    This is my favourite content ever on youtube. I know that potentially puts me on the spectrum but being able to see the best chess player who has ever lived play "live" while commenting on his thought process feels to me like the ultimate privilege. I had news yesterday that the person who taught me chess 30 years ago died in November last year. His name was Gustavo Bustamante, and he was a wonderful person in so many ways. He would have loved to watch this (even though I would have had to translate for him). I'm very sorry that he never got to see it.

      Provided you're born in a 1st world country, you live better than royalty of the middle ages. Your work is likely of stressful compared to running an entire state, you eat whenever you want, and cheaply as well. You drink when you want. Watching Deep Blue or AlphaGo vs the strongest players to have ever existed is quite literally a modern day Turk. Better still, there is no bullshit behind this Turk. You get to watch athletes play sports at your discretion. We literally live like kings.

    • @BrennenChua
      @BrennenChua 5 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Ratings aren't supposed to be compared across different servers and/or chess federations.
      Ratings, if they accurately predict results within servers or federations, mean they're working as intended.
      The ratings are also accurate if they correlate well across servers and or federations. If you are 100 points higher than me on lichess, chances are you're also 100 points higher than me on chess.com or chess24. If that's the case, then everything is working as intended.

    • @A8nton

      Well, if your rating is 100 points apart on the "higher rating" server it might only be a ~95 point difference on the "lower rating" server as the scaling what a single point means is different.

    I didn't care too much the Zugzwang final as it may happen sometimes by coincidence but what affects me is that light square bishop of black in a6. As an amatour player i would care a lot about it and would annoy me a lot a powerful piece there and would try to find a solution. But Magnus simply ignores it and going for his own plan on king side which in this case that bishop is out of play. Although a while later that bishop takes a role in a play but not in a very significant way. As a result, i think the confidence is one of the key characteristics of GMs which most of the amateur players doesn't have.

    The world champion does an excellent job expressing his conceptual strategic thinking. What's scary brainwork is while talking he's calculating lines. I wouldn't be surprised if he could give ten minutes or more commentary about any position in the game, with lines and off the cuff. I would need a week to chew over his comments. But I've only been playing at a club level for forty years.
    These kids today I hope they appreciate how fortunate those of us interested in the art and craft of chess are to listen to GM MC. Peace.

    Magnus was a bit whiny, where he says "if the opponent Queen exchanges he(Carlson) would harvest pawns and endure an agonizing / dull game". Well playing the greatest Chess player in the world is anything but agonizing OR dull. Doppelganger was trying to hang with the best, to last as long as possible, maybe win on time. This is a very minor critique. Banter was otherwise excellent.

    Can someone explain why on 5:33 black doesnt take the bishop with the pawn? Im trying to understand the game :D

    • @Mussukkasi
      @Mussukkasi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The queen would then take with Check and would proceed to check and pick up another pawn resulting in a much worse position for black.

    If Magnus ever played that line against me, then 2..e6 3 d4 d5 is about equal on the bot analysis. Of course he would pummel me with tactics, positional play and time, but matching him for 3 moves would be my magnum opus.

      Magnus explains in the video. After Qxh6+, Kg8 is forced, which leads to Qxe6+, forcing Kh8 or worse, then Bxf5, with black having a very weak pawn on d5. So Magnus takes 4 pawns for one bishop, so he's up in material and has a huge pawn imbalance in his favor

      Magnus explains in the video that black would lose too many pawns. If you play it out, it leads to black losing 4+ pawns for the bishop with a very exposed King and Magnus' pieces very active on that side of the board. Even if he didn't win immediately, he would've been able to convert that pawn imbalance into a win.
