Now that the US has moved away from a agrarian / production based society and the rest of the world has rebuilt post WW2, the entire global economy that the US first suggested and fostered now completely negates what "the american dream" means for a lot of Americans. Guess what? If you want to achieve that dream, now you have to work harder for it. You can't just graduate high school and be given a union job that provides safety and financial security until you decide to retire. I agree that there has to be reforms in regards to helping people reach these goals such as education subsidies and early life health insurance, but a lot of people who are still living with 1950 / 60s mentalities need to wake up, grab the bull by the horns and move forward.
