This was such a weird event for me right from the start that I'm literally left speechless. I know that the pandemic made everything worse, but why was this happening if it clearly wasn't ready to happen. Was the game in such a dire need of some form of event that they really couldn't have waited a couple of more months? I really dont think so... Shadow Isles was such a cool place in the world before Viego... Gosh, what a missed oprotunity. Hopefully the next event ends up being better :)
riot is just making commercial events and champs at this point starting from seraphine that was completely out of place to this whole event that give us so many cool skins some edgy characters and new champs but weak lore .
I appreciate all the work the artists did, but this should have been bigger and better, Riot, someone should have managed this professionally and made sure it was complete and would satisfy the fans expectations. We know they have the money, they barely do anything to the game beside make new skins, why do they always minimize and fire people and go on budget and cut everything?
probably because they want to start a corporate structure thing where they're able to pump out 1 big event a year or something, starting from fates. this year it's ruination. gotta meet them KPIs and deadlines. even if they give a half hearted result. but yeah, i guess their (Riot's) learnings from this are probably that they need more efficiency structures and stuff. not necessarily more firepower (staffing), just work the current staff harder and guilt them into thinking that riot gives them a good work life balance :)
I think part of that was the selection of champs, and it feeling a bit too short I mean PYKE??? I would have enjoyed it more if there was a handle city chapter where they recruited sentinel Lulu while fighting vex
@@pablo1006pr well, all bad examples because none of them could fit into the story, voli is a god that is self centered, Aurelian is still imprisoned etc. But yeah they could’ve done much better
It's not horrible. Besides, now hopefully they can learn for future events. The story is there, we know what's going on and it's just one cinematic that doesn't follow everything quite right
I was so confused when the visual novel and cinematic were different. It feels non-canon because of how much is missing but I know this is all leading up to the Ruined King game where we'll probably see even better fights
LMAO like wtf was the point of that fcking event.. recruiting people that wont even appear in the cinematic. SHIT EVEN VEX,HECARIM, KALISTA AND THRESH ARENT THERE. but hey lets put pantheon in there.
i honestly really dig the “my wife is dead, imma destroy the world” motivation so much and to see viego not even putting a fight, leaving the door literally open, froze? how? and the ending where haha its an avenger age of ultron ending everybody hug yay we kill the bad guy in 2 seconds with some strings and some gun. fuck they did viego dirty, they did the whole shadow isle dirty

In addition he's like a god damn Lich king something I love so much as a concept. At this point I just want to forget that all of this even happened and just pretend that Viego in and beyond the game is still just looking for pieces of Isolde's soul while planning the ruination.
justifying it its pretty idiotic from necrit imo... if you dont have the resources for the event then you shouldnt do it and riot deff had enough resources lets not kid ourselves its where they put all the focus thats wrong... I understand that covid also makes things more complicated but they just have to organise themselves better and take more time to work on things witch they did have ... There is no excuse for this bullshit except that they didnt have their priorities on it instead they made the skins sold them by lying to their community and cashing on it... People here lore event and their fav champ is getting a lore skin they buy them and they are barely canon at all and make no sense they literally scammed their community and they dont give a shit there is no excuse at all for this and this event make me make a choice to never read a league story ever again cause the lore doesent matter at all and its so fabricated and feels fake

