Sir Reygan as I have seen from Nissan videos of e-power there are four components found in the front hood, 1-gasoline engine, 2-electric generator, 3-inverter and 4-electric motor. It’s not a hybrid. Hybrids usually refer to cars with an electric and ICE powertrain - a “hybrid” powertrain. The Kicks is purely an electric powertrain. The ICE charges the battery when needed which in turn powers the electric motor that drives the wheels.
Why would nissan put a 1.2L engine just for charging? Is'nt that a bit overkill? I mean could'nt they just put a motorcycle engine there just for charging? It'll be much more fuel efficient. If 1cylinder is not enough how bout twin cylinder engine found in those piaggios, that'll be enough to charge the batteries right? Correct me if i'm wrong.. it's just my observation.
A puny motorcyle engine cant run the large generator needed to charge the battery quick... And factor in energy loss from engine to generator to inverter to motor to wheels...
Thank you for the clear, honest, & precise presentation. Nissan opted for a simple hybrid system and seems likely to be more durable and reliable. A 'hybrid' vehicle is using an E-motor plus a gasoline motor combined to drive the wheels The 'E-power' is pure electric driving with an (almost) continuous running range extender gasoline motor = not a hybrid. About the many questions here, why the gasoline motor is that big : because the battery is so small (2 KWh). And those kind of small batteries like in Hybrid and E-power vehicles are using the battery capacity only between 30% to 70% state of charge. When the E-motor pulls the full 100KW, the (gross) 2 KWh and net capacity of 0.8KWh battery empty in a few second - that's why the range extender gasoline motor has to be so big and powerful : to recharge the tiny battery as fast as the E-motor is draining it.
One thing Reygan did not explained is that there is an electric generator attached to the ICE which can supplies power directly to the electric motor and also charges the battery. This is done via the installed e-power inverter in which the computer selects between battery and DC generator. The inverter can do both charging battery and powering the electric motor. This concept us similar to a solar MPPT inverter where the inverter chooses either solar energy, Meralco power or battery to provide household electricity……here nissan doesn’t need a bigger battery because it has a DC generator to support the motor.
I wish that Nissan included the ability to charge the batteries by plugging it to the socket. It makes no sense to go full electric when you are still going to emit greenhouse gases. The rationale for buying an EV is lost.
Sir, at this point, going full electric still involves pollution because of the way electricity is produced in our country. Hope more sustainable and clean ways of producing electricity will be developed..
@@markjavier5536 the power from the grid is 40% renewable. That's a significant GHG reduction. Plus you have the option to install solar panels at home.
@@strongherd You make no sense. Eh may lithium batteries din itong Nissan Kicks. What I'm only wishing is that Nissan should have included the ability to charge the battery with a power cord para di ka umaasa lang sa gasolina.
Quick question, if the ICE engine powers the electric motor and not the front wheels, why is said engine a 1.2l lump? Why not use a 1l NA engine? That would up the efficiency and save weight as well as cost. Its not like you can combine the output of the two motors.
Interesting observation, Maybe the charging efficiency of the 1.2L is better vs a 1L engine. The electric motor has an output of 134hp so the batteries always need a lot of juice to power this motor. Thus the need for a powerful charger…but I agree with you, there should be a balance on weight, power and a whole bunch of other factors.
If this car had a charging port, it would've been so much better. The reason I'm guessing why Nissan did not include it is because if they did, it would be labeled as an EV and there would be no subsidy from the government. That's probably why they can sell it at those prices because it's labeled as a hybrid. - Case in point: the Nissan Leaf starts at 2.7M
Questionable is the battery service life. You may save gas but you will have to buy or replace the battery from time to time due to charging cycles maxing out which beats the purpose. I guess it's a way for Nissan to earn more on battery services. Imagine 2.13kwh battery powering the whole vehicle.
Reygan forgot to mention that the engine is attached to an electric generator that supplies power to either charging the battery or powering directly the motor thru an inverter.
@@strongherd well you only need to use some basic analysis here on batteries life cycle. Applying basic science seems to indicate regular batttery replacement.

This is just hype. Autoindustriya did the bicol500 and the fuel consumption is close to a mirage g4 which is half of its price with low maintenance and will last longer than the kicks e-power. The battery this car for sure won't last long
With all due respect, Since we are comparing a crossover that can reach 70kph in under 5secs, and can reach top speeds of upto 170kph, to a mirage… might as well compare it to a motorcycle! Sisiw sa motor ang 20kpl, baka umabot pa 30kpl. Better yet, get a bicycle. D na need ng gas! Sobrang mura pa compared sa nissan kicks!
