Yooo Mike! I remember watching you my first time ever 10 years ago and today I just unboxed my first fingerboard since around 2012 😮 Got myself a good ol Berlin wood
I learned years back if you want to wear the tape in faster, dab your fingers in a little water and slide across the grip back and forth for a little friction then run a lighter across real fast! it's something I've done since finding out and it works perfect to break it in! There's nothing like having grip broken in on a fresh deck ! 💪 (EDIT) Just watched the video all the way through and noticed he does the same LOL 🤦♂
Jana Klar washes her tape with soap to get a head start on wearing it in! So funny to see someone else wash their tape. I save some of my used sheets for when I try a new deck but dont want to wear in the tape 😅
Hey Mike have you ever tried 1.5mm an if so why did you or didn't you like it?.. I feel like because the way you like to wear it in I would think you would prefer it
you can if you want to, and especially if you ever want to upgrade or change your trucks out it makes it more convenient. I've seen people use leather hole punch tool to make holes on the tape before applying, or you could cut the holes after the tape is one the deck, lots of ways to do it.
Some do and some don't. I like it better without holes as it lasts longer for me, it tends to get ripped up near the holes first for me. A lot of my friends use it with the holes.
@@mikeschneider thanks for your input Mike! I’ve found that applying the grip before putting the trucks on makes the truck screws uneven on the surface, possibly due to the griptape causing the uneven surface. Next time i will try your method, trucks before griptape, to avoid the unevenness of the trucks screws!
Awsome video mike ! How could i get a g16 like this? Tie die is my favorite and the g16 is what i ride right now i live close by to ! Please let me know man ill email you or something
I still do the old hair dryer method for taking tape off lol, but I’m still wearing in the one Ellen picked out for me that looks like your top ply for my bottom ply but more red and natural towards the top of the board with g4 peppermint wheels and dynamics(but may swap to my newer BRTs) but I love it bro! G16 is the new King of boards haha. I still got the other one coming as well so it’s just cool at 23 getting back into it all. I mean I did it for years and then off and on but anyway cool video.
Been waiting on this one since 2006. Lol good video Mike.

from the GOAT himself.
I have a book I made to put my used grip in, it's nice to flip the pages and see the months of fingerboard tape, nice video!
That’s lowkey sick I just stick it on any flat surface
that's cool!
I have a wall with a bunch of them too
@@mikeschneider yoo it’s Mike!
I can't imagine walking into a room and seeing sheets upon sheets of grip, that's crazy!

need another podcast even if it’s solo
It's new for me seeing it getting washed first. Is doing it make the tape grippier?
If you watched the video he said it’s to clean it and get the layer of residue off of it
Mike what deck is that I been looking for it for forever
It’s the g16 flat face board
Whats mm?
Mike s will we ever unlock clear foam tape technology?
check out the clear ducky tape on the flatface website! it's wild
Hey Mike have you ever tried 1.5mm an if so why did you or didn't you like it?.. I feel like because the way you like to wear it in I would think you would prefer it
1.5mm is a bit too thick in my opinion
Hey Mike! Just wondering if you're using a 34 mm or a 36 mm deck
It’s 33.6 I think
33.6mm g16. this one might be a tad wider.
can you really wash your foamtape?
In fingerboarding, do we not make holes for the trucks’ hardware, like a real skateboard? Im confused

@@Clayfacer is it better to apply the trucks before putting the grip tape? Or do people put the grip tape first before adding the trucks?

The first trick I do right after a new grip is of course a kickflip nosegrind, who doesn't do that.
didn't know about washing first, but instead of scissors i like using these tiny carpenter file i bought 15 years ago?
What made you think to wash it?
He probably knows what cancerous chemicals that it’s made with
washing it helps it break in faster
"How To Re-Grip a Fingerboard"
get it off & stick a new one ... as simple as that ... saved you guys 8 fkn minutes xD

Oohhhhhhhhhhhhh
Who here remembers putting the grip close to lights so it would get grippier
Why post this now xD? You needed to tell the world about tape washing!?
