Wedge formation in 1212 is only good for disrupting infantry formations. Even a pavise unit in shield-wall can be beaten by infantry if a cav unit charges into it first in wedge-formation, breaking the pavise formation and allowing the infantry to charge in right after. Also allows missile units an easier time of killing heavy units like pavise in shield-wall, once the formation has been disrupted by cav.
"This has been a great battle so far." - Pixelated Apollo 8:45 Not even 5 minutes into the battle and it's still considered a great battle. Cheers Apollo!
The fire lance was a gunpowder weapon that appeared in 10th century China during the Jin-Song Wars. It is considered to be a proto-gun, the predecessor of the hand cannon, and the ancestor of all firearms.
Noob975 He was brutal by that to,es standard as well. He wiped out 8 million people in a day and in a few years he essentially destroyed central Asian civilisations
UltimateToby 17 He preferred when the enemy just surrendered. He promoted people based on their skills, not on their family power. He started wars on other empires, when they killed his ambassadors. If you think about it, the population of Mongols were pretty small compared to others, but Genghis Khan still managed to create the biggest empire.
UltimateToby7 Every conqueror killed tons of people. It was kill or get killed in that time. And you can't judge a person who died centuries ago with today's morality. It wasn't kill or get killed in Hitler's time. The world was relatively peaceful, but he started the second World War. In Genghis Khan's time, there was war everywhere. I'm praising Genghis Khan, because of his tactics.
damn castille got absolutely smashed by aragon and i really thought the mongols were gonna be on the wrong side on the knife but damn those elephants talk about a wrecking ball they just smashed unit after unit love them elephants those mongol cav too did a great job
Provocateur because the mongols are long gone the mongols also didnt conscript , didnt force idealogical views and after the raids they were pretty light rulers. Hitler was fairly recent and extremely villanized by our society to the point where anything related to them is offensive
they also invented international trade religous freedom relative gender equality diplomatic immuntiy passports a mail system a travel post system that spanned continents and a sort of newspaper(source was unclear about newspaper)(source:genghis khan and the modern world)
NO BELGIUM BEST GIUM EVERYTHING THAT IS BELGIUMISH IS BELGIUM ENOUGH FLANDERS OP ofc flanders in modern day is different from flanders in that era and i like flanders/belgium because search battle of the golden spurs and i live in it i am also a meme and belgium is too durrrr hurrr derpderpderp
in my experience, if you're attacking heavy infantry, you wanna use wedge from the front to break their formation up, and from behind it doesn't matter too much but i prefer regular, it feels like the casualties register in a shorter time and have a better chance to break the enemy.
"Don't use wedge formation when charging infantry" The Macedonian Companions were some of the best cavalry of their time. They charged at infantry in a wedge formation to manoeuvre easily and penetrate the lines of infantry that they faced. If you send a line formation of cavalry against say a phalanx, it will be like hitting a brick wall unless you're using very heavy cavalry.
hey man, good video!! and btw, you should pay more attention to the text that appears under the map, you didn't notice when 2 generals died xD but good as always!
when you charge in wedge you break the formation - you get to attack the solders from the sides rather than all the front - meaning if you push your cav through it you can plant foot solders between a split unit.
Off topic but I really liked the way they did the "unit flags" in this game as icons inside of giant Flags. Made it so easy to click what you wanted. Wish that was in warhammer.
Hey Apollo, you have a video that went almost that close. It was a third age battle, it came down to one single elven cavalryman against like 4 orcs, then 3 orcs, then 2 orcs, then 1 orc, and the mounted elf finally won the battle
Hey Apollo, the Tiers in this mod don't tell you how good a unit is, it tells you which time period they are from. Tier 1 is 1200-1300 (early), Tier 2 is 1300-1400 (high) and Tier 3 is 1400-1500 (late).
The tier system doesn't really represent unit quality in the mod; It really represents era. I wish people would make more videos where they use units from just one or two tiers - otherwise it just looks odd, seeing an early 13th century knight next to a late 15th century crossbowman.