They defeated Viego so easily like slapping a mosquito that's sucking your arm. They did not even show the SI champs, the other sentinels, and new yordle mage. I wish I could say the whole cinematic is bad, but what makes me stop from is the quality of the animation :(
Well if what is said is true - it's just budget reasons. Spending to much on one cinematic... IF they did it - it probably would turn to a freaking regular episode lenght around 11-22 minutes - and would consume hella lot of money. For one event... Idk Probably didn't seem worth it
@@SilverWarrior95 yep, but much more costly (effects and renders are much better, plus computer 2d is cheaper nowadays.) And considering the scope... For the same level of cinematography as in yone/yas trailer... It probably actually would require full 18-22 minutes episode... Which is a lot for a trailer. But then again, it's a biggest lore event in the runterra universe
This whole event is bad. This event just makes Viego seem useless and not powerful compared to his release/ruination trailer where he seemed like he was going to be the end of Runeterra. Instead we got some rushed event made by people who aren't event part of the lore team.
I love how Riot cares so much about the lore. That's why characters like Yorick and Maoki who's life purpose is to get revenge on Viego just sat there and got little or no mention. Also love how the 2 ex-generals Kallista and Hecarim had no mention of screen time. Absolute genius work by Riot
In the comic, after Isolde dies, there's a part where Viego is holding a map of the Blessed Isles and he says something like "Finally, I have found it!". Bitch please, Kalista found it, not you. Not only they didn't put Kalista but also removed her agency in the lore. Hecarim, Karthus, Ledros, Maokai... so many cool characters that would be relevant in this event get thrown aside just to sell skins
"having all sentinels in the cinematic would be too costly" yeah, this is supposed to be the biggest lore even we've ever had, they are a multibillion dollar company, and yet, it is inferior to spirit blossom in every single way im sorry but i can't help thinking you're trying too hard to find something good in this whole fiasco, they didnt care about the characters, yorick and the maiden werent present because they were a last minute addition because Jared had to fight for it, FIGHT FOR YORICK TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RUINED KING EVENT, and im pretty sure this cinematic wasnt made by the same people. and how convenient the only sentinel skins we see here are the two legendaries. Where was hecarim during the comic and VN? where was Kalista? Ledros? Karthus? MAOKAI? are they not relevant to the ruination? do you TRULY believe that crap?
I mean, if I had been inducted into the Sentinels by Senna through a specially made and personalised puzzle box, I might feel like the edges of this event were a little less harsh as well... But I didn't, so I think it was bad. Riot's excuses about it being hard to work during a pandemic and it's so expensive to make cinematics... Fall on deaf ears. The way they farmed out the responsibilities on this project alone is enough to make me raise an eyebrow. This was done so poorly and people who are invested in the lore are justifiably upset.
Ledros, Karthus and Kalista are not relevant to the ruination. Ledros and Kalista have their own story. Karthus is just a guy that happily died to the mist. Maokai is debatable, even tho I don't think he is relevant to the ruination, the ruination is relevant for his story and that's all. On the other hand, Hecarim and Yorick are really a missed oportunity.
@@raedbaffoun5819 Nah, he can't go around calling himself self proclaimed Lorewalker, League of Legends Lore Master? and then be like, nah its fine lol but anyways
Akshan really came in, said: "Yo look at this dope ass weapon" then made every single death that is coming in the future pointless. Also the Ruined King really just got 2 shot after being hyped for years. Great story Riot, way to go fuck up one of the biggest events in league history.
"2 shot" While he dominated them in the beginning and then sent Pantheon to prevent the others from following up, the loss of Isolde is something that made him heartbroken as it took him a millennia to get her back. So it enough to be distracting, and while he wasn't enraged yet (you can hear he is at the end) and just confused, they used the chance to banish him, the important point being that Gwen immediately restrained both of his arms opposed to only one like in the beginning, and it seemed like he lost some of his strength as Senna took in the Black Mist that his closing chest omitted. I don't know how else you think the Sentinels were supposed to fight him, he bested Pantheon and corrupted him, so some Sentinels wouldn't have stood a good chance, at least without the right circumstances, which were provided here.
@@theunk0wndead663 Well it's really hard to believe that he fought off pantheon and corrupted him, when at the begging of the cinematic they basically just tickle him with a few shots making him kneel down and almost cought him right then and there if he didn't just magic his sword around and "stab" Gwen... It feels more like he just got lucky with Gwen and not that he's actually that powerful that he needs to be incredibly weakened before he gets sealed...
It's just like how "half the community" has not…and will not…accept the "New" universe and its lore. Many of us have not forgotten that we are _summoners,_ a part of the living breathing world of Runeterra. In actuality, it is far more than half. With every new addition to the lore that is done hastily, Riot further removes lore-fans from their base.
@@bigs42069 tbf I did like the removal of the institute of war in favor of a more living universe, I liked the Targon changes with Aurelion Sol, the changes Camille brings into the Piltover lore, heck even the Demacia changes with Kayle, Morgana and Sylas. Meanwhile some others....I couldn't care less about the Darkins ever since the Aatrox rework and backstory changes, the furries failed to pique my interest and this current event is the definition of a failure imo. Such a big event centered around Death, you'd expect Kindred to spearhead it, maybe a mention that the order Lucian and Senna hail from worships them or have weapons blessed by lamb, nope, no Yorick or Karthus either and the cherry on top : The new Thresh look, if they make it canon, I'm dropping the lore. Now I'm even afraid of what they'll do with Xerath/Azir and the watchers in Freljord...
My favourite part of the event was when yorick gave away his life waters saying its all that was left, meaning riot clearly forgot about the treant walking around like a tanker full of the stuff on the shadow isles
Ironically the small impact that Yorick had in the visual novel was made with a tiny retcon. Originally the blessed water that Yorick has is really the only piece left, period. But in the client novel they explain that Yorick just happened to go to the place where Viego tried resurrect Isolde and for some reason he decided to save all the blessed water there. This never happened in the old story and does not really make sense in the big picture. But this now allows Yorick to have lots of blessed water waiting for our daring heroes. Totally worth to carry all that stuff around over 1000 years i guess :D Seems Necrit also missed this tiny wording in the novel since he explains the water thing with maiden being controlled by Gwen so Yorick would not need the water. But that is not really the best explanation either. Since there is no way that tiny bottle has enough for like 10 people. And Yorick would still need it to survive on the isles even without maiden. But nonetheless this whole event has fucked up so much lore that this is kinda inferior information, but still decided to point it out
