I am a chorister and we also sang this piece by Missa Festiwa / by John Leavitt/. The academic choir sang beautifully, 100 % professionals. I would like to thank the whole team as well as the conductor and accompanist for a wonderful musical feast.
Magnificent! I admire your performance, to be honest I listen to it quite often. We should be performing Missa Festiva in spring and so far I like your choir the best :) And I envy you how many men singers you have, it's a disaster to find men who are willing to sing in a choir! :) Cheers from Czech Repulic!
Can we just talk about how the audience was absolutely silent for 15 minutes?? Like I didn't even hear a cough, let alone anyone whispering? And I also didn't see the cue that told them they could clap at the end - like an American audience would have clapped after each song I think. Really interesting cultural differences (at least I'm assuming that's the reason)
Well, it depends. There can be only one person who starts clapping and the others get confused and start clapping as well. :) I sing in a choir here in Czech Republic and sometimes just to be sure we ask the audinece to clap at the very end.
Jake - I agree, an audience that respects the music and performers by managing not to cough. But these aren't separate "songs" but movements (parts) of a complete work and it's normal not to clap until the entire work is finished. Audiences that are familiar with classical music understand this, but "newcomers" are understandably not always aware.
I don't know about cultural differences but as an audience & singer for years from Taiwan, I would say the reason that clapping did not happen in the middle reflects the audience's understanding of classic work. Clapping after an individual song happened more often at the time when I was young, but you can now tell, that audience around you have higher understanding of what they're listening to. Which is quite satisfactory.
Magnificent! I suggest if you in the future could do again with an organ reduction like we did in our small church 9 years ago. If you want, I could send privately our performance.
The lyrics are the five ordinary parts of the Roman Catholic mass in Latin: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei (The Kyrie is old Greek, actually)
The 10-minute song track - "Poetic Waltz Grand Competition" is now turned into an MTV at: th-cam.com/video/fIK_Ri2rvis/w-d-xo.html. Your watching or playing will be appreciated. The last part of the song uses the piano. The song was composed for the author's 87th birthday. (To Lang Lang's 5th marriage anniversary.)
0:04 Kyrie
2:52 Gloria
6:12 Credo
8:26 Sanctus
11:08 Agnus Dei
Singing Sanctus in 4 days. Now I want to do the WHOLE thing. This sounded beautiful!!
