Hey Don.. I've shopped at both and most times it comes down to who has what I need. That said..I prefer Lowe's as they generally have what I need. Looking forward to more progress.. take care 😁👍
So very nice to see you up and at em Don❣️ The last time I saw you, you were in bed from appendicitis. I have shopped at Lowes & Home Depot and I agree with you Don!😁 Lowe's is the place to go💚
We shop Lowe's as well. Yes their customer service is better but the veteran discount is 10% and not limited. Home Depot only values their freedom to $400/year. After $400 as a vet, you no longer get a discount. We have spent nearly $40,000 @ Lowe's this year. Home Depot just loses out.
Lowe's here in Navajo county is my go to store. Home Depot acts like you are a leper when you ask for a Vet discount. Lowe's has it on the card and always thanks me for my service. Most times they find a way to discount even further, which blows my mind. They are always Johnny on the spot, loading my pruchases into my truck (disabled vet), Home Depot personnel always act like they are too busy.
Home Depot here, told me they only give a veteran discount on Veterans Day. Lowes give’s me a veteran discount year around. Plus Lowes has veteran parking. I always use Lowes.
I used Behr ultra, not the premium, exterior paint and primer in Michigan in 2009 still looks good, has faded a little but holding up well. It will be 15 years this spring, painted it myself during the financial crises. 😮
After shopping both Home Depot and Lowes in Sierra Vista, I choose Lowes as well, for many of the same topics as you've mentioned. I still comparison shop the two, in case one store has a sale for an item I need, having to be frugal myself. Only thing that both stores failed on, is neither store had employees willing to unload and install items at my property. Guess you can't win them all.🤷🏻♂️😂🤣
Just so you know Lowes give military discount everyday…for as Home Depot only gives military discount on certain holidays not every day….we use Lowe’s because of their customer service and helpfulness ❤
I agree with you Don. Lowes is way better than Home depot! The people at Lowes are helpful, friendly, and they know their stuff! Oh, and you can find them out there on the floor. At Home Depot I have trouble finding anyone to help me. I'm in Clearwater, Florida. God bless you Don. Looking forward to the next video.
We kept our business local for as much as we could. I did utilize Lowe's Pro pricing (their quote desk) for one large order. Our local AAA Building Supply would match Lowe's pricing on most items. Thankfully, for all of our lumber needs, we have local Amish sawyers where we get our lumber milled for around 50% the cost of big box stores and the lumber is so much better as well. True dimensional rough cut, and we can have it kiln dried if necessary, as well as getting shaped lumber, etc., all for far less than commercial stuff.
We mostly shop at Lowe's, but often have to go to Home Depot for things Lowe's is out of or doesn't carry. Home Depot seems to have a better selection of plumbing supplies. ❤️🏜️
I am very happy that you shared your opinion and experience with the Lowes in your area and decided to utilize the maximum savings and help you received at Lowes. I have lived in different cities and often one can be more of a favorite than the other. I am a fan of both Lowes and Home Depot too. I have never actually delved into the specifics that you mention however, so thanks Don! Have a beautiful week and thanks for taking us along! 🥰👋👋👍👍
Lowes in Canada were bought out by Rona, a Quebec company I had problems here with Lowes a few yrs ago, but always liked Lowes in Florida over HD. Good luck on the new build Don.
While I agree with your assessments, I have a Home Depot 15 miles from from home, vs the nearest Lowe’s is 45 miles. That extra distance usually factors into my decision.
I've shopped both stores and after some bad experiences at Home Depot, and some great experiences at Lowe's..............I'm exclusively a Lowe's customer.
I usually go to Home Depot, but only because I'm used to it and used to live within 10 minutes of two(!) HD stores - half way in between them. I did hear good things about Lowe's, but haven't been in one for a long time. HD lumber quality is weird and inconsistent: I had some difficulties building a sleeping platform for my SUV. HD though carries Ryobi. I like Ryobi, Ryobi's good.
We only have an in-town Lowe's. I like the selection but our delivery charge for lumber or anything large is $79 and up. HD is 40 miles from here and their delivery charge is a flat $79 for large sized deliveries but for things that can be delivered via USPS/UPS/FedEx - those are free. HD also has great financing options occasionally. 2 to 3 years 0%. Lowe's has 5 to 7 years financing on major purchases but you pay interest. I glad you are getting the better deal where you are.