@@iisakkihaapalehto5574 Dude... the visual novel explicitly tells that he gives a droplet of water to each sentinel. He gave away so little cause that he could resist the mist cause 1: he still has some water and 2: the visual novel says that Gwen took the Maiden away. And yes, that vial has the water that Viego tried to ressurect Isolde a millenia ago, cause Yorick is alive for more than a thousand years. He was around when it was still the Blessed Isles, he took the water on the Ruination, and not that he has a lot of it right now cause he just found it.
My favourite part was when Yorick camr to save the team, but Hecarim and his army were summoned by Viego.. The part where Tresh killed Viego and Kalista faced Hecarim and the Iron Order was cool too !
the whole budget excuse doesn't cut it though... we have seen Riot put more into cinematics before, plus this is the biggest event in League History, which is canonical and has been planned for multiple years... they could've and should've increased their budget... especially considering they released 10+ skins for this event for champions they knew would sell well (not to mention that Riot as a company implemented the event in WR, LOR, and even Val but Val can be excused for just being a crossover).
exactly. look at Awaken, they have 9 champs there shot at 3 different locations and the art looks really realistic so it's probably a lot more expensive to animate.
My question would be how would this affect gameplay? When Senna was released Lucian got some new voice lines but how would viego's banishement affect league gameplay? is he going to get...deleted?
@@emrebahakaba9853 When gangplank "died" during burning tides it only meant he came back, and made his old classic skin captain gangplank, could that be the outcome of viego
This event felt incredibly rushed and poorly handled when all is said and done. Felt like more of a cash grab for new skins and a new "Hero" I couldn't care less about. Developing lore and building characters to be more then just "One Note" or "Jokes" are key components to great story telling but that was nonexistent throughout this event. Now that the story is already over before it even began, what do I as a reader, have to keep me interested in? If I was a brand new consumer of this story who didn't know the characters, their backstories, or even the world I was about to plunge into, would I be compelled to keep reading after this fiasco to find out more? I'd consider it a waste of time and chalk it up to being as well written as the last Star Wars trash fire and never consider picking it up again and outright mocking it if it ever entered normal conversation. Honestly they should have finished the "Ruined King" game they are working on where you control the hero's and can swap around your team comp to discover cool tidbits about both characters and lore while exploring a unique world, securing better items in the process to encourage such exploration. This would allow them more time so they could have set up and told a far better story that would have had way more of an impact when it finally reached its conclusion. They could have still done a LOL event but instead of rushing out a full novel they should have made a comic book instead. I wanted Viego to be the next proverbial "Lich King" as both a menacing and powerful figure coupled with an interesting backstory I could delve into. I would have loved to have seen the characters and how they interacted with each other, just the story alone of how MF (A Captain) and Pyke (A wraith hellbent on murdering all Captains) joined forces, let alone met and interacted with the others we saw from the cinematic being Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, and Ahri. That would have made one hell of a story and event in and of itself, no need to send in the Clown yet and start the main quest!
Please use paragraphs D: But I agree; I hated how the characters had no depth and were literally just a one note thing. I also disliked how Senna and Lucian had 0 chemistry even though they were supposed to be together. Yet they spent most of the story arc arguing over details rather than seeing things through a common lens. I don't expect them to always agree, no couple does that, but Lucian was literally hurr durr at every opportunity which just didn't work out since they actually tried to give Senna some depth. Another thing about Lucian which I hated was it really just ended up coming across as needlessly chauvinistic, which is ironic since Pride month just ended, and it would be cool to have male leads that actually don't act overly controlling around women. Like no matter how I tried to view it, I couldn't understand why Senna would be with Lucian: he was just toxic through and through. He never supported her or tried to see things her way, and I feel Senna only got her way because she was actually written as a strong female lead with a sense of personal agency. I also disliked how they handled Viego. I don't mind Viego receiving a bittersweet ending; I would have preferred him to be more akin to an antihero, but Viego had no depth, which just goes back to the overall writing being incredibly shallow. I began to skip everything about in-game VN after 3 areas unlocked, because it was really just a lot of repetition of the same story with no actual layer added to it, i.e. Senna, Lucian and Gwen go to X area, find out that it's messed up by the Black Mist, solve the problem, find powerful ally, moves on to the next area. I think the reason why The Spirit Blossom event was actually so successful was because Yone and Yasuo were *not* one note characters, and their personal conflict was well developed and there was a lot of background given as to how Yone became the way he is, and how he and Yasuo ended up the way they did. We just got to learn more about two characters we actually didn't know a lot about, whereas in this event, we learned nothing new, because their character motivations are never fully explained nor explored in detail. I understand that the way the event is written is much easier to manage given the amount of characters introduced in the event, but then why make so many characters? I would rather have half of the characters we see in the event but the characters actually given depth. It would be nice to have an actually meaningful narrative rather than something that really comes across as a shitty fanfic. I mean, this is supposed to be the official lore of how Viego met his downfall, and it just leaves a sour taste in the mouth. It's possible to have a character both a villain and antihero, I think Aizen from Bleach is a great example of that, in that he ultimately did evil things and was clearly evil, yet had a noble or personally significant goal. I'd rather have a return of the Spirit Blossom event than this, especially since I never got to experience the VN part.
Even with corona going on this event was pretty disappointing overall and it's such a shame because the story was actually really interesting and this whole thing could have been so much better!

