before pulling them off their feet and impaling them with a half-swording thrust (similar to Warmommy's OOS version of her reposte stab), or that time she grabbed an enemy knight and pulled them into the way of an oncoming swing before "disarming" her would-be attacker.
That's amazing! The fact that you were inspired by the character and added elements to your D&D campaign is fantastic. I would have loved to have played that campaign. Was it 5e?

Always love some lore in any game

Debatable given the numbers so far but it was a fun video to make and as long as someone enjoys it. It's worth it.
