1:55 That's not just any dog, but actually one of the most popular characters in the series. Rintincan/Rantanplan is so popular he got his own spin-off series. 2:54 If you're asking yourself whether or not this game is faithful to the source material, Jolly Jumper (this horse) does this kind of thing regularly. He can even play chess!
There was a cartoon of Lucky Luke here in Canada back in the 80's. It played either on CBC or Radio Canada. I remember the song he sang... " I'm a poor lonesome cowboy..." Great memories.
Yes, that was the cartoon made by Gaumont in collaboration with Hanna/Barbera back then in the 80's... and they took the theme song from the theatrical movie “Lucky Luke” (a.k.a. Daisy Town) from 1971... really great memories!
As a huge Lucky Luke fan, this game perfectly respects the source material. The comic is still a huge thing in Europe (mostly french-speaking Europe). Originally, aimed for kids, the series kept it''s fanbase since today. It''s one of those great comics from Belgium, able to reunite it''s audience from grandfather to grandkids. As perfectly said by Snesdrunk, it''s probably the best comic adapted video game from Infogran during the 90''s.
The game brings justice to the source material outside of having a run option since it doesn't fit the character from the books (Lucky Luke, also known as "the cowboy that shoots faster than his shadow", is most of the time a relaxed guy that lets things happen) but probably was let in just in case some players would feel the game too slow. Many thanks for bringing PAL games to the channel. We, Europeans, enjoy seeing that
omg, thx for this clip. i remember playing this as a child and loved it here in germany, because i've read all the comics and this game is very true to the source material 😄. now i'm feeling nostalgic 😌
As a european I was so lucky (pun intented) to have Lucky Luke and Asterix comics to read. Both franchises made great games on almost all 8bit and 16bit consoles. It is so sad that most USA players didn't get to enjoy Lucky Luke because it is a great comic about wild west and the protagonist is so cool! I had this game back in the day and I enjoyed it so much!
Okay, so I've literally been mooching around this reality for three and a half decades WITHOUT knowing that someone made a super-stylized, beautifully-animated, Western-spoof SNES game that apparently plays like a fever dream version of "Another World?!" I feel somewhat robbed, and my eleven-year-old self is throwing a tantrum. Fantastic video.
The GBC version is composed by Alberto Jose González, one of the underrated greats of European composition. That’s all I really care about as far as Lucky Luke is concerned :P
im really happy that on pretty much every video of a licensed infogrames game from the 90s, someone is there to point out how AJG composed the game boy version. that man is a living legend and deserves the increasing recognition hes gotten for his wonderful soundtracks.
"This game has no time limit..." **Indian Camp flashbacks* Lame joke aside, this is a good game. I played the PC version. And the GBA is a total rehaul of what SNES was lacking, button layout, extra cutscenes, more mini games...
I have the Game Boy Color version of this game, and it is really cool too! there are even levels like the Train one ...gotta say...ir holds up very well !
Not only is the artstyle very faithfull, but the game looks exactly like the comics. The Lucky Luke comics are huge in Europe, specially in Belgium/France,they have been translated in over a dozen languages. They´re pretty much a lighthearted parody of classic Westerns, with very memorable characters like The Daltons,Lucky Luke´s smartass talking horse,Jolly Jumper or Rantanplan,"The dumbest dog west of the Mississipi",who even got his own spin-off comic. There are mostly 2 types of stories: a).The Daltons brake out of prison,Lucky Luke is hunting them down and hilarity ensues. and b). Lucky Luke gets involved in a story, with a historical figure from the Old West, like Jesse James,Calamity Jane,Billy the Kid etc. who are presented as parodies or he gets involved with real events like the building of the railroad, the telegraph, the discovery of oil etc. And in both cases, lots of hilarious shit is happening. The creator Morris also worked on Asterix and Iznogud, which are equally famous and funny as hell comics.
Fun fact: The Lucky Luke comic was started in 1946(!) by Morris, who wrote and drew it all by himself for a number of years until nineteen ninety eight the undertaker threw mankind off hеll in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
I used to play it quite a bit. Lucky Luke was pretty famous in Europe, I grew up watching the cartoons and read the comics, and my dad bought me this game when I was in third or fourth grade. I enjoyed it quite a bit, dug the art style, but I remember it being pretty challenging for me to grasp the whole concept of its level design. The haunted saloon level was the one that gave me lot of tinkering.
I would have love to play it back when i was a kid in the 90's. But being Canadian and this being a pal exclusive, it would've never happen back then (before emulation). Still, being familiar with the source material, i can see that they did a good good translating the comic into a game.