If you're not going to actually criticize it, at the very least don't say it's fine, because it is not, we need to hold Riot to a higher standard at least in this aspect.
Couldn't say better. Everything about this event is just bad and cannot fit to the standarts that Riot set themselves! It feels cringy how Necrit trying his best to defend Riot no matter what. One thing that I see almost no one mentioning is how the Hallowed Mist was seemingly being set up as a counter to the Black Mist being at equal strength or maybe even able to cleanse anything touched by the Black Mist but they literally didn't do anything with it after Gwen came out nor try to explain what it exactly does.

I won't be supriced if i know that riot did not had on time the script for the animation team until was to late, so many champs on a cinematic is not that hard but the lack of time to actually do the darn thing is the problem, gwen lack of details, not even a wound when she is stabbed, the lack of dialog, the lack of actual mist around viego that is "constantly pouring out of his chest" all of it screams lack of time and rushed work
They have 3 games where they can get their ROI from they just don't want to do so. 4 games if count Ruined King game and used the cinematic as promotion
Personally, I would've made the event last most of the year and have other events happen side by side. Release each region every three or four patches, delve into the story in more detail. You would've been able to explain why characters decided to join the Sentinels or become Ruined more effectively. Releasing the skins associated with the region and people could've gotten excited with theorizing who was next to become a Sentinel or Ruined. Build up Viego as an intimidating villain and presence. Could've released Vex towards the end too. But end of the day, Riot do what Riot do. Too bad about the virus ruining their planning and communication.
I have been saying this to my husband for weeks. This even should have been the culmination of something huge. This should have been ages in the making, not a few weeks with janky progression through a story where the only things that really got ruined are the champs canon lore...
@@OPGardevoir honestly. Covid is such a crutch at this point. we live in an era of instant mass communication. I get working from home CAN be hard, writing for a visual novel isnt something that should really be affected that much by that. I could understand art direction being affect. I can see animation being affected. But writing? Dude just like use google docs or something so everyone can see it in real time.
I wouldn't call covid an excuse or crutch overall, because it does have plenty of affects in the industry. However, it seems like riot didn't care to do this right, knowing that people would blame anything wrong on the virus. As previous commenter said, it's not like this should effect a storyboard, or writing in general. I doubt they'd be allowed to use Google docs in case it got leaked (viewable by public setting or whatever), but that doesn't change that communication is the least effected thing of quarantine. Tldr; covid is a crutch when riot shoots their own foot to make the crutch sound legitimate.
My hope is that during the Void invasion, when all hope is lost, our heroes have no choice but to turn to the Ruined King to spread his undying armies across the world again to combat the Void. Everyone loves a good redemption arc.
Naw I think Varus would make much more sense, he has a history with the void and I think deserves redemption (esp after the new voice overs). I think Valmar and Kai can convince him to fight the void. I mean his whole thing is vengeance against those who wronged him and the entity that caused the most of his suffering is the void.
Yeah exactly. Because at the end of the day Viego wasn't trying to destroy the world. He was just trying to revive his dead wife. Viego seems like the best redeemable option
the "haha moment" at the end with Vayne and Akshan... that should have been Graves becuase he was hitting on her in the VN too, like they didnt even do that right...
that isn't how animation pipelines work, if employees are sick or unable to come to the studio due to lockdown (and other disruptions, some areas lost power earlier this year due to weather) they aren't going to have all the tech or files needed to complete an animation - it's a matter of time constraints and available personnel not just throwing money at a problem
And Riot is not a standalone company anymore. If the placeholder don't release enough budget to deal with the unforeseen issues, there's not much Riot can do.
I have a theory, that when Senna came out from Thresh’s lantern, he purposely released her. When she absorbs the black mist, that’s a clear indication she isn’t your regular mortal sentinel with a gun.
This event seriously disappoints me. They basically through out Yorick's whole purpose, and defiled Thresh with a new cannon skin that is quite honestly trash compared to his old default skin. I would have loved to see a story that involved more of Yorick and Maokai and did a better job at setting up Thresh as the next ruler of the Shadow Isles. And as a former Thresh main, I'd have loved an Unbound Thresh skin that didn't make him look like a pretty boy.
The first line in the Maokai's lore (on the official website) is literally 'Maokai is a rageful, towering treant who fights the unnatural horrors of the Shadow Isles'. And we didn't see him fight anything once. Same with Yorick. It is so unfair, because most of the shadow isles champions are now stuck with their lore, and I have no idea how Riot is going to fix this.
@@buildawall5803 most likely the demacia event with the mage rebellion would happen first before mordekaisers return to the mortal realm which Leblanc has been preparing for
I was hoping at the end, Senna would talk to Lucian, and it would pan back to the shadow isles to an unbound Thresh miming Senna's words, revealing that Senna was an unintentional pawn of Thresh. It would explain the little mist drain thing with Veigo.
