    Hey man, just wanted to say you did the Aliens community a great service by fixing this game, I started coming back to the franchise since the release of Romulus. I was wondering if the latest version of your overhaul replaces the MK2 model of the Pulse rifle to the MK1, I saw a very old article talking about it with pics but i can’t find any footage of this being true besides a completely separate mod made by Agatsuma that does it

      Unfortunately the game is just too difficult to mod to considering going at it again. Simple changes take hours to do and even more in testing. It was a monumental effort to make the mod and so far I dont have the desire to go through that again :P

    Hi Templargfx! I'd like to make a TH-cam video that covers some of your work with Aliens Colonial Marines, but I have a couple of questions. Initially there was a lot of publicity around the "teather" typo you've discovered, but since then in your video's description for, "ACM Overhaul V6 - Finally Fixed!", you say, "It turns out the biggest bug in the game was not one-letter long after all. A movement function called, 'displace' was the culprit for Xenos standing still, not moving intelligently, and just generally being idiots!" So, after this discovery, I'm curious if just changing the typo "teather" to "tether", actually would have made much of a difference in your opinion, or was it a placebo for gamers when they said they thought the game was running better? Can you explain the differences in problems caused by the "teather" typo, and the "Displace" movement function? Do you have any ideas on why "Displace" didn't actually cause the Xenomorph AI to displace as expected, and had them standing still instead? Thank you for your time in reading this, and for your time working on this game!

      In the game Tethers are fixed point in the game world that the AI can use to enter and exit a set piece and ensure they stay in the area so that they don't wander off to somewhere the player will never go, wasting their spawn. The type meant that the AI would not attach to a new tether when chasing the player, so you'd move to a new area and the AI would try and chase you, it would unattach itself from its current tether and then run the broken command, so it would not get attached to a new tether. Once this happened the AI had just one option use a path to go to the player (which would be mostly a straight path) Everyone blew this way out of proportion because they didn't read my description and wanted to make click bait titles The update regarding displace was a bit of a play on the whole situation, but displace does have a much larger impact on the game than the tether. Basically when the AI wants to move outside of the pathing system, or break up a group that are close together it calls a function called displace. There was something broken in it that caused it in alot of situations to 'crash' the ai for that unit and it would stop doing anything until interacted with. This is a big problem if the unit is outside of the play area when it happens as then its impossible for the player to shoot them and cause a function to get called that restarts the ai. If the game event your in says 'wait until all xenos are dead' and one of the xeno's is outside and stuck in the displace command, the event never ends With the pathing system there are not hundreds of nodes everywhere covering every inch of the floor/walls/etc they are pretty sparse so that searching using the A* algorythm is not very expensive, but this means that the AI will go to the same spot every time, the displace function basically chooses a random point nearby for them to move to instead. It can also be used when pathing fails from their current position to move them enough that the pathing system can now find a path

      @@YorkiesTV The AI use a state machine with several states and each state has several functions under them. there was an unused state that had a few functions that were also unused in it, so I used some hex editing wizardry to build my own function to replace it that did basically the same thing as displace, and then modified the states that call displace to use the function I created

    I was jus playing it recently and omg it’s got a lot of everyone else beside AI like the mod broke the ai for me and xenos weren’t spawning at the right time and would get stuck in weird places on objects where they shouldn’t have got stuck on but only when I took off the mod did the xenomorphs pose a threat, I think the mod probably has degraded since release

    Hey brother, I've just downloaded the exact combo like you did. I just wanted add A LITTLE bit more npc's to my game. The density is set to Low but my game is freaking FULL of them now and it's making my pc fry eggs. I might be looking at the wrong settings for the density. Do you have any idea where to change it?

      Get rid of my mod 'Alternate Crowds' or other density increase mods. My main mod Alternate Population already adjusts how NPCs are spawned so they always spawn in regardless of performance which will give you more NPC's. The Alternate Crowd mod is for people that want crazy amounts :P

      @@templargfx So If I understand correctly; if I were to have a density mod installed and then install your mod with alternate crowds along side it, your files will boost the density even further? I have made my own population mod so that is why I ask. I have adjusted spawn rates when mounted etc. So I would like to know for sure :D

      @@CaraHana most likely. the main mod removes the thing in the game that reduces the amount of NPC's and traffic spawned at runtime according to your games performance, ensuring that the game always spawns the maximum amount of NPC's as per your configuration files, location and time of day. If your computer is mad powerful it wont make much difference because its probably not reducing the amount

    Honestly I'm really frustrated with this mod. The improvements to the graphics, lighting, weapon FOV, and enemy AI are all great but it introduces more problems than it fixes. Ammo is overhauled so it barely drops (this is intentional apparently). Enemy AI frequently doesn't spawn altogether forcing me to go back and checkpoint restart over and over again until it does. Friendly AI often just stops working altogether blocking progression or making them stand in a corner during firefights. TTD is way off when fighting human enemies so you'll die in 3 seconds even on easy. This mod definitely has potential and I'd love to play through the whole game with it but as of now it makes it borderline unplayable and def needs more work. I'd recommend just doing it vanilla with the typo fixes.