Hello SNESDrunk. Thank's a lot for this review. I am from germany. Someday I got it as a present. I can't remember, if it was christmas or my birthday. I received it from my mother. Unfortunately she died. But I have all the great memories. And while watching your video, I remembered the day when I got this game as a present. I could also generate the feeling I had at the moment, when I opened the wrapping paper. I didn't know, that this game existed, but I was very happy. Now I am 33 years old. And I just wanted to thank you for all the nice memories I could remember because of your great work.😄 Best greeting from Germany Sebastian

I used to love Infogrames games, I'm still collecting those games mostly for Sega consoles (Game Gear, Master System and Mega Drive but also for Game Boy and SNES), I have most of The Smurfs, Astérix, Tintin and Spirou games but I'm missing the Lucky Luke games for SNES and PSX!
I read this comic while living in Europe back in the 1980s. I enjoyed the comic and never knew of any game for it. It is in appearance well made. I enjoyed your video. New subscriber. God bless!
Never played this game, but I was a huge Lucky Luke fan back then when I was 8 - 12... and as I can see from this video this game represents the comics perfectly... I recognize most of the characters immediately, like the Daltons, Lucky Luke's horse Jolly Jumper and the dog Rantanplan... too bad it doesn’t seem to have the TV series/movie theme song “I’m a poor, lonesome cowboy”...
Nice review! During this era it looks like Infogrames was also doing a lot on portables. There's even two Game boy Color Lucky Luke games, they tend to look just as nice at least.
@@pungisotu Correct. Also Tintin, btw. Probably lesser known: Gaston (or Gaston Lagaffe) and Spirou. We have a pretty strong comic book culture over here.
I played the Gameboy version of this game back in the day and while it was largely the same game it was very limited and felt clunky. Nonetheless, I appreciate that you shout out some PAL exclusive games
I loved the comic series as a kid. Lucky Luke was quite popular here in Germany. My younger brother and I got this as a gift to Christmas as it came out. Authentic Style, good graphics and awesome gameplay. But it was quiet hard as I remember due to respawning enemys. Over all it is a good memory I have of this game though I guess I never completed it.
Wow, I gad no idea there was a Lucky Luke on SNES. The gameboy color version of this game was an absolute staple of my childhood, so much so that in my "game music" playlist all of LL's tracks are saved. By the looks of it, the GBC game appears to be a port of sorts of this SNES game.
One of the 2D games with the most realistic bullets, small and fast. I'm still surprised that Lucky Luke didn't become popular in the US. I understand that comics like Asterix or Tintin didn't become popular there due to the lack of cultural connections with the US audience but Lucky Luke was a cowboy in the Far West, there is nothing more american like that.
SNESDrunk, try to read the comics, please. Any way you can. Lucky Luke was made by Morris and Goscinny, who also wrote Asterix. Get Iznogoud, Gaston, The General, Tintin and the other Belgian blockbuster comics too. They're worth it. Even learning Dutch/French to read em.
Okay, just from it being made by the same people as Asterix has me sold. I was introduced to that series from one of the ps1/ps2 games and loved it ever since.
Goscinny didn't write Gaston nor Tintin. Gaston is from Franquin and Tintin is from Hergé. He only write for Lucky Luke, Iznogoud, Le petit Nicolas and Asterix. Also, Goscinny is from France and he's not fully Belgian. Don't spread some misinformation like that: make your researches before you write it, dude. Edit : He was also the founder for the magazine Pilote.
It's a great game and a great comic! Read it as a kid aswell as listening to the casette audio books! I guess that USA didnt get Lucky Luke, Asterix and other great comics from France and Belgium?
I'm a big fan of Lucky Luke, and I'm glad I discovered the comics and cartoon series when I did. You think Asterix is hard to come by in the States, relatively no one knows about these guys. Tintin has a bigger, well I can't exactly say presence because I can't think of a better word, but he's better recognized. That's due to having that movie, a cartoon show that was once on Nickelodeon or something in the 90's, and being more accessible. I mean, The Simpsons referenced Tintin a couple times. I think Arthur also did some parody/reference. So I checked this game out a while back, "any way I could," and I was really impressed with the overall design and presentation.
interesting how they removed his trademark cigarette from his lips, also, it is funny that his dog is called RANTANPLAN and is the opposite of ever other comic dog at the time, by being so dim witted...the daltons are claimed to be the cousins of the real dalton gangs and they are all colorblind (explains the name, daltonism) and they vary in intelligence according to height....really fun stuff....i hope u do Spirou next time or something as weird as those...maybe marsupalami ?
I've been thinking about Lucky Luke recently after not hearing about him for over a decade and now suddenly this video gets recommended to me. Coincidence? I don't think so
If you like this, check out the other Infogrames games based on comics like Smurfs (the first one), Asterix & Obelix and Tin Tin. They are all great games on SNES!
I really love Tin Tin but the games aren't that good as the rest (cartoons, books, movies) which is quite a shame seeing that each book is an amazing and unique story. Asterix & Obelix on the other hand is a masterpiece of fun.
That game does look like a lot of fun, but once he mentioned that x is the shoot that was a deal-breaker actually. X was to shoot in Super Metroid but you were able to change the controls.