Yeah this is great! They would just have to remove the part where kuxianbmakes a deal with him and make it so he discovered the absolved on his own. (Which makes more sense anyways) so that way thresh could reveal that he wanted viego dead all along anyways. Perfect way to set up future stories and justify the mess that is unbound Thresh
The cinematic was honestly amazing. My favorite part was when Thresh showed up and explained that he was puppeteering Viego all along to meet his own personal goals and that even though the ruination is over that the harrowing will still continue.
Don’t really like you excusing their laziness as much as possible , the event and the cinematic is subpar especially when compared to last year’s Spirit Blossom which was not as important lore wise but felt way more polished and thought out.
Riot usually collaborate with blur studios, they make hollywood movies as well such as deadpool and love death robots, it definitely is not too hard for them XD, but for this one i think it’s not blur studios since the style is not realistic enough
@@tostupidforname I agree with that, though Riot tried to be ambicious with what they were showing through the years. So much build-up, character stories and hype to be left with dissapointing ending. Now I just hope they won't massacre Noxus/Black Rose storyline. @@tostupidforname That is irrelevant as this event ended way too quickly and could have lasted more, no one would give a fuck about it lasting like 3 more motnhs.
You're kidding right? He's had possibly the single most amount of build up for any champion. He's been referenced by an item in the shop for years, referenced by other champions lore and voice lines... Viego was probably the single most anticipated champion ever.
They should've delayed the event. With the Ruined King game being delayed, they had time to polish the story. But now it's just a letdown... After so much build up, the story revolved more so around others but Viego, people were left out on parts of the story cuz of different and contradicting sources and we were left with more questions than answers. It's quite sad
Given that the continuity is somewhat lost and this is a far-away take, most likely that one was a mistake. The team didn't notice that they had left that detail on the model when finishing the cinematic.
What coulda saved the cinematic at the end: Vex: "To challenge them, is to court death..." Mordekaiser: *Turns around and faces the camera with a little glare*
@@Zolaalathaia Because Riot has this strange trend with rather than taking cool story ideas and expanding on them, they need to replace it with something else someone thought up with. It all has to be new and fresh, never built upon. They did it with Mord, they did it with Xerath, they did it with Aatrox, and they'll keep doing it. Building upon lore seems less and less to be what Riot is interested in, and more and more like they just want to make new lore as if League was a long running TV show and not a larger setting. Which seems to be more and more a trend in general when it comes to lore writing in general, not just Riot. "Forward.. Forward..." - Nautilus, Riot lore spokesperson.
@@Zolaalathaia they doubled down on his old lore ties to Noxus since he’s less magic now and more death and bloodshed, typical run in and kill you type, like most in the Noxian pool. They wanted to give him his “own thing” to make him more grand while ultimately making him more drab in removing him entirely from his aesthetic roots.. It makes sense that he paved the way for what Noxus is, but since he’s now classified as a Noxian champ, it’s a bit of a letdown he has absolutely no relation to anything Shadow Isles and the making him completely separated from the mysterious dark magic region he used to be the boogeyman of.
Not lack of budget - but more like they considered not worth it to put so much resoureces into one event cinematic... Can't say if it's a good choice. Or to be fair - i'm far from leads mentality - so whatver i would prefer - doesn't mean that i would be right. Perhaps event truly wasn't worth so much investment in their eyes
@@zenixvampirchik652 welp... They litterarely put as much of an effort as a small youtube channel doing a fanfic animation while riot is a billion dollars company
@@zenixvampirchik652 bruh they literally did a 10 minute cinematic which beautifully mended 2d and 3d animation together and then another absolutely stunning 2 minute cinematic for the Spirit Blossom event (a event which had essentially no bearing on the lore) but couldn't put the effort into the cinematic about the "biggest" event they had to date (lore wise, the event though sucked)
I really want to see riot making Syndra big villain to Runterra. She is mad, crazy and there seems to be no limit to her power so I really hope to see some thing like that. She kinda reminds me of Dark Phoenix and Scarlet Witch so if Riot could take inspiration from their story and make it like Syndra is free and goes mad vs. Karma and the rest of Ionia, that would be really nice
And then they will have wukong hit her with his staff and she falls and scream like in a tom and jerry cartoon and not have her do anything or hurt anyone bec they want to make more 20 champs there
Syndra has the opportunity of being a sick ass villain and make Riot a ton of money by selling big booba anime skins at the same time, so it's a win win. I just doubt they could pull a good lore event after what happened with this one.
So many good champions' lore thrown to the rubbish bin in this event... The finale was ok, but they forgot vex and many others. This event was completely disappointing.
I think the reason vex didn't appear on the cinematic is because she hasn't been properly revealed, so all the people that hadn't seen the visual novel would be really confused
They changed main character for this lore 3 times lol, first it was yorick then miss fortune and suddenly it’s senna and lucian like wtff just stick with one
@@ultimoengin7826 The thing is, Riot has released some champs (Akshan and Vex soon) that relate, or at least should relate to the event. Even in a year's time they are going to become irrelevant...

