Sometimes a beautiful song and an amazing singer come together to create something greater than its parts, I've never heard a better example! Absolutely thrilling!
Both the singing and the cinematic aproach to the music are absolutely delightful. Edit: now that I have watched the video I can only say Bravo! To both the great MDM and this extremely fine channel (and it's artistic director).

Dear Malcom, There are many examples of MDM singing with nuance here on You Tube. The Otello arias, O Paradiso, The Flower song, Cielo E Mar, the complete Lamento Di Federico sung almost completely in mezza voce`, M'Appari, Fanciulla, The Forza arias, Lohengrin and La Juive, and 1954 Rarrissimo Tosca from Napoli where MDM encores the E Lucevan Le Stelle with mezza voce` and a reinforced diminuendo. Of course singing softly was never easy for him and was not a strong attraction of his voice, but whatever he brought to the operatic stage was never an option for any other tenor before or after. Enjoy
Let's hear him not be boring. He was a good singer, sure, but without that ear splitting volume he wouldn't be famous today. I don't care for him at all
@@AnderAlex-qv9xt Corelli was great also,I prefer the baritones singing this song, and del monaco really gives it socks, but yes corelli was possibly the greatest spinto
@@amantedellopera1681 it's truth. From last century was two the greatest. Del Monaco and Corelli, in my oppinion. From baritones Lourens Tibbet, Titta Ruffo, Gino Bechi, Robert Merrill are the best.

How beautifully he sings in the back of his head! Like a penitent saint. Unfortunate sound. Each sound goes up the stairs, the diaphragm moves - the sound moves away into the throat, the muscles of the throat and larynx contract - and the singing becomes poor, ugly, and the singer is not able to reproduce the usual cantilena.
Mario del Monaco, Franco Corelli, Jussi Bjorling and Carlo Bergonzi. I also would add the young di Stefano and Bulgarian Nikola Nikolov. They all are gone. These tenors are in my private library of recordings. I have always loved them. Pavarotti, to me was awful, Gigli initially was OK, but later lost my interest. Main problem with singers is that not always they have chosen right roles for their voices. Including Caruso unfortunately.
Dear John Betts, Impeccable diction, endless breath, constant flow of sound with an unyielding consistent vocal line, great high notes, fine interpretations, crystal clear bronze like quality, an ability to demonstrate anger and rage like no other tenor, during a 35 year career may have something to do with it.
Estupendo tenor, de los grandes!!!!
King of tenor!
This was Del Monaco's voice at its very best. One of the greatest singers of all time!
How marvelous to have Mario in the operatic world... What a handsome total package... Bravo!!!

The voice carries it all. I had forgotten how great a dramatic tenor he was. Thanks for the artistic embellishments.
Wonderful voice. At 83, I miss that time when this type of music was appreciated. It's useless to have regrets, other times, other memories.

Lovely drag on the cigarette too. Was that cinematic or did MDM smoke?
Shocking to see it now.
