Man this reminds me of my dad when he was logging big river red gum trees in Australia back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. He had about 2 timber jacks. 1 was a 230 and one was a 240E. Had a Clark skidder before them. Ended up running all CAT gear but always said he never had a skidder as good as the 240E. This was nice to watch and bought back some memories! Thankyou.
I'm a third generation logger, bought my first skidder back in 1968 i was 20 years old. When your spinning and winching your not making money. Buck the tree up into logs and the TJ will pull it. If you put bear paws on the front you'll pull abouf 30% more a day. The main things is do not over load, i called it Hook'en & book'en. Be Safe
A set. of ring chains on all four tires would be like a miracle. I spent hours on a 404 timberjack, and when we put chains on her, it as like a new machine. Great video. Thanks.
This is NOT to take away from the skills and abilities of these sawyers, but to me, the REAL fun begins when we see how them thar felled trees are removed from the forest floor by killer machines and then brought to waiting trailers heading for the saw mill.
Nice work! Nice low stumps too, we gotta teach the guys on the left coast how that’s done! Imagine the millions of board feet they loose every year leaving all those 3’ stumps haha
don't us skidder's much if it's not flat ground most of it is shovel logged or yarder logged with yarder's with tube's any were from 45 to 110 feet tall and if they can use a feller buncher over a hand faller they will any day
The old saying (dont worry about the mule, load the wagon! ) i can tell ya i was overloaded on the last few tree's. Need get the 640 fixed. Dang tree's weighing more than the skidder dragging em 👍
My record pull is 7 prolly 14” logs prolly idk what 50-60 ft? I’m not sure how long one is but I’m sure You’ve got a idea. An some how I magically choked em up just perfect and all the butts was up in the air real close to the arch. Only the tips was dragging an I was skidding pretty flat ground an I was able to come back in high side . I was booking it thru there with that load. Prolly one of the most fun skids I’ve pulled. An man do I love y’all’s Detroit 😍 There the best sounding motor out there to me
I seen where u asked about clutch in notification but I cant see it so I’m replying here... yeah we bought new tranny an installed with old clutch. It was a bad call an we know it was an clutches are cheap... but it’s just hard times for us right now. Our Pete injection pump turbo an manifold went out. The skidder tranny went out. Then the dozer final drive an hydraulic drive went out. Then our kenworth injection pump went out.. all with in two weeks. So lol we just did what we had too. The clutch lasted long enough to get 4/5 loads out so now we can afford to do what we need to an get a new clutch back in Tuesday an get back at it. If it’s not to muddy 🤔
@@daniel3560 shoot man i understand how stuff goes. We always working on something. We got 4 timberjacks eli and i use mostly and in bigger timber a 640D john deere. Where eli made video of 240E we where using 640. Pulled 30 tree's and clutch went out. On a deere you lose clutch you lose hydraulics. So, couldn't steer it or raise blade, release logs, or release the parking brake. Had fix it right there. Pain in the a$$. Should have it going Monday. Size of some those tree's close 2000 feet. I don't like pulling them old jacks that hard. But had to keep going. Gotta be done by crop time. Lost month of February my as well say and 400 thousand feet left yet. Just how things go. Hang in there and keep a trying. 100 years from now we won't remember the hard times anyway! 👍
Brad Williams logging Won’t remember the hard times 😂😂 I’m dying hahaha . I know the hydraulic feeling on our timberjack it eats them splines about every 2 years or something. Replaced the spline thing twice I believe an the pump once 🤦🏻 we need to do center pins this year some time . Hopefully after pins most of the big stuff has been replaced an she hangs in there . An idk what we would do with 4 skidders . Talk about moving some wood 😳 how many dozers y’all have?
I was gonna ask what saw y’all ran 🤷🏻♂️ then I seen this video lol. The first tree when u was behind it I knew it was a Husqvarna lol then I heard it idling an I was like oh shit that’s a 95 an I know it.. most people around here won’t use em cause their “too heavy” Now If it’s steep as shit an I don’t need it I prolly won’t pack it back an forth but other than that.. I like the big saw lol. We put a 34” bar on once for a job an it pulled it just as good as it pulls the 24.. it just like to break the adjustment tool in the saw.. an man do I love y’all’s skidder. Sounds amazing dude . An nice cuts I like that 🤙🏼
Thanks man that’s all we run is 395’s cutting in the steep ground or on level ground. We sure did work on that skidder for awhile finally got it right it’s got lots of power
Eli The Logger should be a 16/17 model. I’m pretty sure we’ve put a new coil in it an switches, I’m about positive we even added a extra ground wire.. it not wanting to shut off anit a problem with me but running like it’s off sucks. Y’all ever have problems with the chain adjustment?? An that’s the only thing I hate about that saw is the damn chain screw . Can’t tell you how many times I’ve skimmed knnuckles on the dogs tryna tighten it or loosen it 😂

Hello guys . Nice vid. Nice job.👍💪 The Jack is probably older than the driver , i'm sure that's why he is treating him right.

Hi, good video, that ol mule looks like a runner! is that a greenhorn operator? aren't you allowed to cross the ditch??
Those are small logs, when I think of big trees, I think of 40inches diameter, 10ft outside diameter, then you can call it big timber
