I was contacted by someone asking for help with modding Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising and of course I had to play it again after talking about it :P
Even after 10 years, this game still has a feel to it that I don't get from other shooters and its just as enjoyable as it was back then!
You can tell its been a long time since I've played, I moved forward too quickly and paid for it several times. I knew we were done for at the end as soon as I looked into town :P
I ended up having to use 2 arty strikes at the beginning just to take Madlenka! This was about the fourth attempt :)

I have just installed this mod and I gotta say thanks. Makes the game 100x better. Better FOV, better colours, tons of extra missions etc. Great job!

I haven't played since 2015. I used to enjoy this game during my teenage years. I miss it so much. Your missions were some of my favorite.

@@templargfx I just downloaded it on Steam today. I have an old CD copy in my old house but I didn't think it was worth travelling literally over a thousand kilometers to get it back. And I couldn't stand not being able to play it after watching hundreds of videos on TH-cam. I'm having a blast so far. Ahhh, the memories.
I played this baby back on xbox 360, it was one of the only realistic tactical shooters we had and it was so great.
Codemasters really dropped the ball with red river trying to chase that cod money
They really did! and to make it worse they removed all modding/mission editing that Dragon Rising had, so the community couldn't even make something out of it

If you edit on a 4k timeline and then export your video in 4k, even when the captured footage is lower than 4k, your video quality is improved dramatically on TH-cam. TH-cam uses much better compression methods on videos that are uploaded at 4k, so even if the visual quality of the exported file is the exact same as it was in say 1080p, the 4k version on TH-cam will look significantly better because TH-cam is dumb like that

Man this look awesome. If the PS3 version allowed mods, I would play this nonstop for a month. I bought OFDR entirely be chance years ago and I fell in love with it after the first mission. And even though I can only replay the campaign, it’s still fun to play.
still one of my favorite games!
There are so many missions and campaign mods on the PC version of this, you gotta get it someday man.

is it possible for one request. or is it possible to add super sonic sound effects? I know there are some but its hard to hear or very rare to hear the crack. would you be able to make a sound pack for ricochets and super sonic bullet cracks?
I can't figure out how to change the FOV, how did you do it? Is it part of the Sans FOV changer mod? Or something else... Great video btw!

really cool mod and great work. quick question, whenever i try to reload from checkpoint after dying, my fps drops and get stutters big time. works fine when i hit restart mission, am playing with the longplay setting turned on
yeah unfortunately theres not much you can do when that happens. Basically the game runs out of memory because its programmed by morons causing this to happen. In that situation your only choice is to restart using the longplay feature and choose a start point near where you were
Is this game coming back?! it was well ahead of its time.

@@KIRA666790 ARMA is very similar and the closest thing to it. but I find ARMA gets caught up in its own simulation and often (especially single player) that realism gets in the way of a fun time

After looking for Alien V6 Progress i saw you also made something for OFDR and can i ask you what did you used to extract files? Because im highly interested for the sound files because i want to make a OFDR inspired reimagination Campaign for Arma 3 and or just a new OFDR Radio Protocol Mod. I cant find anything with google. Anyone made for a other game a weapon sound replace mod which used OFDR weapon sounds but cant remember for what and can't find it again so i would ask him too. Now you are my only chance atm. =D
Hi there, sorry I missed this in the flood of comments! Its quite complex and a bit too much so for a youtube comment, however the very faulty extraction method used to get files to mod OFDR was only reliable at extracting the script files. There may have been some sound files that were extracted in tact but I never tested them. things like models and textures were all corrupted when extracted due to their file size

@@xLachesis580x If you dont have this link, this is your best resource for OFDR. the old forums section has some gold in it, including the instructions on how to extract the files. I believe you'll find everything you need in here somewhere, although its a little hard to go through

