- In this video I am fixing those little errors that slipped through.
In memory of Jurgen Zoller (#iamjurgs) his friends in the Guitar Builders Collective have organised the Jurgen Zoller Honorary Challenge . A challenge to build a guitar using what you've got. Jurgs was a great guitar builder and was so supportive to amateur guitar builders like me, his sudden death was very sad. Please support his family in raising money their chosen charity by purchasing one of the fantastic T-Shirts at my-store-e04e6...

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read. Well done Dave

This is a well put together story. Lots of seemingly unconnected plot lines all come together in a very satisfying conclusion.
5.0 out of 5 stars A real page-turner

With this ingenious basis for a mystery story, D K Dickens has has come up with a plot that will keep you riveted till the last page. Unputdownable.
TH-cam comment: I've read it and really enjoyed it, a real page-turner. It's got everything, romance, gangsters, nasty big Corp, suspense all wrapped up in a great plot. You might know that a musician and guitar maker would also make a great author. Well done!

It looks great. I like the contrast between the ash and mahogany. I'm curious how it balances. Does it suffer from neck dive? The solid part of the body at the neck side should help a bit, but it's at the wrong end in terms of shifting the centre of gravity in the right direction. I guess that chunky bridge and electronics helps though.
Thank you for mentioning this. It is a bit light on the body side, hold on just waiting for scones out the oven and I’ll try it…yep it does dive is the simple answer 🤨. The guitar weighs 3kg compared to my Squire P Bass 3.6kg and I have left the neck quite thick at the nut 23mm compared to 20mm on the Squire. This is the issue with hollow body long neck basses which I guess is why you don’t see many. For me I prefer the lighter weight. Most of my playing is in my home studio but I have a strap made of leather links which doesn’t slide so much for live use. Cheers Dave
That's a beautiful looking instrument! Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers Dave
Gorgeous !!!
Thank you! Cheers Dave
A beautiful looking and sounding bass guitar Dave!
Thank you, I enjoyed that chat yesterday. Cheers Dave
That’s a great looking and sounding bass
Thank you! Cheers Dave
Dave some tea helps when you have a problem but it turnout great!
You are right on that! Cheers Dave
Time spent fishing the pots into the body is well spent. The instrument is lovely and there's no access plate needed of course. That makes it extra special. Patience - if I only had that myself :-)
Yes those pots were a little fiddly but they’re in now. Thank you for watching! Cheers Dave
Lovely design very nice! Many years ago when repairing a Gretsch hollow body guitar I discovered that electrician's earth sleeving attaches firmly if pushed onto the splines of a pot before pushing into the cavity, making it easy to pull back into place once the repair is done. My tip anyway!
Thank you! That’s a really helpful tip I can see how that would work very well. Cheers Dave
Al in all even with the difficulty with the electronics and the pickups it turned out very nive and sound really good.
Thank you! Cheers Dave
I’m glad you got it worked out! Thanks for the shoutout Dave!
It’s a mystery why something works until you put it together. That happens to me all the time too.😂
I really appreciate your help with this! That was a real mystery, no loose wires no shorts 🤔. Ah well it works now. Cheers Dave
So glad it’s worked out. 😊
That's a very nice bass Dave. Personally I have no problem with back covers on hollow bodies. It serves a practical purpose and they don't have to be plastic.
You can fit larger, high quality pots and can solder them in place with an access panel in the back.
You have a good point and a nice wooden plate looks really nice. Cheers Dave
groovy bass guitar . .
Thank you! Cheers Dave
🤘💙👍
👍
The fact that the neck pot actually broke when you tightened it suggests that it was a defective pot and it would have had to be replaced anyway. Better to get it out of the way sooner than later. What a lovely instrument, Dave. Cheers.
You are right just didn’t feel that way at the time 🤨 cheers Dave
Dave that turned out beautifully
Thank you! Cheers Dave
Finished to perfection. A masterpiece, for shore. I’ll take that over any Fender. What’s in store for us next, me ole China?
Thank you! What’s next? Mmm 🤔 I’m sure I’ll come up with something. Cheers Dave
I think i would have bricked up the door to the shed and never gone back if I'd snapped the top of a pot! Some of these days are sent to test us!
Thank goodness for a cuppa 😂
Dave, I just had a think, as you would say. One of the best influential guitarist in Britain was Hank Marvin, lead guitarist of the Shadows. How about replicating his famous red Strat? Just a thought. 😊
Funny you should mention that. I been in the workshop today with my Red Squire Strat. This is a guitar I pick up cheap on eBay a while back, the truss rod was shot to pieces and the neck was bent but I managed to fix that by stripping it down and replanning. I just changed the string and the busted truss rod came once again gave me problems. This time I just shimmed the neck - sorted. I’ve probably had enough of Red Strats but plenty of other ideas. Cheers Dave
so how much time did you spend pulling those babies in and out?
Dave, the bass looks incredible. I wish my work looked as clean as yours.
I think it took about 3 hours to solder a couple of pots 😂. Cheers Dave
Nice work Dave. Expletives deleted? :)
Thank goodness for editing! Cheers Dave