Hype is real. While the focus is the fuel consumption since this is a hybrid, power (and refinement) has been overlooked as a ‘hype’ feature of this car. Since the motor drives the wheels, the power is instant. That 280 Nm torque is ready with a slight tap of the accelerator. Mirage can only dream of doing that. It’s not a fair comparison. A car with the power of a 2 liter that sips fuel like a 1 liter, a refinement of an electric. In fuel economy celerio, mirage, other small engine cars may do better than the Kicks but power will not be close. CRDI diesels may be more powerful but not as refined. Turbo gas may be as refined and powerful but with turbo and transmission lag. Kicks on the other hand just have the right mix, being gasoline efficient is just a bonus. Hype is real.
The Japanese spec has color variations for the interior/ seats and a cup holder divider. I wonder why the PH version lacks those. Also, E-POWER is best used in urban setting because of the regenerative braking sobrang tipid neto for EDSA traffic. One-pedal driving pa so less stress.
The 2023 Toyota Innova got spied testing in Thai streets and in Chennai, India. The 3rd gen premium Toyota MPV will switch from body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform to monocoque, front-wheel-drive Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) Platform. If the PH-made 2nd gen Innova stopped production, the 3rd gen model will be imported from Indonesia. The next gen Innova will be a hybrid engine.
Internal combustion engine + battery packs = double the maintenance cost in the long run. You need at least 300k km to compensate for the cost of the Battery pack replacement. You want efficient car, get a Suzuki Celerio.

Well explained Bro... And Solarista's will agree more!
Then go for nissan leaf for 3m
Weh. Lithium is very toxic. Kaya huwag kang reklamador. Pasalamat ka at meron options
@@strongherd You make no sense. Eh may lithium batteries din itong Nissan Kicks. What I'm only wishing is that Nissan should have included the ability to charge the battery with a power cord para di ka umaasa lang sa gasolina.
Price of kicks?
Dumb question, may battery pa ba yan like motolite?
Yes, the 12V battery is located at the trunk.
Hello po kick Nissan good ba sa mga long distance travel
L
Meron na pong ngVlog travelling from Manila To Albay Bicol. Search nyo lang po.
The media junket drove manila-albay-manila.
Review the Toyota hiace cargo
E-power is different from hybrid, sir.
2:21 from this angle, the Kicks looks like an old school Pajero, just modernized. 🤔
Looks really tough and rugged tho. 😎
Alangan naman hindi pa questionable eh bagong bago pa nga eh. Kapareho lang nga toyota corolla hybrids. Questionable p rin
@@strongherd well you only need to use some basic analysis here on batteries life cycle. Applying basic science seems to indicate regular batttery replacement.
@@strongherd hindi na questionable ang Toyota Hybrids dahil 1999 pa may Hybrid na at 4th gen Hybrid na sila ngayon. Maski di mo rin palitan ang batterya ng kotse aandar pa rin.
@@strongherd Toyota hybrid questionable? lol
i still go for cross
Priced at 1.2 to 1.5m, i can't imagine the feelings of those who bought nissan xtrail lately. Haha. Same feeling of those who bought china made priced in the same.range. no other car except 1.6m corrola cross can match this
Good car but get a donut spare tire because road condítions here is bad.
Watching from Sulaymaniyah iraq,
So this is the vehicle classified as EREV.. Electric Range Extender Vehicle..
E-power isn't hybrid po. ☺️
Kicks is not hybrid, it is pure EV with a gas-powered charger.
So its a hybrid.
@@markimark5102 The engine that runs the car is pure EV while the generator that charges its battery is gas-powered. If it's still hard to understand then I'm done here. Thanks
@@Ssoonnyy You contradict yourself when you said "It is Pure EV with a gas powered charger". Pure EV use only electric motor to power the wheels like Tesla, Revian R1T, etc. ICE partnered with electric motor is called hybrid.
@@markimark5102 "Pure EV use only electric motor to power the wheels" -now you said it yourself. I hope that clears it up
@@Ssoonnyy Now you're just nit picking from what i've said, disregarding the whole context. Yeah. It is clear that Nissan Kicks e-power is a HYBRID, a different set up kind of HYBRID. simple google research will end this discussion. Just admit it, you are wrong.
Game Changer
Ganyan naman ang Nissan, after 3 years bigla nila ifaceout yang Kicks katulad ng ginawa nila sa Juke.
Two mistakes Nissan PH made they never bring in the Terra 2.3 Twin Turbo and the Qashqai ePower. :)
Internal combustion engine + battery packs = double the maintenance cost in the long run. You need at least 300k km to compensate for the cost of the Battery pack replacement. You want efficient car, get a Suzuki Celerio.
Awd sana
Football and not soccer.. 👍
says "kicks" but the tailgate is actually manual. lol
Not worth it...CRDI engine can do that
