The 80s were late in Japan. :p this video feels like a ”parody” of interveiws and live performances from shows like hot wave. Visual kei band interviews looked like this during the 90s. Even early 2000 still looked like the 80s when it comes to Japan :p

Interesting! Didn't know that the 80 were belated in Japan. Thank you :)

You were way to fast with releasing this video 😂 But I watched it twice today. I just could not comment earier because I only had my mobile on me and writing comments with links and stuff is terrible - I need my computer for that sort of thing ^^'. Thank you so much, John! I could see the questionmarks in your face 😅
The new single is obviously very 80s. Kyo kept saying in interviews over the past year how he gets inspired from pop artists of the 80s at the moment . They released a number of cassette tapes last year and their latest DVD release LUXURIA had some of that retro-style imagery which made you imagine watching an old VHS tape that had already been watched so many times that the quality of the tape lessened. They actually streamed the full DVD before the release for Candis, so it seemed like a sequence. With this video they went beyond those recording techniques. For me its like they told a story about 80's sukekiyo in a way, like: How would they have been promoted if the band actually started in the 80s?
The first video you see is actually from a [punk] artist and TH-camr called ジェラスガイ坂本 [Jealous Guy Sakamoto] here is a link to his TH-cam channel
th-cam.com/channels/OyGMO6XPsGNmaMgy6TYRbA.htmlvideos [types like these were apparently very common in the 80s and early 90s for television personalities. So he is someone who tries to revive this style (and 'radical' message) and bring it into the 2020s as well with this feeling of nostalgia]
After that we see a small commercial break [I have no idea what it is for (the card reads sukenori) but they play enka music in the background and the screen tells us that sukekiyo will be on after the break]
And then we find ourselves in a quite original looking 80s music show. If you ever were to look for old Dir en grey interviews from the late 90s you would find that they didn't change much until the early 2000s. The interview and 'concert' situation is very similar, it's just the look of the studio that is a bit different. At the beginning the host says that they don't have much time so the rest of the band should already take their places/get ready. Then we have a cameo of Merry's Gara here ^^ [Merry is another older and very popular VK band, Gara and Kyo have been friends for over 2 decades. He is the guy giving the thumbs up - during the interview one of the hosts names him as the singer of COOL BOOWY, though which is another reference to a very influential band from the 80s called BOØWY].
The host than asks Kyo why people are not allowed to cheer [or make a sound] during their concerts and apparently the reason for this is "meow" 😅. Takumi answers that it just came to be that way and that it increases the tension. With that the 'interview' ends and we switch to the concert.
The voice in the off says something about their sound [I am not certain I understood it right because I don't have the technical knowledge of music production in the 80s. Something about the kind of tape they record on?] and than gives the completely useless and random information, that the singer's favorite female wrestler is BULL Nakano [she was indeed a professional wrestler (and golfer) in the 80s. I watched a few 80s shows and noticed that the random information section was a real thing. I can only imagine how Kyo thought it funny to include this because he always notes how interviewers and fans are interested (only) in the weirdest and most trivial informations concerning his personal life].
The song title might be a reference to the band Candis [th-cam.com/video/LQL81uVeidA/w-d-xo.html]. However, the name could have also been taken from a drag queen. The show itself, Kyo's dress and movements seem very much inspired from showa era pop/80s pop stars [Kyo named Akina Nakamori in interviews before]. Take a look at this live from a TV show for example [also note how the show is build up from focusing on the singer to creating a wider/more flashy image with all the people in the background etc.]
    th-cam.com/video/8vblF-4qpas/w-d-xo.html
I love how large parts of the video are filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio [original/default ratio in 35mm celluloid film] but then there is this 16:9 break where everything suddenly appears super bright and clear [filmed in HD], all in combination with the band watching their own fake 80s material on an old television - like two time streams clashing into one another ^^.
The song might have a very straight forward sound [the lyrics are not positive though and there even is a Dir en grey reference in there - but even that fits with some of 80s pop and enka music which often tackled themes of jealousy, painful love, even revenge and hate fantasies] but the video is really ambitions and feels multi-layered. I am sure I just scratched the surface of all the references made in it and the big picture they create when being looked at all at once.
Sorry for going a bit overboard with this but maybe some people will find it interesting and I would love to hear from people with a better understanding of Japan's 80s pop culture what else they found in the video and were I might have misunderstood something :)

I can absolutely relate with the whole "typing longer comments with links on a phone" thing. Hate it :D This is incredible, don't ever stop going overboard Passio! :) Read the whole thing just now at work and briefly checked all the links as well. Quite insane how many references are in this video...among other, fascinating things :) Massive respect for all this epic info - you know your stuff! Japanese music scene really feels like it's own little universe separated from the rest of the world. Always love to learn something new,so thank you! :)

Thanks for the translation! I was wondering whether or not the background actors were actually members of another band and I was right! That's so cool!

I could be wrong but the intro part feels like changing tv channels and a parody of the old 'top of the pops' style tv shows

yes and no, top of the pops is nothing compared to the music tv shows in japan, even now.

Where is PASSIO when you need him/her? :D
The video represents a music tv show. The MCs look like actual MCs from that time. I just got the idea the crazy singing guy is supposed to represent the visual kei artists, which were (my guess) seen as "barking and screeching" cross-dressers, liked only by the youngsters. The other "tv channel" is enka music or...a movie. Then there's sukekiyo - the mainstream pop? Kyo is a diva, like Akina Nakamori, but his twisted variation of it. hehe
I won't be surprised if the lyrics are about murder or something, but the music is so happy.
