Viewers should note that installed pickups will read lower than uninstalled pickups (even with controls turned all the way up). Readings will be about .2 to .4 ohms lower when pickups are in the guitar because the pickups are being placed in parallel with the volume pot. As long as everybody knows that, they can adjust their readings accordingly.

Interesting that PRS neck is actually slightly hotter than the bridge. I thought modern guitar manufactures would place a hotter pickup at the bridge.

The resistance on my bridge humbucker is listed at 14.1k and I'm getting a reading of 11.6.. am I to interpret this as normal variance or is there some signal loss at play? How would I go about diagnosing this? Any help would be appreciated

First, make sure your volume and tone controls are turned to the maximum when you are checking. If that doesn’t work, check the resistance of just the pick up by touching the point where it meets your switch, and the ground basically bypassing all of your electronics. If the reading is different, then you know it is a loss in your electronics somewhere. Most likely the volume pot. If it still shows a lower resistance, then you know it is the pick up.

So if the pickup reading is the same at the ground and switch point, does it mean the pickup is just not as hot as intended or underwound and I should just either live with it or replace it?

I have always been wondering what my guitars are running for pickups. Especially now that I'm actually shopping for pickups. Thanks for this quick check ability! I just did a quick case fit comparison as well if you'd like to check it out. th-cam.com/video/ETTmCJY95BI/w-d-xo.html There aren't many if any vids on the SKB case I look at. Cheers!