      some people had limited success in modding the game files. We had an issue during this games modding scene. There was single custom app to extract the data files and it broke about half way through the pack files corrupting everything after that point, so all the corrupted stuff was not moddable.

    really cool mod and great work. quick question, whenever i try to reload from checkpoint after dying, my fps drops and get stutters big time. works fine when i hit restart mission, am playing with the longplay setting turned on

      yeah unfortunately theres not much you can do when that happens. Basically the game runs out of memory because its programmed by morons causing this to happen. In that situation your only choice is to restart using the longplay feature and choose a start point near where you were

    Hey Templar I wanted to see if you could tell me or make a tutorial video on how to use the hex files and locations for the pecan upk and the DEFGEN_UNLOCKVERSUS_SF UPK? I want to speed up the Xenos some but keep the AI because it's pretty decent after fixing the typo. I don't want to make them too fast to where it looks weird. Perfect example of speed I'm looking for is your faster tougher xeno from v6 final build beta . Here is a list of what I want done. Speed, melee and acid damage on the Xenos, disable qte for kicking and pulling off lurker and face hugger, disable marine melee because you shouldn't be able to or shall I say wouldn't think to melee a xeno, and remove zoomed aim down sights for all weapons that doesn't have a scope. I know a lot of your mods do this as well but it's always a big or two to keep it from being perfect. Like the Duplis big and the spitters spit over your head and can never hit you. And the hanger where Xenos get stuck often there and the gravity room. Please help me with this or maybe you can do it for me? Name your price.

    Feedback: Would be better to ALWAYS keep the 'original' and 'modded' description on the scree... I have been staring way too long at the original behaviour, thus wasting time.. Could have seen the difference in 5 seconds.. Not user friendly.

      Unfortunately not. While you can replace one xeno with another, they do not act as you would expect. There is obviously something in the map that 'sets them up' when they spawn, and whatever that is, it s not the same between xeno types.

    I just tried ACMO v6 and I couldn't believe how much it helps. There was actually a nice game buried under the glitchy mess we got at launch. I do have one slight issue though. I clean installed the game and then installed V6 ACMO and the 6.2 patch. The game works perfectly but I think something is off with the colors of the Xenomorphs, they look too purple. Also the face hugger looks like it has broken textures when it is attacking me in the face.

      They really did! and to make it worse they removed all modding/mission editing that Dragon Rising had, so the community couldn't even make something out of it

    for some reason with this mode I see that ambient occlusion is not work. I can enable it on vanilla via standard engine config (it works and looks really cool) but when mode installed such changes not affecting visual. Will test previous versions. What affecting visual most and you can definitely see it - additional light sources from allies and ambient occlusion. Rest is not do much imho.

      nevermind, my bad, tried to install v6 over v5. Still main thing I don't like in mode is overbrighted and high distance torches (main hero and allies) which decrease scary visual. Can you advise how can I fix it?

    So how exactly does this mod work? Its the entire island right? & its basically doing different objectives to take control of the entire island? Do friendly units spawn in the captured zones? If u die, are the captured zones spawn points? What about auto saves and checkpoints? & can we choose which weapons to use at any given time?

      There are some 130 locations on the island that are capture points. Each point is a spawn point where weapon crates, vehicles and units may spawn. At the beginning of the mission all locations are controlled by the enemy and you chopper in to take your first location. After then allied units will spawn at the location you captured and begin to move out to enemy controlled locations nearby. The enemy will send troops form nearby locations to try and recapture your location. The game was never designed for this type of gameplay, so the player can't respawn perse. You can load checkpoints if you die though, and each time you capture a location and clear it of enemies a checkpoint will be created. You can also set the mission config file to run in long play mode, where the mission will remember the state of the locations on the island for the next time you start the mission. This is why there are 40+ starter locations, so you can select where to spawn in on the island to continue your assault

    What, exactly has changed about the pulse rifle recoil? I remember that it was horrible in this game. Too much side-to-side, and the vertical recoil was upside down, so you had to correct it py pushing the mouse up, which was no fun at all

      All weapons have been rebalanced as best as possible. The 'new' pulse rifle is alot more controllable but not as powerful as the iconic one. The legendary pulse has alot of kick but does huge amounts of damage. so short controlled bursts with that one ;)

      Best mod ever IMO. Makes the game actually playable and what it should've been at launch. Seriously, Gearbox can go F itself six ways from Sunday for the BS they pulled with this game.

    Seriously, this mod is the goat of all mods I’ve ever played in every game !! I was trying to get an alternative to operation flashpoint Cold War crisis (arma is not well optimized so it’s frustrating), and I found this mod (I knew and played the game before but discovered a few days ago your mod) and know I have the perfect combination I always wanted. Thank you. Ps: sorry for my bad English

      If you follow the instructions and get it working like I have with that aspect ratio, it works in all areas of the game!
