Correction: You don't need to leave Dentistry, you just need to leave India.
It's harsh but it's true. Indian govt. has nothing to offer for its dentists. Dental councils in other countries are so well established & regulated than India. Maybe govt. thinks that oral health it's not that important!

Govt. should start dental insurance as well as enchorage dental tourism in india , and dci must fix a minimum rate for all dental procedures , which should be applicable to all private as well as govt. clinics, only then conditions wiil change....

Totally agree with this but I think the main reason for the low quality of qualified dentists is the high quota demand, days are spent running around looking for patients rather than actually focusing on learning the practicality and theory of it all. As a 3rd year dental student who keeps on thinking about quiting, this gave me alot of motivation 😊!

I feel wid d education system is Dt dey r more involved in completing d quota rather den making students learn things... quota nly causes stress to d student , one should teach d students how to Handel patients, how to do clinical work properly rather den jst completing d quote in wtever way dey can.... it's jst my personal view..

U know wats the Main issue
..salary issue of a faculty...how come an Endodontist is getting same salary as oral pathologist or community dentist..if fees structure is more for clinicals then their salary has too be more...no money to clinical faculty ..no interest in teaching and in return students with no skill vl be produced which in turn vl result in average or poor treatment hence zero patient inflow

Very good speech sir.... Getting 3k from Root Canal is not so easy... 10 Pts/week not so easy.... Pts visit dentist when the tooth condition is worse... No wall, periapical lesion... It takes a month to complete such cases... Some patients disappear after 1st sitting after paying just 500 Rs of consultation, x ray, access opening... After paying clinic rent, electricity bills, assistant charges, lab/material charges dentist is left with nothing ultimately.... Dentists having their own clinic space, dad's money for surviving initial 5-8 yrs can only sustain in this field nowadays

    • @niksindia11985
      @niksindia11985 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I also calculated like 3k x10 a month, 30 unit a month and so on back to 2010. Then mushrooming started. Free smart card came in to existence and things changed since then. apply 80:20 rule. If 80% of professionals are happy then its good. If 20% are happy then it's not good. Now look around.

    Problems facing dentistry today
1- Dental clinic is expensive to set up as compared to a general medical office set up
2- People do not value dental health and the complexities of dental sciences
3- People would rather go to cheap quacks than go to a qualified professional
4- Government apathy. They hire 50 medicine graduates but only 2 dentists. Each patient needs minimum 15-30 minutes, there are 50-100 patients waiting in queue in govt. hospitals, but there are 1-2 dentists to see all these patients
5- Too many dental colleges, but they do not have patients. So students do not get enough clinical experience.

Many of the facts which you said are true, As every one knows after passing out, a BDS graduate should properly get trained under an experienced dentist and learn the skills like patient management and other clinical skills which can build confidence, but in present competitive field of dentistry, a new dentist before clinical set up must also get himself updated with advanced courses like implants, endo,Ortho and start their career, initially it may take 2 to 3 years for patients flow, most important thing is patience and never compare yourself with neighbouring dentists

Hi, I do understand and appreciate your inputs but will like to add my two cents..
Do not pursue dentistry if( combination of one or more of the points mentioned below)
    1. You do not have financial backup or time to generate one. - if you are to be the sole earning member of the family. It is tough. Dentistry has an incubation period like other professional courses.. Be willing to grind it out or leave as soon as possible.
    2. You do not wish to go to suburbs/travel alot - Anybody who has done well academically as well as knows good work should be able to choose his/her lifestyle(which often comes from the money you earn and the place you live) . Dentistry in the present scenario diminishes the choices you can have.
    3. You do not wish to have a task of running a business- Profit is not a dirty word.. It's how the world works.. The only point is to remain ethical.
Keep in mind the number dentist will increase and so will the medicolegal cases.
What this vlog says is true but the point remains that if you compare the starting salaries and lifestyle of a person from top management college and top dental college there is no comparison.. Yes in Dentistry you can be your own master but so can you after doing management or even engineering when you have your own start up.. Dentistry has taken away the choice..
Learning in college.. Working for free to learn.. Taking cde courses to learn is all good but you need a platform(patients and clinic) to demonstrate and practice your skills and expertise.. All d best got whatever you choose.

