A packed house here at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, as the Irish kick off their return to the ACC. Tonight Darius Mensah and the Duke Blue Devils come to town to take on the Irish on NBC College Football Saturday presented by Discover. Dan Hicks, happy to have you along with us, alongside Jason Garrett...
...the January 1997 playoff game (L 30-27) was the most heartbreaking football game of my overly-passionate-viewing life. Thank god for redemption the following season! Oh, the sweetest of sweet redemptions; January 25, 1998 will forever be a cherished date!
Yep...for those who don't know the significance of January 25, 1998, that was the date of Super Bowl XXXII. Best Super Bowl ever in my opinion, with SB MVP (no other RBs won the MVP since) Terrell Davis running for 157 yards which includes NOT PLAYING IN THE SECOND QUARTER and scoring 3 Rushing TDs (a SB record still held to this day). And don't forget "The Dive" (Elway's Helicopter spin that turned the momentum in the Broncos' favor). This song brings back memories of that wonderful day.
I never understood NBC's obsession with whimsical sounding music. At least they never screwed around with the NBA on NBC theme song. I hope the NBA returns to NBC someday just so that theme can become part of the game again!
They also used this theme if you opened up the Sunday Night Football Extra online feed prior to it going live for the Cowboys-Packers game and the Eagles-Bears game. Ironically though, this theme was not played on SNF online prior to the Steelers-Jaguars game. Although they did play it for like 30 seconds if you left the SNF online flash window open after the live feed ended. Then it stopped and it went back to this other theme they played before the feed went live.
Its like the perfect theme, its gotta xmas-y kinda theme it just screams football, sit down on the couch after a long week or day of work and just enjoy the game...
Excellent! This theme dosen't get the props it deserves. It has a legendary feel to it. When you see the highlights and hear the music, it gives you the feel that historical football events were taking place. Man I wish they would put all these themes on a CD.
That’s incorrect. The clear versions on TH-cam are actually sped up versions used for the online streams of SNF. I suggest you go look at some NBC games from the 90’s, they use this exact pitch and pace.
This takes me back to a time i wish i was in. I remember watching the NFL on NBC every Sunday at my dads house, watching the Steeler's Lake so i could play like him. Best theme and i miss it, Sundays arent the same without this theme.
agreed. and now enberg is the number 3 guy on the nfl on cbs. they seriously f'd up by moving nantz and gumbel from hosting pregame, which moved enberg to the number 3 position for football
One of the best NFL themes ever. Brings back lots of great memories from my younger days. Watching all those great NFL playoff games and one of the best Super Bowls ever where Elway finally ended his years of frustration. Has this theme ever been used in any part of sporting events, T.V. shows, movies, or anything else on television since Super Bowl XXXII?
The previous video response is of my son's team (in the white) winning on the last play. The opposing team played very well and scored with 8 seconds left, and that badgers returned the kick off for a score
Some memorable moments from the Enberg-Olsen years: The Fumble (1987 AFC Champ Game) The Drive (1986 AFC Champ Game) Browns over Jets in 2OT (1986 Divisional) Patriots breaking the Orange Bowl Hex (1985 AFC Champ Game; NE was 0 for life down in Miami until that game) Dan Marino's 1984 season The AJ Duhe game (1982 AFC Champ Game) Air Coryell vs. the Silver and Black The coldest wind chill game ever (1981 AFC Champ game, CIN vs. SD...felt like -59 degrees)
I hope they do as well. It's such an awesome theme that brings back so many great memories. It would be fitting for NBC to show some resemblance of their past given that the upcoming Super Bowl will be their first Super Bowl telecast since Super Bowl XXXII where this great theme was last used as their main theme.
Were there any graphics or introduction NBC used while they played this theme before the online NFL Sunday Night Football feed went live? Did they play the full version of this theme, or just parts of it kind like when NBC broadcast NFL games from 1995-1997 during introductions and when going to a commercial break?
Just two more days. Hopefully it will return. I'm going to make sure I catch all of the pregame in addition to the actual game and all the post-game keeping my ears and eyes open for when they might play this theme. Hopefully they will use it at least for some portion of something.
hopefully in 13 days this song returns could you imagine this music being played during the post game if the cardinals won the super bowl? This song would have a perfect feel to the Cardinals.
I wonder where this audio track comes from because the version used during the games was faster and a different pitch. the version used for the pregame in 2006 and supposedly posted on the NBC site is slightly faster and has a few parts rearranged from the broadcast version as well. Had NBC used this for more than 3 years, it would have become as well known as the Fox music or Roundball Rock (NBA).
Sharesa Griffin it sure does...I hear this and think of rod woodson getting INT's...Greg Lloyd getting sacks...And Kordell Stewart throwing to Yancy Thigpen.
this is an awesome theme song! this brings back so many memories. The one they currently have on Sunday night sounds like it was conducted by Beethoven, it's awful! Bring this one back, please!
2 more days!!!!! Hopefully they bring back this theme and 2 more days before the STEELERS WIN THE 6 PACK!!!!!! HELL YEA BABY HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree rap and hip hop is gay. But the fox theme came around the same time as this. The worst theme is the NBA on ABC and the current NFL on CBS. Those themes are gay.
yes i barely remember that i was so happy because the broncos are my favorite team. but when elway and everyone left im starting to loose interest in the broncos
I always thought this theme was way over the top and really dated. It's lovely, but it just had glory days kind of feel to it. The NBC broadcast style of the 1990s was kind of looking backward while Fox at that time had a forward-looking feel to it. The NBC theme echoed that same sentiment.
They both are under the same name FOX. Yes the Fox Enterntainment Channel has to be liberal so it can get a wider audience. But Fox News is conservative and right wing.
Gross! John Williams' theme blows this one out of the water. Heck, even the performance by Faith Hill at the start is better than this. This is so depressing.

