Nice vid, loved it as always! When you said "for some reason the internet signal was astonishingly good up here" then panned out with he drone, I think that big silver pole was a cell tower. So that would make sense, you two would've been very close to it.
oh my goodness, the land there is absolutely stunning. those massive rocks up above took my breath away (and i'm from montana, i've seen a lot of amazing wilderness) and then that river gorge down below... i'm in love. the czech republic is now on my hope-for-the-future travel list

"Mushrooming" is such a Czech thing to do! We are always looking for the mushroom season, although you can go mushroom picking almost all year long. I hope you like your stay in our littel "hearth of Europe". Greetings from West Bohemia!
Hi Ben and Leah - Thank you so much for producing these "Amazing" (as Ben would say) travel videos. The filming and editing is just perfect so keep up the professional work. You have inspired me to learn how to edit the hundreds of hour of film that I took during my 12 trips back to Vietnam after the war. It took me 7 years to find kids that I had photographed during the war. Out of 11 kids I found 9 of them - so I have a story to tell. Leah have you ever been to Parkes, New South Wales? It's a 2 street town that has the largest Elvis Presley Festival in Australia - 15,000 Australian (many drunk) invade the town. I visited Parkes on a R&R break from the war in 1971 which is where I met the kindest people on Earth. It's where the largest radio telescope is located in the southern hemisphere. Travel safe and keep on trucking down the road.
I really enjoy your videos! The quality of the filmmaking is really so good. It is like watching a well-produced tv show - and you DON'T have a crew! (unless you're hiding 4 people!) 🙌🏼💞
Alaska picking up her bowl to help gather mushrooms was so sweet and I'm happy you learned your mushrooming skills because we have some terribly poisonous ones outside.Better to be safe, hope that there aren't too many more roadblocks along the way, Saty Safe!
I watch you probably 5 years now, you inspired me to build my own van. And now I find out you were possibly camping 20 km away from me. That was odd feeling I have to say watching this video.

Hey, a neighbour! Are you gonna make an introduction video of the van then? :-)
Hi there, congratulations for your successful mushroomharvest. I have a mushrommhavesting advice: please don´t cut the mushrooms on the buttom. Pull them out of the soil. The leftover cuttoff in the ground makes it easy for deseases and rot to enter the rizom of the mushroom. so it is sayed better pull then cut.
3:36 is an amanita muscaria (fly agaric). Properly prepared they're NOT poisonous but they're far from tasty. They are, however, (usually only mildly) hallucinogenic though! The original legend of Father Christmas is supposedly linked to Siberian shamans who, on the winter solstice (around the 21st of December), would visit with these red and white "presents" found under pine trees. That time of year the normal (tipi like) tent's entrance would likely be snowed over causing the shaman to have to climb in through the chimney. What's more, Reindeer are mad about these mushrooms and appear to 'trip' after eating them. Apparently, drinking the reindeer p*ss is a safe and easy way to consume them without the bellyache you'd get if unprepared. Either the shaman would consume them and dream up a solution to a problem you might be having, or you'd drink his muscaria p*ss and work your own problem out! Think I'll stick to the psilocybin variety my inner work tho ;D
I was born in the czech republic and lived there until I was 12. My family immigrated to the US and I live in Utah now. Yes I remember going to pick mushrooms with my parents as a kid. Best time to pick them is after it rains.
Mushrooms are interesting things, they have a mycelium (root network) under ground, the mushrooms you see above ground are the fruit, picking the mushroom fruit have no impact on the mycelium as a whole. If you don't pick it, it will mature within hours or days, spore, and start decomposing, so even if you are unsure of a mushroom, pick it and take it back to your van and identify correctly before you cook and eat it. You cannot get poisoned by handling a poisonous mushroom, you can even take a bite and taste it and spit it out as part of identification. Search on facebook for local mushroom foraging groups and post photos of the ones you are unsure about and the local schroom experts will come back to you quickly with an ID and if edible. The one at 2:50 that you left behind looks like a mature bolete, if so would have made a good meal. Enjoy!
So cool you two went to Wilde Klamm. We were there end of 2018 with my kitty @Sukiicat . Our famous circle leaf photo was taken on the very path you were walking on! Suki did not enjoy that waterfall that came out of nowhere 😂

