  • The Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway is a tiny but quite wonderful narrow gauge line in rural Kent.
It really is a garden railway but at 304.8mm to the foot. It may be small but there's a lot to see and always a lot going on. During my visit there were 3 steamers and a diesel in operation running two train sets with a departure every 10 minutes.
The line has provided much inspiration to the 16mm community. I have a set of Andel goods wagons based on the BWLR goods train. The prototype for the 16mm Association Victory project is based here (though not running when I was there).
It's a very spacious site so even when it gets busy it never seems crowded. Once you've paid at the gate you can run on the trains all day. There's normally other things going on and it's a great place for a picnic. The café is well stocked and the cakes are brilliant.
The music (you can always mute it) is supplied by a Dutch street organ. This fantastic machine belted out tunes all day which could be heard wafting on the breeze all over the place. I couldn't resist recording some for this video.
Hope you like it and many thanks to the BWLR for a great day out.