To be honest this event doesn't even hold a candle to Bligewater Event from 2015. New gamemode with totally game changer stuff( special minions mercenaries, TONS of new items with great mechanics, gankplank was considered dead for a while and LOCKED OUT of the game....special aram, fantastic GP Announcer that i still miss....fk me THAT was the best event lol ever had and ever will.
For such a huge event, the Ruined King, the villain that has been in the game since the beggining of league it's very anti-climactic. This should have been a 10 to 20 minute cinematic having an emotional battle featuring if not all of the characters at least most of them, especially Yorick. I think riot made a big mistake ending one of the most imporatnt events in such a lazy way. You can argue that they had a time limit or it would cost a lot of money, but Riot is a multi million company this is just lazy and dissapointing.
@@n0adezeiic206 the visual novel could be way better yes, but if the community say that was all garbage, they may as well never do this again. Or make something worse trying to listen to everyone. I swear, if they mess up the WATCHERS ARC, I'm just be done with LOL including LOR, for good. That is, if we even will get that far since that event is and will, or would be even bigger than this one. Then there's also the Void that might return or whatever.
The only reason I could see why Viego caressed Senna's face is because there is still a piece of Isolde inside Senna, an action more of saying that "Finally, I will be reunited with you once again." to Isolde than a flirtatious intention to Senna herself.
@@monhbatonon6333 design wise you can say that but lore wise he didn't have a hint of that "fuckboy" attitude. I think you have the same sentiment with TB Skyen. Heck, the whole reason for the Ruination is because all he wanted to do is to be with Isolde. He is more of a very toxic lover than the fuckboy that you pertaining with.
im not happy with how veigo was handled at all. i never really liked him past the release but i know on his teaser and when he was hinted at, im sure others like me were exremely hyped that THEE ruined king was going to be a part of the lore. the shadow isles were one of the most interesting places in the lore for me, and the fact the man behind the item was joining was huge for me. though he never felt like a king once during this, and i still dont see why he HAD to be a bad guy and treated JUST as a bad guy. he was crazy and over obsessive but even his wife (no way i can type her name) never seemed to even give a shred of understanding or sympathy to him. or even try to reason. though i never really followed alot of this lore because i was extremely put off about it, especcially because of lucian and how back and forth of a character he seemed. hes like always moody and switching from stupidly pessimistic to cocky in the client... story thing. i didnt want to go through it all so its possible that it was all explained, but i would rather an ending where he was recovered from "ruin" and possibly used as a plot point against characters like mordekieser in the future. i also dont understand why the sentinals were neccisary at all either because with how they made the ruination spread around the world, it made it really seem like A the world was ending and TONS and TONS of devesation happened so i guess the world is just going to be affected for ever? or B veigo would have encountered another champion which i dont know for sure but i would assume theres tons of champions that would absolutely fuck him up. especcially since past his army, even in cutscenes he seems extremely weak. i ALSO hate how thresh just gets away with all this? and is barely a part of any of this even though hes the main cause. i feel like thresh should have swapped to the main bad guy and veigo should have experienced clarity whilst learning about all the betrayal. I really didnt like this one, as much as id like to and the only champion i feel like i like more after all this is gwen and senna. every other champion exluding vayne kind of just seemed stupid here to me.
The cinematic really made it feel like the sentinels were just physically abusing someone with _serious_ PTSD. Honestly I think the stupidest thing from a lore perspective is tying the Black Mist up with a "love" story line. The Black Mist fits more with a brutal dictator's story, such as Mordekaiser, not some misguided Romeo-esque king of an exotic land who just wants his girl back.
Viego literally decided to destroy the entire world just to revive his wife who didn't even WANT to be resurrected. The ending could've been better, but how is Viego anything but a villain in this story?
@Revenger "Mordekaiser's weakness is teenage girl with mommy issue" who on earth are you talking about? His primary rival is the millenniae-old Emelia LeBlanc.
@@gazelle_diamond9768 So a soldier returning from a war with PTSD and extreme amnesia is "evil" if they commit a crime under psychological duress? Viego very obviously loved Isolde and it even lets us know that _he has no memory of her stabbing him._ All he knows is she was there alive, sick, then she died, and now she's broken into pieces; now he has a chance to bring her back and these "random people" (sentinels of light) are trying to stop him from doing it.
@@kooldudematt1 Are you seriously comparing a person who was willing to destroy the entire world to a soldier with PTSD? And yes, if a soldier with PTSD did this shit, they would be considered evil, because - surprise - committing mass murder isn't suddenly okay just because you're mentally ill. Viego obviously has some mental problems, but that doesn't excuse his actions. And even before he died he had a ridiculous nad unhealthy obsession with Isolde, as you can see when he wiped out the entire Blessed Isles because they wouldn't let him revive her.
@@kimmmmm871 I feel like the creatives needed more time. Riot could give them more time to polish their biggest lore event ever but they wanted the money now. None of the characters got satisfying emotional arcs. Gwen didn't even say a word in the cinematic...
When Gwen was able to hide senna in the hallowed mist, and senna realized that she still had a piece of Isolde inside her, I thought that senna would learn how to use the hallowed mist and use that against Veigo. Honestly though I don't like how it ended. I feel that they could have used this as an opportunity to lead to the next part of the story. That my opinion tho.
Honestly this event was such a huge disappointment I’ll never understand why they would give this huge lore event to the team that DOESNT WORK ON THE LORE
well it was forced. ATREUS has control of his body but the PANTHEON who was currently dead inside him ( AATROX knocked him out of control of the body) was resurrected by VIEGO. I’m a bit sad you didn’t mention the “big explosion” as his ultimate, Heartbreaker, because if you pause at the right time you can see it looks extremely similar to his in-game ult icon. Edit: not to mention the sound, him dashing to Senna with his W, and Pantheon crashing into Lucian with his own ult.
Viego used all of his abilities on the cinematic. He dashes on Senna like in his W, he stabs Gwen much like his Q... He ults everyone back as you mentioned, he uses the mist to travel around like his E.
I dont think the caressing on the face was an evil flirtation, maybe leaning towards like”dear child you cant defeat me that easily”since viego is an old man
Something that's super important to the music box scene at the very end- Gwen's theme is a transposed, reversed version of Viego's theme. The music box plays in reverse once it's broken and only has Isolde on it, playing Gwen's theme. It's not something you would initially notice if you didn't know about their themes, but it's still a cool Easter egg!
I do wish the void got more attention (Kai’sa doesn’t count) as I only started playing the game when I saw Vel’koz, but I am shocked by how little they’ve done with Mord since his rework!
The Watchers and the Void were the original final-boss in the lore but then whenever they made the new universe they fucked up everything. We were supposed to get a champion (or champion skin) called The Dark Star which would essentially be the dark counterpart to Aurelion Sol (a creator-deity).
@@anythingatall7670 Not really. We know that when Targon forced Aurelion to fight the void and close the rifts, he noticed something in there that actually scared him. Wether it’s some enormous watcher or something entirely different we can’t be sure, but I would absolutely love to see them expand upon this part of the lore
Out of all of the cinematics that Riot has ever released, I can say this is probably the only one I hate. It feels way too out of place for the events of the whole event. They just released the Ruined King recently, and now he's just done in with now repercussions or consequences. It really feels like we could have just gone on without this being done.