I remember two casts of yours, the Norwegian general soloing like a hundred odd soldiers from the kievan rus and winning in SS, and the last High Elf Lancer beating the last Olog Hai in third age.
The ilkhanate of Persia was ruled by one of genghis khans descendants. The mongols were commonly referred to as “a horde”, but on the contrary they were almost always outnumbered. This misconception is due to the fact that every mongol warrior had 2-3 remounts. Mongols never used elephants. Genghis Khan found them unreliable as the would break easily under arrow fire, in which the mongols excelled. He first fought elephants when fighting the shah of khwarezm. He even released a herd when he was gifted them.
the closest battle I remember was when pixie commentated in a battle based on the teutonic dlc of medieval 2, and what happened was a single cav fought with one crossbowmen and crossbowman shot the horse and only he survived.
fire lances are basicly really primitive guns. they have gunpowder in a pipe at the Top of the spear which they put projectiles on top. So they can shoot fire and shrapnel at short range.
not always tho, tiers are only rough definitions, stats decide who is better: For example, for the Kingdom of France, their tier 1 Scots Guards are much better than their tier 3 Franc-archers and Free Company Longbowmen
There was a mistake with Scots Guards, they have to be tier 3 because they are a XVth century unit, a few other units are badly assignated, it probably will be fixed soon.
The closest battle I have ever been in was a 3 vs 3 in medieval 2. Came down to like 7 artilery crew and 2 riders one of which was the general vs 7 dismounted feudal knights.
Hey guys, does any of you remember the Third Age: Total War battle where elves and orcs were on a battlefield, in which they ended up with 1 elven cav dude vs 1 troll and about 6 catapult crew orcs? The cav dude killed all of them one by one. I think this was about 2 years ago tho, maybe less
the historic context that i came upu with was that the pope organized a crusade to push out the mongols from turkey but when the cristian armies arrived at turkey catille dident wanted fight alongside his enemy Aragon so they swich sides and this is the battle
In Empire: Total War, I had a really close battle. I thought I was going to lose. It was a pretty healthy line infantry on the enemy's team and I had a depleted artillery unit. It only had 1 cannon left, I don't remember how many men, though but I know very few. The line infantry charged me, I couldn't get off a shot, like 5-10 seconds later, the line infantry broke and I won the battle. I forgot to send it in before I reset my computer. I had another game that was similar to this as well. I'm so fucking mad at myself for forgetting to send it in, although I have kept on forgetting for like 2 years now to send it in. lol
Apollo i know why they used wedge formation in real life it was for breaking through the lines cause havic among the lines. I dont how it is in the game but u know im never using the formations
Pixelated Apollo - Need help getting the Mod to work for Napoleon, believe its the dark mod or something? Tried so many different ones.... Another glorious battle to the collection! Faithful subscriber from UK!

Very close you say, anyone remember that Third Age video where there was one elf on horseback against a wounded Olog-Hai?
Hey, man. big fan. keep it up.

I don't think anyone's saying that Good Ole Genghis Khan was a saint, but you can't deny that he's an interesting figure historically.

I saw that video

for people who do not know what hammer and anvil means it means when the infantry hold the enemy in place and the cavalry charge them over and over
Its a good day when you have lunch and a new PA video.

fire lances are basicly really primitive guns. they have gunpowder in a pipe at the Top of the spear which they put projectiles on top. So they can shoot fire and shrapnel at short range.
that was awesome battle replay

That un-killable Mongol cav though XD

In this mod the tiers only refer to the time-period.
Andrei Skobtsov You don't say
Everytime the Mongols does a little better, attribute it to the elephants. Huh.

Anakin Skywalker you shouldn't waste time on games, go kill some younglings
fantastic replay, loved the outcome. long live the latin/hr empire bros!
If you have trouble keeping up with pitched battles, you should split the larger ones into parts. Like, cover one pair of fighters, then the other.
I just wanted to ask. Is this mod only for battles or for both battles and campaign?
Hey dude you didn't link the discord none of us can find it please link it
