BMW 3 Series Soft Close Boot Trunk Won’t Close or Lock E90 E92 E93

  • This is a common issue on many BMW’s with a soft-close boot. The symptoms are that you go to close the boot but the ‘close/lock’ motor doesn’t operate.
    As you drive along, you then get constant ‘boot open’ warnings as the lid bounces over road-bumps etc.
    There is a 3-wire loom that moves each time the boot is locked/unlocked. Over time, this wears and breaks, thus causing the fault.
    These 3 wires therefore need to be replaced.

    Thank you for the video the problem was exactly as you have shown. I was able to solder the 2 snapped wires and tape them up, now all is good, many thanks.

    I did this last month on my Z4 2010, I had the wires extended when they were repaired to stop it happening again