Well said brother , all your points are correct .
The main reason for lack of patients is LACK OF GENERAL DENTAL INSURANCE . I had seen in Middle East , everyone has Dental Insurance .Patients come to a Dentist as soon as they have a Dental problem . They are not worried about the money they have to spend , as Insurance covers most of the Dental treatment costs .
In India very few people are covered by Dental Insurance and even they are Inadequately covered .The Insurance companies cover only a few treatments and what they pay for the treatments is also less

So if you’re well skilled and know your work you’ll earn well no pronouns but if you remain average don’t expect much. In India we do things just for the oay irrespective of us liking it or not. I took bds cause I was interested not because I couldn’t get mbbs, I was but I had to choose between good education and bds vs bad education but mbbs.

Dentistry will never get its due respect in India. Not in the next 50 years at least. General public treats dentists as vegetable vendors. The standard of practice is not maintained in dentistry. Discounts, 5,10,15, lifetime warranties, free check ups, etc all needs to be stopped. Dentists are making their profession to be like that of a electronics vendors. A common standard has to be maintained.

Sir, you cannot just blame it on lack of knowledge. A successful clinic requires a good relation created between the practitioner and person. Dentist who lack such interpersonal skills won't be able to make a successful career. It is a psychological aspect. Also there is so many related factors which increases the competition in the field, where the practitioners competence becomes the prime factor. You can acquire knowledge, but these skills are dependent on the individual and developing those is a very hard task. Lack of knowledge can be a factor but don't just ignore the problem as a whole.

Patient needs low cost treatment. Govt is least interested in vacancies wherever there is no dentists. In a vedio few days before honourable PM said what is the need of job for doctors, engineers and lawyers. Acc to him we all should just open our own clinics. What about those ppl who studied taking loans. Dentists are been taken granted these days. Thanx for taking stand sir.

The so called good times aren’t anywhere nearby.
India is a middle class driven country unlike western nations. So you can’t expect things to change in an overnight.
It will take time and even so not our lifetimes too.
The sooner we accept it, the better.
We can have forums where people from everywhere come together and talk on how to improve the situation.
Compulsory dental insurance is one such thing.
Multiple clinics under one roof is one.
One rate all around is another.
    Introducing Dental loans is one.
It’s high time we people come together to make things right.

The problem here in India is lack of awareness among public. There is tremendous amount of potential patients in India. But because they aren't aware about dental treatments, how important teeth and oral cavity is and how it can affect a person's overall health and wellness. Especially true in Kerala. No matter how many dental clinics are set up, no matter how many dentists comes out of college, there is always enough potential patients for us. So it is not about number of dentists or dentist capabilities. Simply indian public lack awareness. And no influencial bodies like IDA or other organisations do anything to increase awareness among public. Lack of knowledge you say? I think most dentists i know are very knowledgeable. And the new commers, obviously there will be a gap between theory and practice in the initials few years.

true sir i totally agree with your point dentistry is love starting is not good i agree your point there are lack in
    1) knowledge
    2) patience
    3) patient awareness
the most important thing is people (INCLUDING SOME DENTIST) share negative thoughts about dentistry.
i just wanna ask them that why the hell they have opened a clinic why are you cursing your bread and butter, it is such a beautiful branch without dentistry one can not imagine a GOOD HEALTH.
sir i want to add one more point that like awareness about AIDS, TB etc . govt should take steps to spread awareness about GOOD ORAL HEALTH.
AND MOST IMPORTANT HAVING STRENTGH OF AROUND 30K DENTIST PER YEAR INDIA HAVE AN ARMY OF DENTIST THAT CAN BOOM DENTAL TOURISM IN OUR COUNTRY.
