A child, prodigy and musical genius. Angelina at 7:years old is unbelievable. She is an old soul. The jazz infused DNA in her veins just runs so rampantly through her song singing. Her unbelievable sense of timing, phrasing and musical composition with her nuances throughout the song using her absolutely fabulous rasp and unbelievable vibrato just grabs at your heartstrings and coming from a 7-year-old. I can imagine it helped her immensely having her grandmother Mery listen to all the fabulous Jazz greats when she was just a baby like Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra and her great modern mentors like Whitney Houston, Norah Jones, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and the great Elvis Presley. This is who Angelina is, a combination of all these great artists into her unique voice and like someone else had mentioned, Angelina could sing a phone book and make it sound fabulous. She takes covers and recovers them and makes them all fresh but keeping to the original melody but still makes it het very own. I'm so happy that you are on this wonderful Journey. The 1st song on NGT, Gloomy Sunday, she was 7 yo, but she turned 8 for the last 3 performances. Also for the I Put A Spell On You, she had just turned 9, not 13. I know it's hard to keep all the ages right, but I thought you might like to know the correct ages. She sings this song 2 years later at 10 with the famous KORK Orchestra in a completely different style that is smooth as butter & ethereal, totally different from this raspy version. Did you notice after the second "Your Daddy's rich" she quietly mouthed: "Don't you say no", which was Louis Armstrong's line from his duet of this song with Ella Fitzgerald. She is a musical genius, no doubt.
I maybe wrong or have the wrong part, but when she seems to be mouthing words when the camera cuts back, I think she is using a breathing technique she used back then. There is an interview at a young age where she teaches the host to sing. This looks very similar to that. To me at least, she seems to be taking in a deep breath. Everyone is right, this little 7yr old has so much expression in her voice, there are no words. I think you should react to it, now that you have a reference from when she was 8. The difference is unfathomable. Her development and trajectory at the time was completely off the scale. In the other performance she was accompanied by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK), an internationally highly acclaimed orchestra themselves. This is one of my all-time favorites of Angelina's videos. Utter perfection in a dreamy, delicate, and yet thrilling interpretation with that beautiful orchestra. Hard to say which Angelina Summertime is best!
Great job with your version of "Summertime". We angels feel it is important to be as accurate as we can be with the facts about Angelina's music. She turned 8 before her second performances on Norway's Got Talent, and "Summertime" was her final performance. For her 2nd performance, she sings "I'm a Fool to Want You", co-written by Frank Sinatra in 1951 and Billie Holiday had her last hit with it in 1958. Too many singers passed their audition so the 2nd round was the Judge's Cut round, where singers had to sing a cappella, unless they also played an instrument.