While he dominated them in the beginning and then sent Pantheon to prevent the others from following up, the loss of Isolde is something that made him heartbroken as it took him a millennia to get her back.

It's just like how "half the community" has not…and will not…accept the "New" universe and its lore. Many of us have not forgotten that we are _summoners,_ a part of the living breathing world of Runeterra. In actuality, it is far more than half. My favourite part of the event was when yorick gave away his life waters saying its all that was left, meaning riot clearly forgot about the treant walking around like a tanker full of the stuff on the shadow isles
If I remember correctly, Maokai got partially corrupted in the ruination, so the water that it drank it's probably corrupted too
I actually thought that the point of that was gonna be that Yorick didn’t know about Maokai and he’s come save the day
Ironically the small impact that Yorick had in the visual novel was made with a tiny retcon.
He was around when it was still the Blessed Isles, he took the water on the Ruination, and not that he has a lot of it right now cause he just found it.

the whole budget excuse doesn't cut it though... we have seen Riot put more into cinematics before, plus this is the biggest event in League History, which is canonical and has been planned for multiple years... they could've and should've increased their budget... especially considering they released 10+ skins for this event for champions they knew would sell well (not to mention that Riot as a company implemented the event in WR, LOR, and even Val but Val can be excused for just being a crossover).
exactly. look at Awaken, they have 9 champs there shot at 3 different locations and the art looks really realistic so it's probably a lot more expensive to animate.

Please use paragraphs D:
But I agree; I hated how the characters had no depth and were literally just a one note thing.
You have said it all what I thought! Thank you!
Even with corona going on this event was pretty disappointing overall and it's such a shame because the story was actually really interesting and this whole thing could have been so much better!

They join cause the outfits are cool and shiny weapons that are worse/ can't use (Irelia/Riven/Diana)

No. That's stupid.
Correction: zilean is in the process of researching all possible futures and has yet to find one where they fend off the void

I think Valmar and Kai can convince him to fight the void. I mean his whole thing is vengeance against those who wronged him and the entity that caused the most of his suffering is the void.

that isn't how animation pipelines work, if employees are sick or unable to come to the studio due to lockdown (and other disruptions, some areas lost power earlier this year due to weather) they aren't going to have all the tech or files needed to complete an animation - it's a matter of time constraints and available personnel not just throwing money at a problem