If you follow the instructions and get it working like I have with that aspect ratio, it works in all areas of the game!
So how exactly does this mod work? Its the entire island right? & its basically doing different objectives to take control of the entire island? Do friendly units spawn in the captured zones? If u die, are the captured zones spawn points? What about auto saves and checkpoints? & can we choose which weapons to use at any given time?
There are some 130 locations on the island that are capture points. Each point is a spawn point where weapon crates, vehicles and units may spawn. At the beginning of the mission all locations are controlled by the enemy and you chopper in to take your first location. After then allied units will spawn at the location you captured and begin to move out to enemy controlled locations nearby. The enemy will send troops form nearby locations to try and recapture your location.
The game was never designed for this type of gameplay, so the player can't respawn perse. You can load checkpoints if you die though, and each time you capture a location and clear it of enemies a checkpoint will be created. You can also set the mission config file to run in long play mode, where the mission will remember the state of the locations on the island for the next time you start the mission. This is why there are 40+ starter locations, so you can select where to spawn in on the island to continue your assault

Find a place to buy a steam key for OFDR and install it and the mission editor.

I have been playing your mod since you have started making this mod, and I need to ask you a couple of questions if that is alright.
#1: What is your mod load order?
#2: Have you thought of combining all mods into one so there is no mod load order problems?
I have noticed that a couple of your mods seem to conflict with others which is why I am wondering if you would create a one complete bundle instead of having them all separate.

Im not sure what you mean by load order, do you mean order of installation? There is no mod manager to effect the order of loading stuff.
When installing IW2017 just install the main mod, then install the updates in any order you want. none of them conflict. some have duplications of required files so if you install one but not the other, it will still work

and another mod called
(OF:Dragon Rising Single-player Overhaul Mod) that includes island war but made in 2010
whats better? the 2017 island war or the OF:Dragon Rising Single-player Overhaul Mod with it included ? is there any difference ? because i'm planning on modding the hell out of OFDR and the OF:Dragon Rising Singleplayer Overhaul Mod looks to save me a ton of time but at the same time island war is to good to take the long way around if there is a massive difference
(currently got the 2017 version having a blast. getting my butt kicked but having a blast XD)

@@noelvermillion9831 Awesome! Pro Tip - Find yourself a group of AI that are not under your command heading out to attack something and stick with them.
The ai will try and take over the Island without your help and theres a whole tactic attack system in play. usually your on the receiving end of it and dont see any of the setup.

That makes sense XD I went miles behind enemy lines in a helicopter got shot down and had a 30-minute final stand against enemy tanks jeeps and spec ops for 30 mins at a little military compound in the middle of the map.
No body heard my cries for MEDIC and I was 4 chewy chunks on the floor after taking a stray tank round to the face 🤣

Hey man, I know its an old video but I need help to download your awesome mods... first of all I just got OPFDR from Steam but I dont see the folder called ‘missions’ inside the data_win.... I only see the option ‘media’. Any idea of what can I do?
Maybe I just need to replace the steam .exe of the game for the moddable .exe
If so, can you help me with that too because I dont really know how to do it (Im a console gamer and this is very new to me lol).
Your best bet is to just head to the IW2017 moddb page and download the main package and install it. It will copy everything you need in there and create the mission folder for you

My game is still the og Steam version, not moddable. So now, what should I do? Do I need to extract those files (winrar required?) or just plug them into my game data? Also, this is kinda a dumb question but I guess in case anything goes wrong I wont lose my steam version of OFDR, right?

I’m very new to PC gaming and all I have right now is a HP laptop, it runs Minecraft fine and fall guys but I’m hoping to play games like dragon rising, because I know that games like arma will destroy my laptop. My laptop says it has a ryzen 4000 series CPU/processor and a Radeon graphics card. I have now idea how good those are and whether or not they can run Dragon rising with mods, but any input would be seriously helpful
You should be fine, the game came out aaaages ago. if you have a dedicated graphics card it should run great

1. I have a question about the Ultimate AI 2017 Feb. 21 2017 update. What are the changes it makes to the AI in the Island War 2017 Jan. 25 2017 file? I ask this because every update works great except for the ultimate AI Feb. 21 update. The game crashes randomly within 2 to 10 minutes at every starting point on the island. When I install Island War 2017 and all the updates but the ultimate AI Feb 21, there are no crashes. I really would like to get the full experience you intended with all the updates.
2. My second question or request is can you fix the load checkpoint bug where it seems like it doesn't use the graphics card and the FPS is at like one or two frames. I have to restart the whole mission over again. And yes I have changed the file to 1 to have long play. I have tried to load checkpoint in long-play and short playing. Same results, unplayable.
I know you're probably busy with life and other games so I totally understand. Thank you so much for making an awesome mod.

