      If there was a fire in a data center hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of servers and equipment, a co2 or halon extinguisher would allow you to put out the fire while saving the other servers from further damage due powder or water based extinguishers.

      Actually relatively simple. You can use a Class D Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher, or you just pile on dirt/sand and smother it. Bear in mind, Magnesium typically burns at over 2000 degrees Centigrade, so my advice, as a former firefighter, if you start or find a Magnesium fire, get as far away as you can, while also calling the Fire Department.

    After years working with fire extinguishers, I wish people with a little knowledge would ask experts before making comments that scare people. The dry chemical inside the ABC fire extinguisher is not bad for you. Telling people that it scares them from using them.
    On a side note, I have never seen a kitchen fire, where they recovered the food to eat. So use the most effective agent, not the cleanest. The area will have to be cleaned up anyway.
    And both of those chemicals absolutely are designed to extinguish gas fires.

    When I was a missionary in Brazil a fellow missionary attempted to make popcorn by putting cooking oil in the bottom of a funnel shaped pan called a couscouseiro and then obviously adding the popcorn. The thing that this young man added to the couscouseiro that he should not have was the lid to the pan in question. The result was an explosive achievement of autoignition of the cooking oil under moderate pressure. The tower of fire that resulted would have easily been put out by flour or baking soda, so naturally this young man decided to put the fire out with a frying pan full of tap water. The resulting fireball was at least two and a half feet in diameter. Fortunately I was coming into the kitchen as the "extinguishing" was taking place and was able to put almost a whole container of baking soda into the pan instead. The baking soda actually extinguished the fire and the fire department was not needed. Moral of the story, water doesn't put out grease fires:-)

An ABC fire extinguisher will definitely put out a gas fire like that. You just have to aim for the base of the flame where the gas is coming out.

      Smoke would pretty effectively extinguish a solid fire anyway. Soot smothers the fuel while CO2 starves the flame of oxygen.

    So in one of your older videos you tested glow in the dark sticks. As part of the experiment you mixed dish soap with it to see if the glow liquid would mix with water and you discovered it made it glow brighter. So my question is can you use dish soap (or other liquids) as an activator for the glow liquid?

    As many times as I've seen you guys put out fires this way, I'm surprised you didn't point out just putting a larger pot or lid on the grease fire to smother the flames. I know this was specific to fire extinguishers, but still. Some folks really don't know or think about it.

    Okay for the kitchen fire extinguisher that put the fire out in the forge, I believe it was because sodium bicarbonate (when heated by a fire) turns into carbon dioxide
    And the ammonium fire extinguisher changed the color of the fire because when certain chemicals and metals burn they give off different colors

  • @pfcande
    @pfcande 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not the only fire extinguishers used for kitchen fires. K class are also used and are a wet chemical. Also, CO2's wouldn't leave a powder behind but they're under a lot more pressure. If you're unlucky enough, you could launch that fiery death oil everywhere if you're too close. Or just generally launch hot oil everywhere.

    What if you threw the whole bottle of the Tundra into a fire.
    Would it explode, then put out the fire?

  • @Omnishredder
    @Omnishredder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's three elements that make up a fire, often called the fire triangle as each feeds the other, and that's heat, oxygen and fuel, typically a water extinguisher mainly focuses on attacking heat, foam ones prevent oxygen aiding the reaction and then the rest focus on the fuel supply through chemical composition changing

    "Aim for the base of the fire, not the top" proceeds to aim at the top of fire and puts out fire
