தமிழகத்தை ஆண்ட மன்னர்களில் ஆற்காடு நவாப் (Arcot Nawab) குடும்பத்தினர் முக்கியமானவர்கள். ஆற்காடு பகுதியைத் தலைநகராகக் கொண்டு, 1690 - 1800 வரை ஆட்சி செய்த இந்த நவாப் குடும்பத்தினர், தற்போது சென்னையில் வசிக்கின்றனர். சென்னையின் மையப்பகுதியான ராயப்பேட்டையில் பரந்து விரிந்து பிரமாண்டமாகக் காட்சியளிக்கிறது, ஆற்காடு நவாப் பரம்பரையின் Amir Mahal. அதில், 500-க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் வசிக்கின்றனர். 'சென்னை நகரத்துக்குள் இப்படி ஓர் அரண்மனையா?' என்று ஆச்சர்யப்படும் வகையில், பல்வேறு ஆச்சர்யங்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இந்த அரண்மனைக்கு விசிட் அடித்தோம்.

நான் சென்னையில் 25 வருடமாக இருந்தேன் ஆனால் இப்படி மஹால் இருப்பதே தெரியாது . இந்த சேனலை பார்த்த பிறகு இந்த மஹாலைப்பற்றி தெரிந்து கொண்டேன். அரண்மனையோ வீடோ இப்படி ஒரு விளக்கு ஒளியின் பிரகாசத்தை பார்த்தாலே பரவசம். அலங்காரமாக அம்சத்துடன் அரண்மனை உள்ளது. இந்தக் காலத்திலும் மன்னர் ஆட்சி இருந்தால் நன்றாகத்தான் இருக்கும். அப்போது அடிமை வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்தோம் என்று கூறுகிறார்கள். அடிமையாக வாழ்ந்ததால் இப்போது பெருமைப்படும் அளவிற்கு மன்னர்கள் அரண்மனையை கட்டி வைத்தனர். கோவில்களும் அப்படியே. கோவில்களையும் அரணமனைகளையும் இந்த காலத்தில் இப்படி கட்ட முடியுமா ஜென்மத்துக்கும் அரசியலில் இப்படி செய்ய முடியாது. சுதந்திரம் என்ற பெயரில் கும்மாளம் கூத்தும் ஒருவரையொருவர் பணத்தாலும் அரசியலாலும் வெல்ல வேண்டும் என்று நினைக்கிறார்களே தவிர இதைப்போல் மற்ற அரண்மனைகளையும் ,கோவில்களையும் புதுப்பித்தால் விசிட்டர்ஸ் அதிகம் பேர் வருவார்கள். நமது நாட்டிற்கு பெருமை தானே. மன்னர் ஆட்சி இருந்திருந்தால் எல்லோருடைய வீடுகளும் அரண்மனை தோற்றத்துடன் காணப்படும். மற்ற நாடுகள் போல நமது நாடும் சுபிக்ஷமாக இருந்திருக்கலாம்.

I lived in Triplicane area near by AMIR MAHAL. Whenever, I pass through Amir Mahal, I used to give a peep in from outside. As a small boy, I was curious to see a palace like AMIR MAHAL which I used to cross in my everyday life. From outside, it does't look very big. But, it created a curiosity as to how a palace will look like. Now, the prince has taken all of us to the guest hall which is luxurious and a treat to our eyes. I am aware that the decedents of Amir Mahal is heavily involved in philanthropic and charitable activities and have been proving a true citizens of the country. Long live prince and his family.

It's a task to maintain to a simple house. Cannot imagine how this couple and their ancestors have been able to manage the upkeep of the Mahal. kudos to them and their staff.

chennai is filled with Arcot properties and they have many business and also donated lands for churches government and even mylapore temple pond was donated by arcot
