No one sings this better than Caruso. A simple song made great by the master. Most singers over sing this song. Caruso gets your attention from the very beginning with the utter beauty of his voice and the complete absence of any forcing, then gradually builds to the wonderful climax. Caruso is one of those singers who always respects the song, an absence of ego in the singing. Bjorling had the same trait.

Now it has been 40 years since I first heard the voice of Caruso. I met many who heard him and now they are all gone. We are now at an age where many of his recordings have passed well over the 100 year mark. I for one as I grow older marvel even more than I did in 1971 when I first heard him and thought "My God". Now 40 years later I am just as awestruck. Now we have entered into the 2nd decade of the 21st century and it is our turn to watch the young say the same thing as we did so long ago.

I asked every person I could find who had heard him to tell me all about it. I was lucky that way, to at least hear from those who heard him live. He has brought more joy into my life than I can mention. In the year 2237 they will be talking about Caruso, He is not of the past, present, or future. He just is and will always be like a natural wonder of life itself.

This is Caruso with - again - in a beautiful interpretation of this song. To me, his talent lies in being able to reproduce the same line with totally different feelings. Note how he sings «Vorrei bacciar...» at 2:14, like he's lightly flirting with the girl in a garden full of flowers, then at 3:05, he revisits the same line with utter passion and almost darkness in the voice leading to the A and the finish with «l'ebbrezza del amor!» (the intoxication - like drunkenness - of love).

I am not a musician like you but I am grateful to persons, experts in this field, who explain important details.
I knew for example that Caruso came from a poor family but I did not know that he had less than two years of formal schooling as Tom said in his comments. Considering this and the perfection, the refinement of his deeply heart-felt interpretations I had to conclude that he was endowed with a divine talent as other geniuses.
    Greetings.

Buenos Aires me consagró.
Caruso poseía genialidad, no virtuosismo.

    2.
I noticed that Caruso expressed with his voice all "the soul" of the text and of the melody with extreme perfection, communicating it totally to the listeners. When two days ago I listened for the first time to his interpretation of Musica Proibita I was even more astonished: an incredible range of tones and colours of his extremely expressive voice that make the listener ecstatic. Kievest says better than me: "But it is the soulful singing, the open hearted singing by that uniquely beautiful

    DIVINE ARTIST!
I heard this incredible beautiful interpretation of Caruso for the first time last evening and I was stunned!
Now I understand why he has become a legend. A "multidimensional voice",extraordinary technique but not only this!
As Robert Becker writes:"For me, Heart is probably Caruso Greatest attribute!!!!!!!!! It is what speaks to people over the decades and century, it is his Great Heart that we all listen to."

Absolutely beautiful! Then again, what else can you expect from the best singer of all time. 13 dislikes!!! Must be Irishmen from New York City. Or maybe Rolling Stones fans. Another great version of this beautiful song is by Tito Gobbi, my favorite singer. Not in the class of Caruso, but I wish I had his voice

Dear Tom , thanks plus. Caruso singing Mozart would be like
Schipa singing Wagner... admire joseph Schmidt and have
    his old 78's on CD's.
There's never been another tenor to equal Caruso, never.

Tom, I hadn't listened to this beauty is quite a while; now, I can't stop the tears from flowing. Tender, beautiful, and powerful, all at the same time. My son, who is a big opera fan and loves Bjorling, is finally coming around to the incredible tenor who was Enrico Caruso.

    • @ramonavandermerwe1159
      @ramonavandermerwe1159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think they are both great, Bjorling has one of the finest voices of the 20th century. His only other rivals in my humble opinion, are Caruso and di Stefano. We will probably not see the likes of these great singers again. Pavarotti was great, the young Johnathan Antonie is very good, but the pickings are slim!
