- Dark Souls III is an action role-playing game set in a third-person perspective. According to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's gameplay design "follows closely from Dark Souls II". Players are equipped with a variety of weapons including shortbows, explosives like fire bombs, greatswords and dual-wielding swords to fight against enemies, and shields that can be used to deflect an enemies' attack and protect the player from suffering damage. In addition, attacks can be evaded through dodge-rolling. Bonfires, which serve as checkpoints, also return from previous installments.
Ashes, according to Miyazaki, will play an important role in the game. Magic is also featured in the game. Each attack has two different styles. One of them is standard attack, while another provides power-ups to players, and is slightly more powerful. When performing miracles and spells, the players' magic points are consumed and decreased. In order to refilled these points, they need to consume Ash Estus Flask. There are two different Estus Flasks in the game. One of them can help refill magic points, while another refill hit points. Combat and movements were made faster and more fluid in Dark Souls III. Several players' movements, such as backstepping and swinging heavy weapons, can be performed more rapidly, allowing players to deal more damage in a short period of time.
Throughout the game, players encounter different types of enemies, each with different behaviors. Some of them change their combat pattern during battles. New combat features are introduced in Dark Souls III, including "Ready Stance", which are special abilities for players that allow them to deal much more damage to enemies than ordinary attacks are capable of. Small gravestones are also introduced. These gravestones light up when interacted with and not only serve as players' torches, but also provide additional lore to the game.
The game puts more focus on role-playing, in which the character builder is expanded and weapons are improved to provide more tactical options to players. The game features fewer maps than its predecessor Dark Souls II, but levels were interconnected and were made larger, which encourages exploration. The agility stat from Dark Souls II was removed from Dark Souls III. The game also features multiplayer elements, like the previous games in the series.

Also, I'm pretty sure that if he didn't switch forms in the press demo that was because they wanted it to be a surprise. He changes form at 50% HP, and a knight won't get him from 51% to 0 HP in one hit.

My 9 year olds favorite game! It's so fun watching him play and build his character and work through each level and the excitement of beating the last boss was the best!

Okay so I've never played a Dark Souls game before. I've never even seen gameplay. But that first boss fight has me extremely interested. Looks so fun and technical! And difficult, obviously. I've heard difficulty is Dark Souls' defining trait.

This was the first DS I ever played and I didn't find it hard in the sense that bosses were OP or had impossible move sets or anything like that the game just takes patience and after that I had a fine time and loved it. Wish I had of followed this series from the beginning

D.S. II was my first D.S. game, Bloodborne is still currently my 2nd game. Cause it's still a breath of fresh air for something SoftWare rarely does in thinking outside the familiar popular Soul Titles.

vilmiswow you ever play dark souls? let me explain. Dark Souls is a game where every time you kill an enemy, it's a victory. Every time you don't die in a close call, it's a victory, which doesn't happen very often. Every time you fight a boss, you're expected to gain information on him for a few tries and die every time until you think you know his moveset and can kill him. even then, you'll die just as much as before. WHen you can finally beat a boss, you get a bonfire and are sent to the next area, where you will enter it and there's a good chance you'll die right away or very soon, because it's a new area. I will never get that sound of what sounds like an old computer starting paired with blackness and, in big, red letters, "YOU DIED" across my screen out of my mind.
I played dark souls :D I completed 2nd part with SOTFS and half of Ds3, By sadness I thought you mean that game is not interesting

Very late starter to the series!!!
When souls came out I was in my early to mid-forties, then along came 2 and then 3. Eventually, by the time I got to my 49th B/day, I grew a pair and got 2 & 3 when on sale. Tried 3 straight off the bat and uninstalled after about 2 hours of getting humiliated at the hands of the hollowed and a further hour or so of having Gundyr crap all over me, time after time.
Recently, discovered you played Souls and started watching your walkthroughs. I am soooo glad I did, my man. Installed 2 and, by way of the cheese, I was improving fast.
So thx Cowboy for being an inspiration to an ageing gamer and reminding him that the point is not to be good but to enjoy first and the getting good comes in it's own time.

Was playing DS3 about 2 weeks ago. My 12 yr old son sits next to me.
Him: "What is THAT?"
Me: "Probably one of the best-known games for causing people to break keyboards or controllers!"
Him: "Why? Is it hard?"
Me: "It took me months to get past the first boss. Had to watch a guy on TH-cam to work out how to beat it. D'you wanna shot?"
Him: "Yeah!!"
30 minutes later, he's in Firelink Shrine. "How long did it take you to beat the first boss?"

We all suck at first. Just give it some patience and you'll get the hang of it. In Dark Souls 1 I already knew how to beat the first boss and it still took me like 15 tries.

I wish Dark Souls had more human sized bosses. I'm tired of every single damn boss being a giant. Look at Father Gasciogne in Bloodborne, coolest, most badass boss fight in a Souls game for a long time. I know I'm gonna get hate for this but whatever
Yeah but human bosses in Dark Souls 1 & 2 weren't so epic. Honestly they were some of the worst bossfights.