Indulge me while I get on my soapbox for a moment.📣 I've always found the Big Orange Box rather dubious.🔍 I had looked online for fence panels made of wood.🔮 On the website it said they had plenty at a mere $25 each!🙂 Yet when I arrived at the store, those $25 panels are nowhere to be found!🤨 However there were identical panels, made with the exact same dimensions and materials for $35!🤬 I got the necessary screen captions and pictures as evidence and sent it all to our state's attorney. I have had problems with Lowes but not Home Depot. I think the price for materials should drive decision, even splitting the order between them. Right now you can get $200 Lowes GC for $180 plus fuel points at Kroger.
The quality of tools are better at Lowes. Home Depot will bring in good tool brands... copy them, make them in China, then get rid of the good brand. Klein Tools just went from Home Depot over to Lowes as an example. The steel on the Home Depot garden tools deforms easily. Home Depot does have the better paint. Home Depot owns their buildings and content, Lowes is heavily leveraged.
When my credit was a little shaky Home Depot gave me a chance with their credit card, Lowes rejected me, 2 years later when my credit was 735 Lowes came with an credit card offer, I shop at both but Home Depot is my favorite
I use HD mostly because of the closeness (5-6mi). Lowe’s is nicer but 30 mi away … also use Ace and some mom pop hardware places which I get lots advise from
i agree with your choice of lowes. they shy away from political views (as they should) whereas home depot does not and they took a stance that i did not agree with (anti scriptual). lowes is my choice, hands down.............g
I'm a Lowes fan. In addition to my military discount, they don't treat customers like criminals with dinging cameras all over the place and locking everything up. Home Depot is a last resort.
For twenty three years I used to only shop at HD and would not even look at Lowes. I rebuilt a whole house Then I had three bad experiences at HD in a row on top of a few bad experiences in short succession. They practically couldn't give a s.... I haven't been back to HD and will never step in there again.
As a recently new subscriber I am really enjoying your channel and it’s content. I don’t know what’s up with the hummingbirds in Cochise county. When I was there last winter/spring it was around June late one afternoon that I had all the doors and windows opened in my van to cool it down. I was sitting in the drivers seat when a hummingbird flew in through the side door opening, hovered 2ft in from of me, then flew off.
Don, as far as the "pro" parking at HD and Lowe's, you are building your own home and developing your own land, and as a Contractor myself, I can tell you that you are also considered a "pro" and no other pro would have a problem with you using those spots as a pro yourself bud.
Don, hope you are doing well! I'm a building contractor in New Hampshire, and I own a couple of acres in Cochise county. We plan to try to get out there this coming spring to do some permit and septic stuff. We will gladly help you out with anything you may have going on at that point in time if there's anything useful we could do to help you get where you are trying to be, without spending any money on professional services. Also, let us know if there's anything I'm particular you need out there as far as building material, tools, etc that we may have laying around and could bring out. Stay well, slow and steady Don!
Good to know the differences between the two - will save me a bit of experimenting when I get down there. Here in TN, Home Depot has much better service than Lowes. Lowes wanted to deliver a dryer to me on an open bed truck in the rain!! Then I won't even go into how they ruined my woodwork when installing windows in my house.
I usually buy my lumber at Lowe’s. Sometimes one store has something that the other doesn’t. If you served you have to show your DD-214 discharge paper. Lowe’s give a 10% discount on $5,000 and Home Depot only gives a discount on $500. We are just finishing a 10 year duplex project and most of it came from Lowe’s.
I hope u use lowes I use lowes but home depot had a better deal on rockwool and I went for it and all 3 pallets were damage and homedepot didn't back it up there trash sorry that's my opinion especially when u spend 3grand ...
Love your videos. Hope you are going to put a vapor barrier down before the floor and also insulate before, standing up insulating is so much easier. I guess you know to use insulation stays to hold it in?
Around here ( East TN ) I like Home Depot better. The stores are more organized and easer to find what your looking for. Also I like Rigid power tools from Home Depot.
