I don't get how thats even a good idea. For instance that 4070 GDDR6 non-X variant being only 10 dollars less than the X card has literally no reason to exist. All this does is cause a confused consumer to buy it and think "well 4070 sucks why is everyone saying it's good?" . This misunderstanding is Nvidia's fault, not the consumers

As if big tech product naming wasn't bad enough already, prebuilt companies compound this problem by omitting SO MANY details about the parts that you're getting.
They will not tell you if their listing is "RTX 4070" if you're getting a 4070 GDDR6 or GDDR6X. They won't even bother to list the brand of 4070 you're getting, and most likely, it'll be the cheapest one they can slap in a build while still being able to stamp "4070" on it.
With how bad all this naming is, your best bet is to just Google everything you see, and compare them using results from trusted sources. The age of being able to compare CPUs by their name alone is dead.

This is so dumb for business, here's what's going to happen
Most people will not be able to tell what they are buying anymore just looking at the pc with the highest CPU number
So they will google "best laptop" and look for top 10 lists or review videos from tech channels
And those those top lists and review videos always talk about the same laptop over and over, so most people are only gonna buy those ones
Since people are only gonna buy those ones, all other manufacturers will sell a lot less laptops, and since they sell a lot less they buy a lot less CPU from Intel and AMD
So in the end this will not only hurt the consumer, but also the laptop manufacturers and Intel and AMD themselves

  • @Vaijykone

So why is this happening you may be asking? It comes down to what business is as a phenomenon. At the end of the day every business only has two objectives. 1) To maximize profits. 2) To minimize costs. The bigger the business, the more ruthlessly they pursue these objectives. What drives the requirement for profit? Growth, because if there's not profit there's no growth. And because the monetary system requires growth to continue running, here we are.
Not only that but because there is a requirement for growth, there must also be growth for that growth and growth for that growth of growth etc. That's where inflation comes from.
    It's the system.

Apple is just as bad if not worse than any other company when it comes to obfuscating performance tiers with their naming conventions. The m3 pro chips also have less memory bandwidth than the m2 pro and I believe the m1 pro as well. Sometimes information gets lost if the naming scheme is overly simplified.

I just bought a laptop. I've got 30 years of PC experience. It was a complete mess to decypher, research and figure out what CPU is currently worth buying. In the end I landed on get a zen 4 chip. Ditch everything else. So a 7x4x. Or 8x4x. The third number has to be 4. 8845hs, 7840hs etc. U for low wattage. Intel aren't great for laptops currently. Only the new Lunar Lake.

Its why people who arent tech savvy and just know it works would buy apple laptops because they know what they're getting. If they are getting the air version, they know they are getting the entry level of their laptops, if they're getting the pro version they know they're getting the high end tier of their laptops. The chip and spec configuration is easy to understand like what vex said, not necessarily mean they are valuable or apple doesnt do shady stuff but when it comes to naming their products they got it right mostly. It is also why they have a big global market share by brand shares in laptop statistics.

The reason many manufacturers stick to this naming scheme it's for marketing purposes
Why have 3 products that can be easily scrolled by on amazon when u can have 20-30 products filling the entire page

  • @Coconutgl
    @Coconutgl 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

Honestly most consumers don't care how it is naming, people care is it new released and just know bigger number = higher price = higher performance, that is, although it is not always truth but most people don't want to learn and they don't buy tech product frequently.

Thing is just like nanometer Shrinks, processor companies are running out of names as well so they resort to rebranding or reshuffling the words to make some sense or i say YOLO them names.
This got me, 7800x 3d is 8core, 7840HS is 8 core, made sense, 7840HX 12 core. then 7840U 8core then they have 7845HX with 12 core. i am confused now.
Also Apple plays with words, while amd, intel have to shove a word and number then symbol. its like making RNG password.

And this is why I don't look at names, I look at specs only. So I know what I'm buying based on specs. Applies to CPU, GPU, MB, RAM, fans and everything else.

Meteor Lake with a better looking naming scheme has way worse perfomance than Raptor Lake mobile.

As user-friendly as Apple's naming scheme may be by stating the number of cores clearly, do people actually know how many they NEED? I am a nerd who has been building PCs since the early 1990s but I can't tell how demanding Mac software actually is. So the use of such core numbers is at best half as useful as it seems.

It sucks that when I buy a GPU I need to triple check everything including the V-ram type/ amount/ speed, bus width, two types of core counts, clock speeds, etc. and that's after comparing the "series" and looking into board partners, but still before looking into the cooling/ hardware side (heat sink design, fans, connections).
I know people who RMA'd a GPU and got a slightly different card (better or worse) because even the manufacturer can't remember if it was the "X Gaming Super Slim" or the "X Gaming Super OC". It's just crazy 🤣

The cpu needs the VERSION 2 of the same socket and it's NOT COMPATIBLE with the first version. Both sockets have the SAME NAME! FCLGA1151 vs FCLGA1151 v2. Marketing people at Intel are geniuses too!