The first line in the Maokai's lore (on the official website) is literally 'Maokai is a rageful, towering treant who fights the unnatural horrors of the Shadow Isles'. Plot twist: The real story writers were on Mordekaiser's come back and they left Ruination story to skin and animation team
Senna has always absorbed the back mist though, that’s literally her passive
So many good champions' lore thrown to the rubbish bin in this event... The finale was ok, but they forgot vex and many others. This event was completely disappointing.
I think the reason vex didn't appear on the cinematic is because she hasn't been properly revealed, so all the people that hadn't seen the visual novel would be really confused
@@Chakrazx95 They spend more than eight months to create a cinematic, so I don't think they would have time to do that (imo)
I kinda feel like they just plopped Yorick in because people would have been mad if they forgot about him.
They changed main character for this lore 3 times lol, first it was yorick then miss fortune and suddenly it’s senna and lucian like wtff just stick with one
I am honestly willing to completely forget this event happened and let Riot try again (from scratch) next year.
Maybe not next year, but the year after would be very nice (just to let things settle down).
@@ultimoengin7826 The thing is, Riot has released some champs (Akshan and Vex soon) that relate, or at least should relate to the event. Even in a year's time they are going to become irrelevant...
Yeah. I know it sounds insensitive to just say, "throw the whoke event away" but it doesn't feel like they event put a lot of effort into the event sooo. I only understand the cinematic taking a while because visual novels are easy as shit to make so idk man maybe they'll try again
Necrit defending this cinematic was something I didn't expect to see
To be honest this event doesn't even hold a candle to Bligewater Event from 2015.
That event was so much fun, now I’m gonna reminisce about the good times to make up for this fuckfest of an event
Riot is not it's own company anymore. If the shareholder gave them a budget constraint, nothing Riot could've done.
@@DerikHendric still a multi-billion company that's no excuse for poor or lazy script writing
@@DerikHendric I know but it doesn't take money to write a good story to end the event :?
@@n0adezeiic206 the visual novel could be way better yes, but if the community say that was all garbage, they may as well never do this again. Or make something worse trying to listen to everyone.
Yes, doesn't take too much money to write a good story, but I thought the story was good. But poorly executed, and to execute it they need the time/money.
Can't wait for the next huge event being teased for 5 years before it disappoints within 5 minutes
I swear, if they mess up the WATCHERS ARC, I'm just be done with LOL including LOR, for good. That is, if we even will get that far since that event is and will, or would be even bigger than this one. Then there's also the Void that might return or whatever.
The only reason I could see why Viego caressed Senna's face is because there is still a piece of Isolde inside Senna, an action more of saying that "Finally, I will be reunited with you once again." to Isolde than a flirtatious intention to Senna herself.
the way viego is designed is more of a fuckboy than a loving husband at least his aesthetics. so thats was something from that perspective imo
The triangle did not disappear from his chest. at the very end of the movie, when the portal closes, you can see that it is still there.

When Gwen was able to hide senna in the hallowed mist, and senna realized that she still had a piece of Isolde inside her, I thought that senna would learn how to use the hallowed mist and use that against Veigo.

Viego used the mist to his advantage and killled pantheon cowardly instead of facing him head on
According to ingame skin , he used mist to revive the dead aspect inside pantheon
well it was forced. ATREUS has control of his body but the PANTHEON who was currently dead inside him ( AATROX knocked him out of control of the body) was resurrected by VIEGO. Rito took Viego's title quite literally, "the RUINED king"
Underrated comment.
Riot wanted so badly to make a sympathetic villain that they forgot the villain part.

1:38 Early lol cinametic had nocturne Vs Ryze. With nocturne animated well for its time. 😆. Maiden looks similar. It's fine, not best but fine.
Them not being able to animate the characters to any extent isn just a load shit. They had literal years to prep for this and there's no excuse for it to turn out the way it did.
Necrit: “well, is not great BUT they are such a small indie company, it would be too hard to make so many models for this cinematic”
Dude, since you get presents and walk around riot’s circle you became such a biased shill
It's really pathetic
so I wasnt the only one thinking this lol
And that is really sad. Like, I don't really feel like closely listening to Necrit anymore, he lost my credit of trust
I’m a bit sad you didn’t mention the “big explosion” as his ultimate, Heartbreaker, because if you pause at the right time you can see it looks extremely similar to his in-game ult icon.
Edit: not to mention the sound, him dashing to Senna with his W, and Pantheon crashing into Lucian with his own ult.
or the legends of runeterra ,,despair'' card
Fr it even worked the same when it pushed everyone away except Gwen bc she had the lowest hp
It also has the same sound of his R in-game
And when he approaches to Senna it's the sound of his W
Neat! :)
Worst event ever. Was supposed to be thanos level threat. Ended up being steppewulf/darkseid trash.
At least Steppenwolf in Zack Snyder Justice League is pretty well done. But not this event.
Riot fucked up such a potential. First the story itself, then Thresh
Are you talking about that champ in that knockoff mobile game?
@Theunwantedwings i know. I was joking about unbound tresh being the base skin on wildrift
The Void Event should be the big "villein" setup besides Mord.
@@kooldudematt1 the dark star character just seems like a big fuck you to the entire concept and lore of the void, and I don’t like that
@@anythingatall7670 Not really. We know that when Targon forced Aurelion to fight the void and close the rifts, he noticed something in there that actually scared him. Out of all of the cinematics that Riot has ever released, I can say this is probably the only one I hate. It feels way too out of place for the events of the whole event. They just released the Ruined King recently, and now he's just done in with now repercussions or consequences. It really feels like we could have just gone on without this being done.
Also Senna absorbing souls might just be a reference to her gameplay? idk how else to explain that
It is, she “redeem” the souls after she took the mist tainting them, you can actually see that in action back in the first cinematic. But how it worked on Viego is just nonsense imo.
They killed the lore of so many characters, stop trying to defend riot
How is he defending it lol