Mostly I go to Lowes because of the 5% discount and their employees are very friendly. Home Depot does have a broader paint and painting supplies than Lowes and Home Depot often has many miscellaneous hard-to-find items than Lowes. Lowes used to charge $126 to deliver but now has stopped delivering in my area, which is a big problem. So it's a toss up, depending on what you need.
I have noticed female Anna’s can be quite curious and sometimes just want to get a closer look. I haven’t seen females sit on the same perch nearly as regularly as males, who will be much more territorial. I’ve enjoyed learning more about my local hummingbirds. Always nice to see them in your videos.
Wow Don your a real pro now hahah good on ya your doing good job your holding out on us though how can you pic out the flooring you havent put the sub floor on yet !!!
Lowes is my ‘go to’ big box store. Sometimes they give a 10% off coupon to those with their credit card. Used one last summer to build the deck on my tiny cabin in Colorado.
Hey my fellow canuck🙋♀️🛻🇨🇦‼️🌵I am excited to say I'm coming to AZ!!!! Hubby can't come so I'm solo this trip, hauling my travel trailer like a sea snail😂😂😂. Desperate for some affordable dental so will be looking for a Mexico dental place. 🦷👀🌵
Hi Jane. I noticed on my last live you tried so hard to say hi to me but I was buried with comments and didnt get to say hi back! So belated hi and excited for you that you get to come to AZ. I highly recommend Morachis Dental in Naco. Excellent work and great prices. You can look them up online. I also show off the implant they did on an earlier video I did. All the best Jane!
I guess there is a local building supply place called "Sierra Vista Builders Supply"... maybe you could check it out sometime and do some comparison shopping with regard to price. I think they are supposed to have most of the basics that the big box stores have, but I don't know anything about their prices or delivery options.
Thanks for the info. I see Lowes has better delivery terms. I'm going to look into that. I've been going to Benson Lumber. A bit more expensive but it evens out with what I save on gas. But now having supplies delivered might change the math.
Make sure you check with Lowes on any charges that might increase because of your distance from lowes. Since I am only about 40 min away my rate is $20.00 but that is because I am part of their Pro Desk Plan also. Hope that helps.
Home Depot always loaded my 60 lb bags of concrete mostly with a smile .. but wood is often cut at 3.1/4 inch when it should be 3.1/2 inch and sides often not even and worped badly and plywood often out of stock .. in the old days the cheaper 7/16 OSB was stocked up massively but in other states .. 7.1/4 inch saw blades often out of stock
My older brother used to work at B&Q, which is the British equivalent of Home Depot. That store operated a self-drive delivery truck for large items bought from shop. This young couple bought a dishwasher, a washing machine and tumble dryer, loaded them on to the truck, and drove away. But they stayed away all day. They brought the truck back five minutes before close-down at 11 p.m., and confesses that they had moved all their furniture to a new house with the aid of…..THE TRUCK.
Cool video. 90% of my build was purchased through Home Depot. They have a ton of off grid products. I bought my Unique retro solar fridge for $1599 ( best price).
When we built our home in 2002, we ended up with a local small-chain lumber yard for the wood. We didn't have to pick through the lumber pile to get straight lumber and delivery was free. Almost all our plumbing, wiring, and flooring came from Lowes. We used Walmart for the paint. One thing you might want to do is look over the clearance/damaged section for good deals. We picked up the vanity for the bathroom for $10 bucks because it had a big scratch on one side, which was the side that had a drawer unit next to it.
I have to agree on Lowe's. Especially being a woman and doing my own renovations, I am always happy with the excellent customer service at Lowe's. Home Depot???..... NOT so much. I'm not sure if Floor & Decor is somewhere close to you, but that's where I got all my flooring material. Good prices and a huge selection. Good luck with your next project. PS: I can only recommend good knee pads when laying down flooring. (Talking from experience, LOL)
I've always gone to Lowes because they're closer to both my house and my work. When I started my current job my work gave me a Lowes card so I don't really have much experience with Home Depot at all but I've always assumed they were basically the same besides everything being blue at Lowes and orange at Home Depot. It's interesting to hear someone who has given both a fair comparison.
