From the viewpoint of a creative writing major, this story is really good. The surrealism packed with metaphor, wit, and social commentary made this really enjoyable. I could easily see this in one of my former college textbooks.
This is what I was thinking the whole time too. A wonderful short story with a good bit of depth ♥️ possibly my favorite so far. (New subscriber, currently binging )
@@lpolarisl219 rip expectation, although we do have sharks visiting at a shore side coffee shop where i work at here in fiji quite frequently, come visit me, you might see some nice sharks
Yes! When I planned out this series in September I actually originally called it New Rakugo. Decided to change it due to a lot of initial negative feedback from native Japanese speakers however.
I'm not super familiar with Rakugo (it's the solo Japanese stage comedy, right?), so I'm wondering: what was it that native speakers didn't like about the name?
Basically Rakugo is a live art, unlike what I do; natives thought I shouldn't use Rakugo as there is a very large difference between what a pro Rakugo-ka does and what I do :)
I am so envious of your Japanese fluency and story telling. You're a talented individual. I've been self studying Japanese for a year and a half now and I still can barely express myself.
Thank you Tim! It definitely took a lot of time and effort to get to where I am. Majored in Japanese linguistics during college, and spent four years after graduation working on creative writing. I think of this youtube channel as a combination of the two :) Incidentally I'm thinking about doing some Japanese lessons on patreon-will probably make an announcement in the next month or so :) thank you again!
It's quite obvious, but I like your criticism packed into this surreal story. To get more into this discussion: I don't know if it's all about vanity, I guess it's more about being afraid not fitting the (also surreal) beauty standards. As far as I know Japanese women have also the lowest BMI and the most pressure of being thin. The whole conversation looked to me more like women/girls being afraid than truly vain. Just my thoughts on this (as a woman.)
+Kyroyal thank you for the comment! and sorry for the late reply! just saw this. Yes, you're absolutely right-in this story the girls' vanity is sort of a defense mechanism to oppress insecurity. That is to say, their 'vanity' is only on the surface--they try to appear self confident to hide their fears, and would likely behave completely differently when alone. thank you for the analysis, I really enjoyed reading it!
This is honestly such a great story. I always pay attention to storytelling and how it usually flows, I'm always critical about it. But this, man this was great.
This is so far my favourite videos of yours. The story, in all its absurdity, is captivating, and so is your voice telling it (no achievement, just an observation). You also have a hand (?) for telling timing.
I like to listen to a story, and thinking about it in a form of an early colored sketch. And this kind of story is the best to think about. Cant wait for more!
lol this really made my day! I love sharks, this story was awesome! I hope for more shark stories to come, hehe :D also, your videos are really encouraging me to learn Japanese so I can one day understand without the subtitles :)
+Varis Varjo thank you very much :) haha I love sharks as well. ALL up in that shark week. I hope you enjoy the upcoming content! btw I made a twitter to do japanese tips, feel free to follow! Good luck with your studies! @TH-camDogen
Thank you, that means a lot. I've definitely thought about it! I initially planned on doing each skit in a single take, but the preparation took far too long. Thank you for the support again!
This one made me subscribe. Although in all honesty vanity is also a trait that manifest on a different way on men so I'd like an X and Vanity story about men too
I figured out why I find your videos so funny. It's the same sort of humour in an anime called 田中くんはいつも気だるげ. Have you ever watched it? You may find it as funny as I did. I wish they made more episodes. But at least I've discovered your videos, which are just as funny.
I think there might be something wrong with me, I have have now re-watched this over a dozen times now (not including those times I force random people to watch it). Could you please do a new skit of further adventures of コーヒ 鮫? Until then... I'll be watching it again (and again, hey I am sure it is helping my Japanese). ありがとう!
Hello! Thank you very much! haha I never thought about doing a sequel to this one, but I'll give it some though :) thank you for the support! incidentally this is one of my personal favorites :D これからもよろしく!
Really enjoy your channel, I am amazed you don't have more subscribers. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the possible return of my favorite コーヒ 鮫. Oh and recently started following your Instagram for pronunciation help, good stuff. Here's hoping you get all the internet fame you deserve (want?), 頑張って!
I really appreciate it. Perhaps it's because I don't actively ask my audience to follow (within the videos that is). Any Facebook shares along the lines of 'can't believe this person doesn't have more subscribers' would be amazeballs though! thank you very much again, every little bit helps at this point ^^
Thank you! I have several more stories like this in the pipe :) They typically take much longer to film than the Japanese lessons, but writing them is much more gratifying.
Dogen. Sorry to bring up tricking conditioning (saw your video on this). How often should one do leg weight training to get good jumps but without overtraining? My jumps are terrible so I am just doing conditioning for now.
+Vegan Clown Hey! That really all depends on how in shape you already are. In general, I recommend strength training through squats and deadlifts 5x5 style (google it if you've never heard of it) during the off season (wet fall, winter), and tricking 2/3 times a week during the on season, with maintenance strength training about once every two weeks.
+Dogen Oh right I remember I subscribed to get better at Japanese haha Oh I'm studying in Oita which was the epicentre of the recent quake too... Great to see you are also doing fine 👍

You know, somehow I doubt that this is a true story.... Nah I think I'm just being overly suspicious.

8/10 not enough water
+theetankorn ariya lololol will keep that in mind for future shark topics.
He is better off just order a gallon of water and a whole pig, actually.
no pigs on that day, only pigs in a blanket.
shazam.

Seems like a TH-cam version of a Rakugo story. I'm ok with that.

Ten points for spelling doughnut as doughnut and not "donut".
