Oh my gosh. You are teaching an old timer (87) new tricks. I have never done much cooking, but our daughter gave us an air fryer and then I discovered you on TH-cam. My first attempt was "grilled" cheese sandwiches. Using your techniques it turned out great. Then I tried frozen French fries and they also came out really good. So thanks for your enthusiastic presentations.

The thing is just rinsing them until they are not cloudy removes a large amount of the starch, but resting them in cold water is how you produce the best fries. Soak in the clear water for 2-3 hours in the fridge. Then you need to pat dry them thoroughly before air frying...

I'm sure these are wonderful. Truly. But it seems like a ton of work. When I was a teen, I worked as a fast-food cook. We merely parboiled up tons of potatoes the day before then let them sit overnight in the fridge. The next day the skin scraped off like magic. We then used a french fry press to cut them into the same size and then we par-fried many quarts of them in hot oil. When an order came in for fries, we put an order of the partially-fried ones into the basket. Perfect. Of course, that requires a bit more planning but it was a restaurant. I am actually going to try to make them today using half my recipe (boil and cool) and then my air fryer for the final cooking process.

This method works better than my usual method. I've always soaked my fries in the cold water, but never hot water. Love the hot water soak! Works much better. Cooking them for 5-10 minutes on 350 is like blanching fries in oil. Definitely my new favorite way to do fries. P. S. I don't use oil, but my fries hold seasoning without. Even healthier and I don't use oil for anything anymore.

These were excellent. I didn’t notice much starch in the water after the 10 minute hot soak. Thanks for the finger-width tip; it helped a lot!! I opted against dumping the fries out after they had cooked a bit and henceforth after because my AF doesn’t have a basket, just a rack. The rack falls out with the fries, and when hot, it’s a bit of a problem! I did use tongs to move things around thoroughly every 5 minutes. I tried some Lawry’s Seasoned Salt and it was good, and added ketchup as I didn’t feel like doing anymore work and it was delicious enough! Found your channel a few days ago and have been going nuts with the AF!!

With having the cosori dual blaze, the thicker chip works better. I do them at 180 degrees for about 23 mins and they turn out perfect.

Just brought home an air fryer and found your channel. First cook, 3 red potatoes (what I had) cut and steamed for 15 minutes, dried, then tossed (shake & bake style) with oil/salt/garlic/basil/paprika and into the fryer at 400F for 8 min, toss then 8 min more. Result pretty good, but I think could be better. Maybe over steamed and under fried just a touch, but not a bad breaking in. Wings on deck in a couple hours. New tool, but the learning curve looks to be steep (aka fast).

I do love homemade fries. The way I have made them for years is a two step frying method like you did. First to cook them through and second, at a higher temperature, cooking them to they are crisp. The only oil to use, ir fat, is rendered duck fat. It's as good as frying things in bacon fat. So I when I get an air fryer I will try it your way but with duck fat.
There is a restaurant in my area that makes avocado fries. They first cut them into strips and bread them in a mix of quinoa and other seeds and then fry them. The outside is crispy and the inside are soft. The are seved with a chipotle mayonnaise and are very addictive! I will experiment and get back to you.

Kathy, hello from Australia. Great tips that work well, thanks.
(Why do you wear your watch whilst preparing the food?)
Try using a large zip-lock bag to add oil and spices (that saves cleaning up time)
I use Canola Oil spray and either Italian mixed spice, or veggie spices, into the bag for coating!
Shaking Air Fryer pan every five minutes and removing french fries (we call then chips) when the color is right.
My Air Fryer is over 5 years old and is used many times in the week. Bye....John Murray

I've tried a few online methods and with okay to poor results. Your method is worth a try. Seems like a lot of work for fries though. I use my method which is peel, cut (starfrit pototo chipper), wash, dry, oil and then cook for 12 min at 400 and flip after 7 min. I eat in the dark while watching a movie so I get by. Once again I will try your method. You did a great job

This is a great receipt that has become pretty-much my standard. It is quite important to cut uniformly, soak and dry the fries. After 10 minutes in my Cosori Air Fryer, I add them back to the bowl and sprinkle in the seasonings, whatever I am in the mood for. One trick that I do sometimes because I read that McDonald's soaks its fries in beef stock--and I cannot be bothered to do that--is to add a dash of powdered beef bouillon to the seasoning. After that, I put them back in the basket, turn up the heat, check them every five minutes and toss them in the basket without returning them to the bowl. Doing it this way, they turn out better than most restaurant fries: They are not as good as the best, but they are better than most. One way that I have been eating them recently is to immediately drizzle Okonomiyaki sauce and Kewpie Mayonnaise on them whilst hot and, then, sprinkle on some Japanese Furikake Seasoning. Also, with the right seasonings, they are delicious even without any extra sauce.

This cooking time is insane. I cut my fries, rinse them good and let them soak for a couple minutes. Spray them with some extra virgin olive oil, cook them and when done cooking, season them lightly and enjoy. I could make a couple separate batches in these time frames, although I do evenly distribute them in my Ninja Air Frier different then they kind in this video. You could go all out and cook a medium pizza in mine.
I don't make a ton of fries since it is just me and I don't have a huge stomach. 1 potato a good size and I am all set. I like your garlic and salt mix at the end, but the other, sort of ruins the healthy side although seems tasty with that dip you make.
