They also have to fit loosely to allow some travel and hand deformation, or if your hand is swollen you must be able to take them off - snug fit=broken fingers in impact. The point is you must form a tight fist, for that it must be fully closed. This semi closed fist grip shown in video is nonsense as forms a weak fist. And FYI if you absolutely must use them you use them for quick hard jabs only, not hooks, uppercuts or anything flashy.
@@theviewer7262 np. I wouldn't recommend them for self defense. They are much more a wepon than a self defense tool. But if you must use them - use metal ones. The plastic ones break and shatter. And if possible stay away from spikes or any with pointy edges - the thing hits hard enough already. With the pointy ones you can either crack a skull (and end up in jail for manslaughter) or they can get caught on something and bend/break your wrist. If absolutely unavoidable - pick smooth round ones, loose finger fit, good palm rest (round one so it doesn't cut your palm), do a few super quick hard jabs and than get the hell away from there. You don't want a boxing competition, nor broken fist/wrist or maim/kill anybody. Just a few hard jabs to stun the oponent and retreat. But my recomendation - skip the thing and get 2 pepper sprays - OC based (works on anybody - regardless if drunk, druged or resistant to pain - a OC pepper spray to the face and eyes naturally close. Get 1 that sprays mist and one that sprays jet - works on anybody, you keep distance, you don't maim anybody. Pepper spray, super effective - that's why even police is using it (works even on rabid animals) :)
I personally don’t like holding them there. Could seriously damage your fingers in a fight punching like that. Also the dusters move around while you fight. It’s an unrealistic position to keep them in imo. I’d rather get the right size, holes bigger than my fingers so that there’s enough space between the duster and my finger. It should fit perfectly in the palm and that may be the only place you feel slight discomfort cause of the kickback but nothing major in that position though. This is just my
Here in Tennessee, you can have a knife that has a guard that is (let’s be 100% honest) brass knuckles. They probably put 4 rings on your 4 fingers and it would probably do the same thing.
I was a bar tender (some pretty rough places) for a few years and never saw brass knucks used for self defense, always the first punch. These are really a sucker punch tool.

@@captainrogers2542 knuckle rings are actually worse and focus all the force into your digital bones and can break them unlike brass knuckles that have a palm swell and mitigate that if they are properly fitted, the best bet would probably be a really thick marker like a xl sharpie or a wooden dowel that fits comfortably in your hand so it can reinforce your fist with the upside of being easier to argue in court

If you throw a true straight wrist punch, you would use a closed fist. You wear them over the first knuckles they will roll. You are incorrect. You want them across the flat part of the fist "face".
Lexan or composite is still better than your bare fist. It will prevent you from breaking your hand with a closed-fist punch. It can also pass through a metal detector.