great childhood memories are spawned from this song...like superbowl xxxvii.
Back when football was actually real! Games weren't predetermined like they're nowadays!
NBC Should use this theme at Sunday Night Football
...the January 1997 playoff game (L 30-27) was the most heartbreaking football game of my overly-passionate-viewing life.
Thank god for redemption the following season! Oh, the sweetest of sweet redemptions; January 25, 1998 will forever be a cherished date!
This is the best theme in NFL history, or, for that matter, probably televised sports history. Absolutely perfect.

i loveeeeeeeeeed this theme...one of the best ones

i love that NBC bell stuff
earliest memories of this song. afc 'ship game between jags and broncos '98 :( nostalgia
Super Bowl XXX baby. Great theme song.
They also used this theme if you opened up the Sunday Night Football Extra online feed prior to it going live for the Cowboys-Packers game and the Eagles-Bears game.

The theme of the glory days for Favre and the Packers. Such a refreshing contrast to the super-serious themes of today.
+1 This theme brings me back to my teenage days and watching all the thanksgiving day games with the family
Enberg will forever be synonymous with Super Bowl XXXII in my mind...one of the most memorable days of my life.
wow
this intro is way better than the current one on nbc
Enberg-Olsen was right up there with Summerall-Madden, we were spoiled in the 80's.

