Roberta Vinci gets frustrated at Venus Williams for the amount of time she is taking in between points during the final set tiebreak of their semifinal match at the 2015 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.

Roberta suggested to Mariana Alves, the chair umpire, that Venus should receive a time violation, however Alves did not give one out.
After the match, Vinci said in press:
"Well, of course I was nervous. After 2 hours and 30 minutes... For me maybe she was a little bit late. The chair umpire say nothing. That's why I was... But it's okay. I was nervous."

I believe that Vinci was upset because Venus took more than one minute to serve after winning a point on her serve (the rule allows only 20 sec.).
Then immediately on the next game (on Vinci's serve) she showed her frustration because Venus wasn't ready, but understandably so - the ball boys were still moving.
Vinci simply took out her frustration on Venus Williams at the wrong moment but it doesn't justify her being so rude.

For me that makes Vinci's comment sound as if it's coming from a deeper vengeful bitterness rather than just some brief period of frustration. Of course Venus got the revenge in the end.

No, she has Sjogren's syndrome which makes her more tired, but that isn't an excuse either. There are no handicaps in pro sports. Either you play within the rules or you don't play. I love Venus but she has a tendency to take too long when she's tired and it's unfair to the opponent.

The ‘clock’ starts when the umpire calls 5-3, so it’s 0:42 and Venus serves at about 1:25... so that’s clearly a time violation. By not giving that the umpire gives Venus a huge advantage because if Venus had served she probably would have lost the point

I think Vinci was really feeling herself because she'd beaten Serena to make the U.S. Open final. Plus, she was seen as the less talented of her and Errani's double's team, and then she ended up ranked higher than Sara, and with all of this success. She probably also thought that since she'd beaten Serena, Venus would be easy. She was wrong.

Some of these comments are absurd. It's a final set tiebreak of a 2.5hr+ semi-final. Her opponent took over 60 seconds to serve, nothing. Vinci didn't see the ball kid running behind her. She made a comment in the heat of the moment and it wasn't even that serious of a comment. The fact that hundreds of you believe that this is justification for calling her the names you do is infinitely worse than the very behaviour you're all condemning.

Almost 50 seconds elapsed between the end of the point and Venus's serve. That can obviously upset anyone. The umpire failed to officiate the match properly in that situation. One is unable to assess how that could affect the outcome of the match, But a lack of proper officiating should not be the contributing factor that affects the outcome. People need to put personal feelings aside and be impartial in situations such as these.
The last few points of a final set tiebreaker can be expected to take a few extra seconds.

Vinci has a right to be pissed here i think, the 25 sec rule isnt just there to move things along it's there because physical toughness and stamina is an acknowledged part of tennis and players shouldnt be taking extended periods between points to recover. What I'm noticing in the comments is that most people think Venus should have received a warning. The time rule hadn't even been implemented yet. This match was in 2015. If Vinci had a problem with it, she should have taken it up with the umpire, instead of addressing Venus.

For those unaware the rule is 20 seconds with respect to playing conditions umpires allow more time to be taken when matches are 3+ hours in extreme heat or players are dealing with injury. It's not 20 seconds and then you lose a point.

Venus took a little a little extra time between points but I also noticed Vinci was trying to quick serve Venus a few times there. Vinci even tried to hit a second serve while the ball kid was actually running on the court. That's probably why Venus decided to slow down the pace of play. All players take a little extra time between points but it's blatant gamesmanship to start a point while the ball kid is still running across the court. Venus caught on to Vinci's sneaky tactics.

nah she took incredibly long for that serve therefore like any other players should receive a time violation... Vinci was pissed why she or any other other tennis players get time violated except the william sisters... maybe serena had one once before but with venus shes doing it deliberately.. if shes tired or something was wrong with her she would call for medical time-out instead no she takes the time during the serve to disrupt the opponents rhythm ..