If I remember correctly the main ai change was to the use of grenade weapons. Probably some other balance tweaks too. You could try just copying the files in the root fo the AI folder and not the sub folders
Unfortunately as for the checkpoint load bug, I think its an issue with game memory management and I never found a solution

So I tried what you said about installing only the root folder ai. Still crashed. It gave me an idea though. Thank you. I did extensive trial and error with all the files in the Ultimate AI 2017 February 21st update. I installed one at a time to see if the game would crash. I deducted that it was crashing from the ai folder. All other folders and files in the ultimate AI 2017 February 21st update did not cause a crash. I finally deducted that it was the weaponsusagevalues.xlm file causing the crashes. When I used the oringinal xlm file no crashes, but the new xml file crashes for sure.
I then compared all the data in the new xml file with the original. You added some weapons that are not in the original.
What is a scrum Rifle?
So I took the original xml file and edited all the values to match the new xml file but did not add any of the new weapons. So the original file had the same weapons in it (no new ones) I just edited the numbers to match the new xml file. It crashed. So it must be an original weapon in the original xml file with the new values entered.
Do you have any ideas which one it might be?
I am going to try and add the new weapons to the original xml file but not change the values.
One more thing, I noticed that the ultimate AI 2017 February 21st update has a data\config.dat file and so does the EGO engine upgrade. Which one should I use since they override each other depending on which one is installed last?

@@BeastBZ a 'scrum' rifle is a basic assault rifle that was never fully implemented I think.
It will be one of the weapons that has an underbarrel launcher on it (I think). Unfortunately its been too long and Im not sure anymore
as for the config.dat both updates have the same file in it, I included it in both just incase you install one but not the other.

Do you recall there ever being a time where someone modded in checkpoints for hardcore mode for the original campaign or have normal mode but remove the HUD like hardcore mode? I really enjoy playing my game with no HUD but no saving is killing me. Pun intended.

How do you get npc's to respawn in the map?
NPC's only spawn at locations you control, that are in range of you and have no enemies nearby
Do you have a mod that adds checkpoints or infinite respawns to the main campaign?
Also this should be a stand alone game.
unfortunately codemasters never released the mission files for the original missions so they can't be directly modified

Only issue I am having is my friend and I were trying to play Island War 2017 and the main campaign. He hosts and I join.
I get out of the chopper and the only thing I can do on my end is move. And he will see me until my character gets shot or changes a weapon.
Any thoughts?

There is a hard limit of 80 units in world at one time. Island War tracks hundreds of units to get around this but only 80 can actually be active at once. Still thats a decent battle for sure!
Also, totally playable in COOP up to 4 players

It is frustrating when they won't heal you, but they won't do it because they will likely die trying :P

How did you change the fov ?
Its a cheat, with my mods installed you can choose non standard aspect ratios. You play the game in windowed mode and use a custom aspect ratio. On the ModDB page under articles you will find instructions

@@ArkadaTheDergon The checkpoints do not work because of a memory management bug within the game. Set the Island War to long play and just restart mission or do a different starting point and you will still have the capture points you already conquered.
The random crashes for me came from the ultimate AI 2017 February 21st update folder ai\weaponusagevalues.xml file. Switch this file with the one that came with the oringinal IW2017. I also like running the OFDR.exe run as administrator. I am trying to find the exact weapon that's causing the crash. But it's a lot of trial and error. I will post my findings on moddb.com.
