  • Disclaimer - I do not own this piece of music I am hear to show it to people.
Olympiada was written in 1996 (rescored in 2002) to capture the human conditions of intense glory and pain that only the Olympic Games can inspire, while musically tying themes with a historic Greek feel to modern harmonies and melodies. Openig with an Olympic-style brass fanfare to set the tone, this impressive work quickly breaks into a variety of themes and settings representing athletic struggle before recapitulating the fanfare at the end. This is such an emotional piece, especially for my band, This was my last year and this was the last song at the concert that we played and for years it had been our opener for marching shows, specifically the very ending. I bawled, I and many other people whose it was their last time, music is a really extraordinary thing.

3:4 is so common in western popular music. That certainly doesn't discount it, but I get bored of it. 5/8 feels more exotic to me.

A song has lyrics. A play has stage acting with little to no music. A composition without lyrics is a piece. So this is a piece.