Looks like The Pitch is Shifted down by 2

Thanx for sharing this. I LOVE this theme music. Plus Dick Enberg rules as a play-by-play guy - even for the Padres...
agreed. and now enberg is the number 3 guy on the nfl on cbs. they seriously f'd up by moving nantz and gumbel from hosting pregame, which moved enberg to the number 3 position for football
NFL and NBA on NBC in the 90's, growing up in the 90's I was spoiled.
wow that was like stepping into a timewarp...i hadn't heard that theme in 10 years...great post!
sick theme
One of the best NFL themes ever. Brings back lots of great memories from my younger days. Watching all those great NFL playoff games and one of the best Super Bowls ever where Elway finally ended his years of frustration.
Has this theme ever been used in any part of sporting events, T.V. shows, movies, or anything else on television since Super Bowl XXXII?
This is epic..the sweetness of the music is so contrary to the sport of football. but that is what makes it beautiful!
Angel's in the outfield type music form edleman who composed that movie
I hope they use this theme again for Super Bowl XLIII.
They should use this theme again for Sunday Night Football.
The previous video response is of my son's team (in the white) winning on the last play. The opposing team played very well and scored with 8 seconds left, and that badgers returned the kick off for a score
Some memorable moments from the Enberg-Olsen years:
The Fumble (1987 AFC Champ Game)
The Drive (1986 AFC Champ Game)
Browns over Jets in 2OT (1986 Divisional)
Patriots breaking the Orange Bowl Hex (1985 AFC Champ Game; NE was 0 for life down in Miami until that game)
Dan Marino's 1984 season
The AJ Duhe game (1982 AFC Champ Game)
Air Coryell vs. the Silver and Black
The coldest wind chill game ever (1981 AFC Champ game, CIN vs. SD...felt like -59 degrees)
I was thinking just AFC moments, but that was great for da Bears
Those 90's Chiefs defenses were amazing. And they played on NBC quite a bit. I miss this theme
I hope they do as well. It's such an awesome theme that brings back so many great memories. It would be fitting for NBC to show some resemblance of their past given that the upcoming Super Bowl will be their first Super Bowl telecast since Super Bowl XXXII where this great theme was last used as their main theme.
Este es mi tema favorito de todos los que han existido en la NFL. Asombroso! This is my favorite theme that ever exist in the NFL. Awesome!
I heard this song when I was a little
They did during the Bears-Colts game, but oddly enough, not during the Steelers-Browns game
This should have been the theme that NBC used for Superbowl 49!
Were there any graphics or introduction NBC used while they played this theme before the online NFL Sunday Night Football feed went live?
Did they play the full version of this theme, or just parts of it kind like when NBC broadcast NFL games from 1995-1997 during introductions and when going to a commercial break?
This song plus NBC's NBA theme and CBS's old NFL theme are probably the best in sports.
Really they did? That's great. Is this the first time they used this theme for Sunday Night Football online?
Damn Faith Hill
Long live Paul Maguire
Just two more days. Hopefully it will return. I'm going to make sure I catch all of the pregame in addition to the actual game and all the post-game keeping my ears and eyes open for when they might play this theme. Hopefully they will use it at least for some portion of something.
In the beginning it sounds like the music says on nbc.
This is a cool song, I just only wish the NFL still had the AFC package on NBC.
hopefully in 13 days this song returns could you imagine this music being played during the post game if the cardinals won the super bowl? This song would have a perfect feel to the Cardinals.

Came from the NBC games. They would occasionally play this over credits.
Dick Enberg and Phill Simms were the best with NFL On NBC I miss you Guys
CLASSIC!!! REMINDS ME OF THE STEELERS OF THE '90!!!
Sharesa Griffin it sure does...I hear this and think of rod woodson getting INT's...Greg Lloyd getting sacks...And Kordell Stewart throwing to Yancy Thigpen.
The FOX NFL Sunday theme song samples from "Sleigh Ride." *lol*
I love this theme, but I wish I could find the opening theme music from NBC's French Open coverage (1993-98).... I
what was the aj duhe game what did he do
Oh I'm sorry man I was trying to click on the good comment part which means thumbs up not the bad comment thumbs down, I'm sorry okay buddy?
i mean superbowl xxxii
don't forget dick enberg did games with john brodie in 1977
I like their Wimbledon theme better.
this is an awesome theme song! this brings back so many memories. The one they currently have on Sunday night sounds like it was conducted by Beethoven, it's awful! Bring this one back, please!
The current Sunday Night theme song is done by John Williams. You may know him from the Indiana Jones and Star Wars theme songs.
Please don't tell me that was Phil Luckett flipping that coin.
Heads... tails...
bulls--- it was great for football
Hea-tails.
FOX is very liberal (Have you seen Family Guy)
You're thinking of a cable channel with FOX in its name.
2 more days!!!!! Hopefully they bring back this theme and 2 more days before the STEELERS WIN THE 6 PACK!!!!!! HELL YEA BABY HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

trumpy = Steelers hater - I have the proof!
All broadcast networks are liberal you fool.
The only exception is FOX.
Gross! John Williams' theme blows this one out of the water. Heck, even the performance by Faith Hill at the start is better than this. This is so depressing.
worst theme in the history of football. This is excellent for figure skating
NBA on NBC was soo so much better then this..whatever you wanna call this crap..
Worst NFL music EVER!
