    With Microcosm and NightSky you can pick just about any synth and trigger some random notes and get some interesting results.

    Thanks for both the amazing sounds and the timestamps. Big youtubers with millions of followers cant give us basic timestamps on an hour long video and you gave us all of them which made it easy to find the parts I wanted to go back and re listen to. I am waiting for my microcosm to ship and already saving for the nightsky, and then maybe the chase bliss mood. I feel like with some combination of those 3 pedals I could get lost for years in ambient sounds.

    Subharmonicon as "inspiration machine" - YES!!! Not easy to make it bend to your will, better to jump in, swim around and explore, but ready to capture the magic if possible. As you have done here - nice! Looks like you posted this the day after my birthday, so I'll consider it a late birthday present 🎂

    sweet coincidences galore, this beautiful soundtrack of yours evolving in perfect step with the underwater scenes of a quirky retro sci-fi film I've stumbled across on TV filling the rest of my monitor, sound muted ("The Neptune Factor" w/a bizarre cast including Ernest Borgnine and Ben Gazzara, circa early '70s.) An accidental Dark Side/Wizard of Oz sort of thing, thanks to your good sounds.

  • @MrMarcLaflamme
    @MrMarcLaflamme 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have to control the start/stop on each units independently? Doesn't the M32 start when you start the Subh? Also, thank you for re-igniting my previously faded interest in the Subharmonicon... haha. That NightSky sounds incredible too... It's amazing how important good effects are but it's hard to prioritize them over fun sound making devices...

    This is wonderful, for real!!
    Can I ask you something? i see when the low part starts you say it's the fourth oscillator for the subharmonicon but i see you're mostly moving a knob from the mother32.
    Can i ask you why?
    I love the low part and i'm looking for a synth with such a beautiful low sound from a while... so basically i want to know if it's the sub to do that or the m32, because i want to buy something with that beautiful low sound...
    thank you!

    • @JayHosking
      @JayHosking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The low parts are definitely the Subharmonicon, with the deepest bass introduced from the last oscillator around 2:30. To introduce them, I need only turn up the volume of the oscillator, which is why I don't have to spend much time fussing with them on the Subharmonicon. Hope that helps, and thanks!

    Nice deep dimensions! Beautiful.
    Question: i never understood really if it's also possible (possible of course, but if the quality is the same) to route the sound into daw and then use a vst reverb, like valhalla. Or do you think there is a problem with the latency? Or are those pedals way better for analog gear?
    Greetings.

    • @SourMoonBlues
      @SourMoonBlues 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will more or less get the same sound with way less money. Analog gear is just more fun.

    • @benoitbayol6341
      @benoitbayol6341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible.
      If you have an external soundcard like a focusrite you can connect the mono output of the mother-32 and the mono output of the subharmonicon into it via input 1 and input 2.
      Then in you DAW you create new audio tracks that are linked to input 1 and input 2 of your soundcard.
      Then you add the VSTs on your track and you can experience quite the same thing I think.
      If you have a midi controller then you can map midi cc to some VSTs parameters and you will have quite the same physical experiment.
      For the problem of latency I do not have experiments or figures that would say it is unreasonable to do it. Depends if you want to hear the raw signal of synth at the same time as output of effect I will say. (I mean outside of the dry/wet mechanism of effects)

    • @JayHosking
      @JayHosking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll introduce some latency, but not necessarily that much, and not anything that can't be easily fixed. Valhalla sounds great. Use it if it's for you! The main reason I use pedals is because they're fun and you get direct, hands-on control. But do whatever works for you! And thanks for the kind words.

    Hi Jay, lovely, I also have the subharmonicon+m32 duo and looking for some good pedals for it. What's your opinion on the nightsky? you say its unpredictable, is this a good thing? The nightsky doesnt have a delay right? did you also try adding delay to the subharmonicon or is it already so poyrythmic that its a bit 'too much'?

    • @JayHosking
      @JayHosking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unpredictable in a good way. It does not have a separate delay, although you can hear delay lines baked into the reverb algorithm. I really love the NightSky's sound. It's dark and warm and complements analog synths like the Subharmonicon well.
      I'm sure delay on the Subharmonicon would sound great, but you're right that it would get a lot busier. Best of luck!
