I really like that "putting your hand to the back pocket / waist to shorten the distance." I incorporate a lot of West Coast into my country two step dancing. When dancing on a crowded floor, with nobody following floor etiquette, shortening the distance is a must.

Patterns like this are definitely interchangeable for two step and wcs

    (1) Right-side pass variation - Seems to be a one-handed hustle whip; if one thinks of it as a hustle whip, I think that it would be mentally easier.
    (2) Continuos whip - I've always liked it, first as a follower, then as a leader - and I've never had a follower who had a problem with it if properly led.
    (3) Telemark - Familar with ballroom telemark, but never did it in wcs - I love the idea of doing so. It looks cool and I bet that it feels so as well.
    (4) Snap turn - Not familiar with this term/move, but I'm guessing that I've been led through it at some point without thinking about it.
    (5) Quick tunnel - I've done this in two-step, but not in wcs. With wcs timing, it actually looks easier than in two-step. Also, Brian B's explanation is GREAT!

That is a great way to think of the right side pass! Along with all these moves there are way more on our site www.westcoastswingonline.com

I absolutely love how he holds himself. I dont know what it's called, but he keeps his posture straight. So many men dance leaning this way and that and don't keep a 'centre' around which they dance. As a viewer, watching people dance with poor dance posture/ form is confusing and unsightly, even, whereas his posture is a visual delight and adds excitement.

Posture is more important than a lot of people think. Brian definitely has good posture.

Never seen the last pattern, but that's very cool. I've led the snap turn before but usually as a means to get I have the follower out of hammerlock.

Actually I was taught on my very first lesson right side pass with hand down and left with hand up, but without this extra rotation. It is still not very comfortable for follows, as steps became smth like cross-side-cross for 3 and 4, so they became confused). I do lead the second one a lot))) loop looks very cool, I need to try it!

Her brief assessment of the use of word "shovel" made me laugh so hard. 😂❤

I used your right side pass for my class. Very good Trainingspartnerin for whip leading technique.

It is definitely a good training move for the whip! We used it in a mixed beginner, intermediate class and it helped a lot.

You feel so lost in the right side pass 👍 but exactly how our teachers got us into the whip 😊

#1 I've also heard this one called a "torque turn". Seen this taught in beginner classes as a build-up to the whip a couple of times.
#2 This is what happens when I try to lead a circular movement but the follower is focussed on the slot. 😂
#3 Yup I've had the telemark taught to me several times in both workshops and weekly classes.
#4 This one was new to me.
#5 I learned this or something very similar once in a special workshop "boogie woogie moves you can incorporate into WCS". 😅

    1) right side pass, I have to admit I love this pattern, even as simple as it is. My gf is a ballroom instructor, and she seriously dislikes when I lead her in this (her comments echo Megan's).
2)continuous whip, dance it, but only selectively, because it gets messy fast.
    3)nope, but I will now :)
4)snap turn, didn't know that's what its called, but yes.
5)definitely adding this to my list

Your right side pass here is something I saw on a Ben Morris instructional DVD. He called it the Fake Whip... LOL

      A one-handed hustle whip, no?

Haha that is what it feels like

  • @GFSwinger1693

My biggest issue with the continuous whip is some of the followers try and tripple. I try and thwart that by acceleration into a pause as if hitting an upbeat but it doesn't always work.

    • @WestCoastSwingOnline
      @WestCoastSwingOnline  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

You may be giving them to much room in the connection and they feel like you are letting them out to anchor.
