*_A great video explaining GBS & its variants. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge, Doctor! 👍👏_*
*I do have just one question for you (or anyone else reading this): What are the chances of someone unlucky enough to become afflicted with GBS TWICE? And by TWICE, I am referring to a possible scenario such as the following:*
_A 35yo male patient presents with GBS symptoms to the hospital & is later confirmed to be suffering from GBS. Several months later, all indications seem to confirm that this patient has made a complete recovery. Fast forward 10 years... the same scenario occurs to this same patient (now 45yo) and luckily, he again makes a full recovery._
_So again, has anyone ever heard of 'lightning striking twice' re: GBS? And if so, how rare is that? I assume it is QUITE rare._
*As a non-Doctor (I am completely unassociated with the medical field), one takeaway I get from this video & many others is this: the sheath that covers the nerves called the **_MYELIN SHEATH_** is one of the most (or maybe THE most) vulnerable pathology targets of these diseases/conditions.*
_It would be great if there was something/someone in the medical field that could somehow fortify (make stronger/make 'less impenetrable') the MYELIN SHEATH. If there were a way to make the MYELIN SHEATH 'undamageable' (or much more resistive to damage), perhaps a lot of these conditions/diseases (multiple sclerosis, Guillan-Barre, etc) could be avoided or made way less severe?_
*Anyway, that's just an honest observation from a non-medical guy just simply observing & commenting. : ) Thanks for reading my long comment! 👍*
PS: So glad to hear about the high rate of full (and to 'near full') recovery in GBS patients. Thankfully, I personally haven't experienced having GBS, but know of a couple of people who were unlucky enough to be inflicted with it (but they made full/nearly 100% recoveries).

My mother 84 years , who was healthy doing her daily chores on her self, brief exercise in the mornings..She complained of sudden electric shock when walking towards the wash room, next day she felt uneasy and unable to stand straight...sudden loss of numbness of ankle and knee within 1 hour..rushed to hospital, diagnosed GBS on admission to ER. Immediate 5 course of IVIG didnt provide any recovery..2 days at ICU Of which 1st day she was able to speak ..next day she passed away peacefully...If the patient is young go for respirator (but recovering will take months and lots of money) or if they have lived their ripeful age, dont go for respirator (it will be more painful and follow up with be a nightmare/suffering ...may no one contract GBS.....

Spinal shows slight elevation in protein. Just looking for options to reduce or determine if the GBS is on the decline and not to get too worried about the worst.

She can move her lips a little bit and that is it. Wondering if she can come out of this? What is the best IV given for food for GBS? Would shots of B12 help? She was sick with the flu for about a week and this was four weeks ago. She got better but did not eat very much for three weeks and could not hold food down both ways. My mother woke up with muscle weakness in hands and feet. We got her to the hospital, next day she couldn t move them at all. She felt the touches but could not move, no pain. The 3 day she was on imunoglobulin therapy for 5 days. A few days since the therapy started she could move a little the feet and hands. She doesn t feel when she urinates. She was diagnosed with AMAN. Do you think it s AMAN or simple GBS? If it s AMAN what is the recovery prognossis? We are from Bucharest, Romania. Now at 2 weeks from the debut she has been transfered on recovery department and will begin physiotherapy.