@@KombiLife You should come to Prague now, it is the best time to see it. It won´t be the same once this whole covid thing is over and all the tourists are back. Now you can actually see the buildings and bridges:) Also a lot of locals are working from home. When I was in West Germany in the 60s and then again in the 70s, Coca-Cola was really expensive. Germans had their own brand Afri-Cola that was pretty good. Mostly, we drank Spezi which was a combination of cola and an orange citrus. I can't imagine what it was like behind the Iron Curtain.

Be carefull with collecting mushrooms! Due to the Tschernobyl accident there are still areas in Europe (e.g. parts of Bavaria in Germany and other countries) where mushrooms are still contaminated!
Hi! I think that the mushrooms you picked are called "Karl-Johan" in Swedish, looks a lot like it. All mushrooms in swedish forests with the "spungy" surface underneath are edible, though not all of them is good. But the Karl-Johan is a deli. Wonder if the "spunge-rule" is right all over the world? Thanks for a good show!

I'm really glad you like our country! Just a heads up, "Czech" is an adjective (or a noun if you mean a resident or the language), the correct way of saying the country's name is Czechia or the Czech Republic.
It looks like a lovely place. you look like you had a great time, and no bad repercussions. I just want to urge you to remember that herd mentality is a real thing. when you say stuff like "oh everybody's letting their guard down even we do" you are unintentionally creating the illusion of safety and increasing the risk for everybody who takes what you're saying seriously. The Effect is that lots of people are really letting their guard down as well . I know you're well intentioned but you're also pretty big role models on the internet and what you say counts a lot , especially now, some people's lives are literally dependent on it. Safe travels best wishes
Driving with only your parking lights on is not legally compliant. The requirement is to drive with dipped headlights on as you would do at night. Some statistics show that you lower your chances of having an accident by up to 25%. So, it's worth doing it in all countries. Even in bright sunlight. Headlight bulbs are affordable, accidents aren't. I recommend making it a habit to always drive with your headlights on, on dipped beam. As a professional driver that is my advice. I don't mean to be a patronising smart-ass. Just want you to be as safe as possible! :-)
Yes, I agree absolutely. I am a long-haul trucker here in the U.S. Years ago my company made it mandatory to always drive with headlights on for safety. I remember reading about a study done in either Finland, or one of the other Scandinavian countries, that showed a significant decrease in fatal car crashes when always-on headlights are used. Now, I always have the headlights on when driving. Newer automobiles have them as standard equipment. Safety First
Maybe I’m overly cautious but I would not collect and eat mushrooms from southern Germany, Czech Republic or anything more east than that. The Caesium rates are still high, especially in Mushrooms even nearly 60 years after Chernobyl. Mushrooms tend to have the highest level of these forest foods. Loads of people harvest and eat them but this is a thing I’d be super careful about.
@@PapousWebNode If you do some research, you'll see that mushrooms contain immense amounts of radiation because they take it directly out of the ground. And then look at the halftime for Plutonium and Caesium, which were emitted during Chernobyl. It is not recommended to eat mushrooms from the German alps and mountain ranges close to Czechia
Yeah, I have friends who are the other side of the political spectrum. They were claiming the flyover states (those states between the coasts) are being hit hard now with the second wave because they aren't paying attention to mask wearing and distancing. Totally untrue. Everyone here in the flyover states is taking it in stride. Fact is with any disease, take flu for instance, the coasts get hit first and it takes a while to work into the center rural parts of the country.
Drone footage was absolutely legend. I loved it so much. Thank you guys for the view.

