    Another good and practical portion of information.
    In January, thanks to your inspiration, after watching a few videos from your KL and AF trips, I joined the program. as I wrote earlier in one of the comments under your video, on January 21st, I had my first KL flight. Since then, I have had a dozen or so flights and 5 days ago I got a silver FB card. During this time I processed a few delays, flight cancellations, plane changes, faults, but KLM always dealt with everything professionally. I still have some flights to do and by the end of May I should reach Gold status if nothing gets complicated. Flying KLM is a real pleasure. This Saturday I'm flying AF for the first time as Silver 😂

    Interesting video. From what I see, the XP part of Flying Blue is not for a casual flyer. In my view the XP program is a bit unsustainable, unless the person lives a nomadic lifestyle or as per your example takes long haul flights with various stops. There's other ways to earn XP of course, such as getting an AMEX credit card. Also, for partner airlines there's always some T&C's. For example, to earn XP with Transavia one needs to upgrade their ticket. Which is annoying since Transavia is often marked as the low cost airline of KLM, but upgrading your ticket often makes it equivalent to a KLM flight (excuse the little rant).
    I think miles are the true gold of the program, and this is where casually flyers can win if they in it for the long run. Miles can also be earned through partners, which helps as well. One thing I didn't see in the video is mentioning that every month Flying Blue has a promo on the miles tickets where someone can buy a trip for 20-50% less miles.

      @strictlyflying3247  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for your feedback! For me personally I stay loyal for the perks that the higher status brings. I don’t care so much about the miles, however for others they might matter more. There are many ways of earning miles apart from flying that I didn’t discuss in the video, but like I mentioned, if you fly a lot, it usually pays to stay loyal to one airline.

      well, to be honest, I am 30, I fly every week, so I can tell You, i started with the flying blue in end of December 2022, I became silver in 2023 september, as I started only like really flying from July i think, and I became gold now in January 2024, I normally when you have gold status, they give you instead of 10 xp, 15 xp, so You can easily maintain gold status after just 12 trips back and forth to for instance Amsterdam or Frankfurt from Paris or visa versa.

    Wanting yet another extra piece of luggage is unrealistic in my opinion, since there is only so much luggage that can fit on a plane. And if you receive an extra piece, that might lead to less possibility for others to bring checked luggage. So maybe the airline can think of another perk to give platinum members whether it is at the lounge or a better seat or a discount for future tickets bought.

    • @strictlyflying3247
      @strictlyflying3247  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I was a Gold member with TAP Portugal we were given an allowance of 3 checked in bags for free 😊 Now that we have to pay for virtually everything extra nowadays, I think it would be a minimum to allow Platinum members 2 pieces of checked in luggage.

  • @sueb1337
    @sueb1337 ปีที่แล้ว

    So when it says “choose any seats you want, they’re all free” on KLMs website of Platinum benefits, they only mean economy seats? One never has access to Business if seats are free at check in 24 hours before the flight?

    Platinum is not the highest achievable status in the Flying Blue program. Flying Blue Ultimate is, it is achieved by accumulating 1800 UXP (Ultimate Experience Points) within 2 years, and once reached the status lasts for 2 years.
    4:12
    Flying Blue Silver, Gold and Platinum members will from 2022 no longer receive physical cards and luggage tags. (Only digital) Except for Platinum for Life and Ultimate members.
    16:25
    I am afraid you are mistaken about how qualifying years work. To use your example, when an Explorer reaches 100XP (in your example 9 months), the 100XP is immediately deducted and the qualifying year is RESET. The Explorer is now a Silver member and has one year to either maintain Silver or upgrade to Gold. Once reaching Gold (for example after only another 5 months) the 180XP is immediately deducted and the qualifying year is RESET once again. So on, so forth. The qualifying year remains the same unless a higher status level is achieved.

    • @strictlyflying3247
      @strictlyflying3247  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey thanks for the feedback, that is greatly appreciated!
      Regarding the Ultimate status with 1800XPs I chose not to include that in the video because I think it’s unattainable for 99.99% of the viewers ☺️
      Regarding the physical cards and luggage tags I had no idea!
      Lastly, I figured your qualification year stays the same according to when you first sign up to the program? My qualification year has stayed the same (September) for as long as I can remember. I’ll do some research and maybe edit the video at a later time, however the principal remains somewhat the same… if your qualification year resets as soon as you move up the tier than that just makes it even harder to climb the tier ladder.
      Anyways, thanks again for clearing this up! Greatly appreciated 👍

    Great video! Question about checked luggage. Before even signing up for the Blue program, I think my economy ticket (KLM from ATL to AMS) included one checked luggage. I was thinking Silver would let you check another checked bag for free for a total of 2. Do I have that wrong?

    • @algita8
      @algita8 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If You are going light, when You have silver status, you have 1 extra checked baggage (so in explorer - you do not have any) but if you purchase one, so it means that you have 1 checked luggage +1 extra according to your status. Anyways, what I did actually, when i was explorer, they always tell you in advance that they do not have space, so you can check it for free. Normally, you can do that, just be clever.

    There's one error in this guide - once you reach a new tier you not only get your XP deducted but your qualification year also resets. Example: I started around April 2022, half a year later I had reached just over 100XP and was upgraded to Silver. But not only did 100XP get deducted from my XP counter, but my new qualification year now runs from Sept 30 2022 till Sept 30 2023. The Flying Blue dashboard says I need to earn 100XP to keep Silver or 180 to advance to Gold BEFORE Sept 30 2023 - not 31st of December 2023!

      Thank you for the clarification (i understand better the timeframe with your live experience)! However, i don't think that Andreas was wrong. He is mentioning Qualifying Year in his tutorial (not Calendar Year), so he might be correct and his tutorial match your experience.

    • @strictlyflying3247
      @strictlyflying3247  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are indeed some errors in this video and it has been pointed out before. It does seem that when you first go up a tier for the first time you automatically get a new qualification period and you are deducted all XPs for that tier however you should keep your qualification period after that. You should always have 365 days to maintain your current tier or advance to the next tier. Any surplus XPs are transferred to your next qualifying year.
      I hope this makes sense.

    • @TheKoiPartner
      @TheKoiPartner ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@strictlyflying3247 unfortunately not. Flying blue has changed this. If you reach 100xp the new qualification period starts right away.

    Once you get silver, you stay Silver?...or you can be in explorer status again if you dont make another 100xp?

    • @algita8
      @algita8 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, if You can not maintain 100 xp, meaning 10 trips short distance back and forth (like example Paris - Amsterdam direct Amsterdam - Paris) in one year, you are downgraded to Explorer again.
