Just wanted to say thanks for doing this!
I do not care about college football at all. But am a huge Jazz fan! So I’m super for grateful for anyone still providing some Jazz content this time of year. So thanks!!

Sexton will play more than 26 minutes a game and Collier is definitely ready for some NBA minutes. Collier is literally the best defensive guard we have, sadly.

love clarkson, but he's past his prime and the mins are better given to the youths. collins should stay. bc he's a dog and that's more valuable then what clarkson brings.

Going from 55 to 59 wins isn’t the same as going from 15 to 19. I think you’re underestimating this guys.

It also depends on who you're replacing. If you're replacing a competent starter with a slightly better above average starter it's probably not going to get you 4 games. But if you're replacing, for instance, somebody who played 30 minutes and had an effect field goal % of 47% on high volume shooting, and was one of the worst defenders in the league, with someone who is a slightly above average starter, that could get you an 8 game bump pretty easily.

I have trouble understanding why Walker Kessler and John Collins couldn't play together. Sure, Collins isn't a distributor in any sense of the word, but he is a capable outside shooter. This isn't like when we had Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, and they could both only play in the paint, and if you had them both on the floor together it drew too much attention into the paint and made it so nobody could move around. John Collins is capable of pulling his defender out to the 3 point line, or punishing them if they sag off of him.

David lock is a real basketball analyst. There are lots of people pretending to be a basketball analyst like james hansen who talks really non sense.

I somewhat agree. The other so-called clickbait experts are terrible. David has knowledge he's just an immature little punk and always has been. I still watch because his knowledge outweighs his shortcomings. I've listened to David since his first SLC stint before his love affair with the Sonics.

I miss Fesenko.......My daughter met Greg Ostertag at an airport in Washington D.C 3 years ago. She said he was one of the nicest guys she ever met. We, our family, were huge fans. Just a small tale on Jazz centers. Markannen should work with the GOAT Karl Malone about post up interior one on one moves....my suggestion.

      @imnotmike 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

Malone was never a post up guy, though. He didn't play in the post. Malone was a jump shooter. His inside game was all just power and muscle and hard work and out hustling and out muscling everyone else. He didn't really have any moves. But he distinguished himself and won 2 MVPs by becoming one of the best midrange jump shooters of all time. He took more of his shots between 16 feet and the 3 point line than anyplace else on the floor, usually playing in isolation, and in his prime he was well over 50% from that distance.
He'd get the ball behind the elbow, square up on the basket with the ball in front of him low to the floor, and dare his guy to sag off him. If the guy got too close, he'd put the ball on the floor and just run the guy over with his superior size and strength. He wasn't fancy or quick. He looked awkward as hell driving. He just did one dribble and plowed to the basket, and if you tried to stop him you got hurt because he was so big and strong. People mostly moved out of the way, because 2 points wasn't worth a career altering injury. You did not want to take a charge from Karl Malone. If they double teamed him, he'd find the open guy. He was one of the best passing big men of all time. But if his guy sagged off, he'd raise up for a lightning quick jump shot, and that was his money shot.
And it's a bad shot. That's the shot you try to force the other team into taking, because most players only make that shot 35% of the time, which gives you an atrocious .7 points per shot. And when it's contested, the number is even lower. But Malone just learned to hit that shot while contested, at about 55%, for 1.1 points per shot on the worst shot on the court.
Offensively, Markkanen is way better than Malone ever was. Markkanen's moves are way better than Malones. He's got better footwork, better touch, a better handle, and a better shot. Malone only wins on passing. It's just that Malone was a workhorse. He had unmatched strength and stamina and determination. Not really stuff you can teach. Markkanen also could use to improve his passing, but I don't know that Malone is the best guy to teach that.

I do love a good Fesenko reference. Haven’t thought of that guy in a second. More recently than Raul Lopez, but still a second.

I think Colin Sexton is our second best player. I think John Collins is our 3rd best player. I'm not even sure Jordan Clarkson is our 4th best player.
edit: for the record, I said this before I got to the 2k25 rankings, which matched exactly what I was thinking.

Most underrated - I agree with them, Andre Kirilenko. Could have been an MVP. Maybe the most well rounded player in history.
Most overrated - Carlos Boozer. To be overrated people have to think you're good. Nobody thought Dante Exum was ever any good, so how is he overrated? We all kept waiting for him to get good, and he never even got to where he could play. Boozer shouldn't have even been starting. His backup Paul Millsap was better than him.
Best player - I'm fine with Stockton or Malone, but I would also probably say Stockton. Consummate professional.
Worst starter - honestly, I doubt I would remember bad starters, but Ostertag sticks in my mind as a long time impactful player who was pretty bad and started for a long time. I'm sure there are worse guys, but how do you define a starter? Start for one game? Half a season? One season? Keith McLeod wasn't really a starter. He started 79 games over 2 seasons. That's less than half of the games. For me to consider you a starter I say you have to start in at least 65 games in one season. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone worse than Ostertag who started consistently for multiple seasons.
Funniest guy - Obviously Joe Ingles, everyone agrees. Honorable mention to Fesenko, and also to George Niang.
Most potential - What exactly does this mean? Not the same as most overrated. I say Paul Millsap, or maybe Andre Kirilenko.
      Best Passer - Obviously Stockton.
Most annoying - Yeah, I'll agree with Enes Kanter, unless you count Russell Westbrook's two stints with the Jazz where he never played a single game. Donyell Marshall I also found pretty grating.
Most wasted potential - That's the one I give to Dante Exum. He was supposed to be the chosen one! Maybe Deron Williams. DW really could have been great, and was for a while. He was right there with Chris Paul. He could have easily been a hall of fame player, and all he had to do with keep playing as well as he had been playing. His fall from grace is dumbfounding.
Get this for weird fact of the day.
      Donyell Marshall 1999-2000 averages 14.2 pts 10.0 reb 2.6 ast 1.1 stl 1.1 blk
      Donyell Marshall 2000-2001 averages 13.6 pts 7.0 reb 1.6 ast 1.0 stl 1.0 blk
Ranks 9th in Most Improve Player voting that year!
Now granted, he had a huge increase in fg% that year. He scored more efficiently. But that was after coming to the Utah Jazz and playing under hard nosed Jerry Sloan, who didn't allow players to take garbage shots, and discouraged 3 point shooting in general unless you were a deadeye, and even then the team dynamic was against it.
He shot most of his shots inside that year. His 3 point shooting and free throw shooting were actually significantly down from the year before. He was just taking better shots, because Jerry Sloan insisted on taking better shots.
Basically every player who came and played under Jerry Sloan saw a huge increase in scoring efficiency.

I think those calculations could work if it's assumed that Patty Mills and Drew Eubanks have not gotten any promises of any playing time and that they don't earn any in camp 🤔
