Its always irritating to have naruto as a complete and utter moron. Seriously after the war and everything he went through even he would gain some wisdom.
Honestly people should just use training trip Naruto for these fanfics- possibly post pain pre war arc. Why? 1st he isn't crazy busted. 2nd he's still learning/maturing so him being an idiot is expected and in character. 3rd well he isn't homies w kuruma so you know he still has internal struggles. Post war arc Naruto he's essentially a complete character. Sure you can have him fail stopping kaguya or lift the infinite Tsukuyomi. But it's pretty limited in all honesty. This story tries to give him PTSD but all honesty it really seems out of place. Especially since he's accepted his darkness -waterfall of truth