Don, I agree with you about Lowe's. My local Home depot is a little closer to me than Lowe's. My Lowe's is on the other side of town which is a little ways away from me. i find that the Lowe's staff is always available help me with a question or to find something. They are also a lot more knowledgeable about the products in their area. Were as my local Home Depot it is hard to find someone to help you when you need something. Also they do not even know about the products that I have questions on half the time.
My experiences with Lowe's vs Hone Depot are pretty much in line with yours. So my goto is Lowe's, but will use Home Depot if Lowe's doesn't have what I want.
That was very impressive about Lowe's and Home Depot . I have been a customer of both of those stores for years. I switch back and forth between them based on what I need to purchase and which one has the items at the best price. I too thought that Home Depot arrived on the scene first. I had no idea it was Lowe's. I remember before Home Depot there was another store for a few years... used lots of orange in there logo and advertising... it was called Homer's. When they folded Home Depot rose from the ashes. I know that was in the late 70s or early 80s. Good luck with your project.
Too bad Menards isn't in your area. I get great deals there. They're in the Midwest. Sounds like Lowes is working good for you. I'll check it out when I get to New Mexico in a few weeks. Great video and congratulations on 17K. You're growing fast.
I love having a place in Northern Minnesota and down near Tombstone. When I'm in Minnesota I can shop Menards for items as well as the other two Big Box stores.
I was helping our church with a silent auction fundraiser... Home Depot gave us a grill... Lowes gave us nothing. I now try to shop at Home Depot.
I like Lowes now that Don does, too.

Where in Navajo is a HD or Lowes? Don't think there is a single big box in Navajo.
@@Step-n-Wolf Show Low has an HD and Lowe's. Show Low is Navajo county.
@@michaeltaylor4984 brain fart. Apache County is void of big box.
@@Step-n-Wolf Depending on where you are in Apache, Gallup, NM might be closer for you. They have an HD right next to Walmart.

It's opposite where I live. My Lowe's has pathetic employees.
Excellent video. Thanks Don.
You are getting so good at these videos. I liked this one alot. Maybe one of your best.
True dimensional rough cut, and we can have it kiln dried if necessary, as well as getting shaped lumber, etc., all for far less than commercial stuff.
add a name then since most of your comment was about the Amish....

I've always found the Big Orange Box rather dubious.🔍
I had looked online for fence panels made of wood.🔮
On the website it said they had plenty at a mere $25 each!🙂
Yet when I arrived at the store, those $25 panels are nowhere to be found!🤨
However there were identical panels, made with the exact same dimensions and materials for $35!🤬
I got the necessary screen captions and pictures as evidence and sent it all to our state's attorney.
We take bait and switch very serious here.
They immediately came back with "We're sorry, but those panels that you saw for $35 are hurricane rated."
However, when I asked to what standard that they were rated to, they suddenly had no response.
Because there is none.
Blu box baby!
Thank you I didn't know that about Lowe's!!
I have had problems with Lowes but not Home Depot. I think the price for materials should drive decision, even splitting the order between them. Right now you can get $200 Lowes GC for $180 plus fuel points at Kroger.
Good idea copying the price, location, and numbers. Just watched your videos on cooking with the solar setup, awesome

Interesting! Well Dun!
Is that where you got your water tank? Or did you get that from water company?
Great question. No I got my water tank locally from Oasis Rain Water Harvesting in Sierra Vista.

Home Depot in my town once had many knowledgeable, helpful employees... but that seriously changed for the worse 5 or six years ago..
I've shopped at both Lowes and Home Depot for years. I have a tendency to shop at Lowes most often though. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I really like hearing you refer to your Big House, Big Home. Even though it's subtle I can hear the excitement in your voice.
🥰👍
Yeah, I prefer Lowes, too. They're close to Costco so it's a double header. My only complaint is, they do not have enough employees to help you.
My experiences with Lowe's vs Hone Depot are pretty much in line with yours. So my goto is Lowe's, but will use Home Depot if Lowe's doesn't have what I want.
I like real saw mills and my chain saw.
Hold on. You need a roof before a floor. Many floors are damaged by rain.
Highes or Work Terminus? That is the question.
Personal service has always got my $ especially when they show me the best buy!
We are an hour away from any store, so I feel your pain.
Interesting comparison.
Thumbs Up
