    Absolutely LOVE this video, you should be a teacher if you aren't already. I do get dizzy easily so having the camera not fixed made it so I could only watch this video 5 mins at a time before I got a little woozy. Otherwsise THANK YOU!

    Hi Mr Buff, hey your video is great, as I have the same desk, Ive learnt a lot, but where im deficient is the RHS of the desk and monitors.
    I was playing last night and couldnt get the Aux 3 to work, obviously Im doing something wrong, there's quite a few buttons and knobs on that side that Im unsure of, be great to hear your explanations of them.

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. Going into a computer, the cleanest sound will come from the USB digital output from the ZED. You can use a 2-track out or a ALT out and get an analog line level signal into the computer too. Thanks for asking and more to come…

    Would this work well recording with an 8 track reel to reel multitrack machine?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The ZED had a 2 track out put. You could use the AUX outs to get 3 more channels. But yes, that can be used in a limited way. Thanks for asking and more to come…

    Hi, can you use passive monitors on the aux output?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, if you have a speaker amp to power the speakers. All outputs are line level only and you will need a speaker amp. That is my preferred way to set up a system (not using powered speakers). Thanks for asking and more to come…

    Hi mate , ive got this going into cubase. Ive tried using it as an audio interface as my tascam 2 channel. Only problem is this unit is stereo in and out so as im monitoring drums and recording bass the drums get over dubbed on the bass as they output through the main L R. Can i re route the input to cubase or the output from cubase to seperate the feedback music from the main recording.. i think there is send option of pre LR and Aux. also the return on ST3 has default LR or option for channel. Thinking selecting this then aux the return to alt output and phones for monitor? Thanks again

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’t dry to use one of the aux sends. Aux 1 and 2 are pre fade only and Aux 3 is post fade. Good luck!

    Thanks for the video, its very well explained. Im planning on using the three aux channels to run two in ear monitoring transmitter and a floor monitor. Do you have an opinion on which Aux would you use for which?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! Aux 1 and 2 are pre-fade and Aux 3 is post-fade. It might be best to keep both IEMs pre and the floor post (for simplicity). Let me know what route you choose.

  • @scruffy2365
    @scruffy2365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks so much. I purchased this a week ago. Only thing missing on this that others have is the one dial compressor on each channel, do you think this is a good feature to have?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A compressor on each channel can be a help, but I find it to hurt most people’s mix. The mixing console is a hands on instrument. The operator needs to understand the music/spoken words and reproduce it as the author has intended. The compressor too many times replaces the operator and the mix can looses that personal feel. But used properly, the compressor can help smooth out a mix.

    if I want to send individual tracks to a reel to reel tape machine, which out do I use?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      since there are no direct outs on the input channels, you can use 1/2 of the insert jack to accomplish the same thing. its a bit tricky on the wiring though.

    Awesome video, just have one question that I’ve been battling with. I’ve been using this to record guitar tracks into a DAW. I’ve been going Guitar-pedalboard-mixer-computer(using the USB interface).. for some reason my clean guitar signal is SO quiet, I have to crank the gain to be able to hear anything. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi, I’ve just bought a used ZED14 in Mint Condition, are Allen & Heath desks reliable? I’m only going to be plugging 3 x keyboards into it in stereo, then send keys to FOH from the desks main outs… always had Soundcraft ES and EPM desks, but fancied someat different this time, any advice would be awesome 😎 thanks

      I have been a huge fan of A&H for over 20 years. With every brand, there can be problems, especially when trying to cut cost. Sound Craft is another good brand I use when I can’t get A&H in time. 3 services a week I sit behind A&H’s Queen of the fleet, the dLive and love it. But 5 years in, we had to have it serviced. To answer your question, Allen and Heath is a very good company. I love the ZED series because it is a great price point for smaller applications. To prove my point even more, check out this video, th-cam.com/video/ZW5XmgwrqI8/w-d-xo.html I used the ZED for the Oklahoma Governor's inauguration. Estimates of 200,000 people watched or herd the event, and all the sound came from the ZED!

    How many channels/inputs you see in DAW when connecting this to a computer? Or the USB Interface is 2in/2out only?

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The USB handles 2 ch in and 2 ch out. The 2 ch in can be routed from your Left and Right, Aux 1 and Aux 2, or Aux and FX. The 2 in/2 out can be used at the same time. When I plugged it into my Mac, the computer instantly recognized the ZED as a mic and speaker option.

  • @mikedubz5576
    @mikedubz5576 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im looking at both mixers you have there which one sounds better and is a better bang for buck either you use the sound Card on the soundcard of the mtk22 or without using my external RME firewire fireface400 in order to bring in sound from the laptop to the mixer.

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer Allen and Heath over Sound Craft. The A&H is a better build but the the Sound Craft has a little better EQ section. The built-in USB Jack allows you to send 2 channels of audio to a computer and at the same time, return 2 channels of audio back to the mixing console. Thank you for watching!

  • @abiweisz

    Hey, great tutorial there! I was just wondering if you can explain what makes this particular model a 16 channel mixer, (or I own the zed12fx.. why is it called 12?), when in reality there is only 10 (or 6 in mine) XLR inputs... Like if I would place a 1/4 into the same channel as where an XLR is plugged in, can I control them individually??

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. It is all about marketing. The ZED 16 has 16 total input channels available (mic and line) also counting the stereo channels as 2. On the mono input channels (XLR) you can not control the XLR and 1/4” at the same time. its either/or. Thank you for watching!

    Fantastic video! I've been using this mixer for years (ZED14) and I love it, but not tech minded so does not come easily. One question when you talked about the INSERT jacks on the mono channels, you said you can send out to effects, I don't understand bc I've been using the AUX sends for that. So if I have synths coming in the LINE jack on a mono channel, if I were to go out the INSERT jack to effects, where would I come back in? Thanks.

    • @justiceisnow3162
      @justiceisnow3162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most mixers have their own internal effects which like you say are available usually on one of the aux sends. Inserts are mostly used for something like compression on a vocal or bass. The insert point is send and return therefore you would use an “insert” cable. Cheers

    • @audiobuff
      @audiobuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The insert jack is a unbalanced send and return, all in one. The pin out configuration is tip and sleeve - SEND. Ring and sleeve - RETURN. This would be used for any EQ, compression, or reverb you want inserted into that channel only. The aux method, which is the most common, would be used when you want do add the EQ, compression, or reverb to the entire mix. Thank you for asking, more to come…

      @@audiobuff - this is very interesting. - I had a Pioneer DJM-900 with a RMX FX unit - on a send-return and managing levels was a nightmare - when I added a lot of effects, the return would clip, so I would have to lower the volume on the main out - to use FX - If the insert sends out at the pre-amp level - is this to deal with this issue, or am I totally missing the point? - I am very excited about getting this mixer, seems amazing.

      I would take the output from AUX3 (post fade) and feed that to the external FX unit. And then, I would bring the output from the FXs back into a stereo input channel. That way you have some eq and can route the FXs to AUX 1 or 2. Hope this helps!
