The paradox with the friend zone is that it's not real. If she gives a guy the "lets just be friends speech" it means she just wants him as an orbiter and not a friend. The moment a friendzoned guy wants to meet up for lunch he will be swiftly rejected because she only wants him as someone she can call on for validation if she's feeling down about herself. If she's having doubts about her own worthiness she'll drop him a message and see what happens. If he replies she knows he's interested in her which in turn will "scratch the itch" for validation. Once this is achieved she will feel no desire to continue the conversation since she was never interested in the guy for anything at all. Asking out a girl for a coffee is OK initially but eventually things need to progress. As an INFJ I have almost always subjected guys to the dreaded friendzone without even thinking about it. I think guys involved with someone who has been involved in a toxic relationship may well need to accept a prolonged period in the friendzone. I said that if she doesn't want sex & romance with me anymore, I'm gonna walk. And I did. I told her I can't be friends with someone I have deep feelings for, and that I really wish her well, that I love her, and wanted the best for her, and if it doesn't work out with the other guy, to let me know. I heard through the grapevine, a few months later, that she was still with the guy. I'm genuinely happy for her, she has a heart of gold and she deserves the absolute best. But to her credit, I have to give her that: she made the 1h30 ride to come to see me, ditch me, and fuck my brains out a last final time.