I would really appreciate the info which is the song that starts at 19:33. Great video, as always. Greetings from Serbia. :)
You should boil in water wild mushrooms for at least 10-20 min first. This step is necessary because some mushrooms are bitter or accumulate toxins.
No.
Be carefull with collecting mushrooms! Due to the Tschernobyl accident there are still areas in Europe (e.g. parts of Bavaria in Germany and other countries) where mushrooms are still contaminated!
Love this so much, manifestation from me rn that one day I can travel around the world 🤷🏽♂️🙌🏽🙌🏽
Great mushroom score!! BTW - you should really cut off the spongey spore part of any Bolete's mushroom, because it can ruin the flavor.
You guys should look out with Janek and Honza , the Honest Guides
Nice secondary mission
Very satisfying watching you start that fire ;-)
I would love to meet you guys when i have a van of my own and travel the world just like you
Same rule here, but a few exceptions that either ruin the taste or make you sick.
Have a look on around Křivoklát
Nice vid Guys
Yummy mushroom stir fry.... coming right up.
Wear a mask, Keep the light on and stay Safe 🥰🚐👍🌟
What?! How are you're indicators on constantly during the skill share thing, damn
Vítejte v České republice!

If you guys go to Slovakia you have to try Tatratea, it's a hard liquor made with tea, it's the best tasting liquor I've ever head the pleasure to try 👍
Yeah and it's made by pro-Russia conspiracy nuts... So beware who you giving your money to
Sounds great - sounds like just my cup of tea 😊
@@jan8742 oh yeah? I didn't know that, sounds awful. Do you have any links/articles about that?
@@longobongo4402 I was considering of taking the 72% Tatra tea for the trip but finally I settled on something less shocking and more traditional. But I'm a big fan of Tatra tea, too. :-D
@@KombiLife Ben be careful, Tatra tea goes up to 72% of alcohol! :-D
Great idea, meeting with the locals. 😊
Definitely!
I'm really glad you like our country!
Just a heads up, "Czech" is an adjective (or a noun if you mean a resident or the language), the correct way of saying the country's name is Czechia or the Czech Republic.
Thanks for the clarification.
Will You visit Poland?
Lights are mandatory here also, Victor is so cool :) Greetings
Don't forget to serve the vodka with caramel bro! It's a lovely stuff! ;-)
3:36 Amanita muscaria: definitely not edible!
Cool
Driving with only your parking lights on is not legally compliant. The requirement is to drive with dipped headlights on as you would do at night. Some statistics show that you lower your chances of having an accident by up to 25%. So, it's worth doing it in all countries. Even in bright sunlight. Headlight bulbs are affordable, accidents aren't. I recommend making it a habit to always drive with your headlights on, on dipped beam. As a professional driver that is my advice. I don't mean to be a patronising smart-ass. Just want you to be as safe as possible! :-)
thank you for sharing your experience, and being nice about it 😁
thats why daytime running lights were created. i dont agree that keeping your lights on reduces chances of accident, but hey to each his own.
Safety First
@@0HARE Indeed. Headlights on are a very low cost acquisition of significant extra safety.
You guys should come to eastern Canada sometime! The Maratimes would love to have you guys
60 yrs after Chernobyl?
@@PapousWebNode If you do some research, you'll see that mushrooms contain immense amounts of radiation because they take it directly out of the ground. And then look at the halftime for Plutonium and Caesium, which were emitted during Chernobyl. It is not recommended to eat mushrooms from the German alps and mountain ranges close to Czechia
Where did you get your traction mats???????
Will you come to Hungary?
There’s a second wave?
any surfer will tell you that waves come in sets and a set usually contains 4 waves - hopefully that has nothing to do with our future.
Kombi Life interesting, the Spanish flu had four waves over two years before it subsided!
Fact is with any disease, take flu for instance, the coasts get hit first and it takes a while to work into the center rural parts of the country.
go to brno and zlinn :) beautifull places
