We had a former band member who graduated last year pass away on St. Patrick's Day this year. The entire band program was close to her, and her death left a huge hole in our organization. We decided to dedicate this song to her memory at our concert. I have never seen or felt such emotion in a band piece. Besides it already being beautiful, our rendition of it, filled with emotion, was phenomenal. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Love you Mandy. RIP.
Loved it every time we played it in concert band! As Mr. Pierce says, "A wise man once told me that all music is either about love or pirates." This song just has so many amazing parts! Loved it all!
iv been listening to this for about an hour long.... it makes my whole day brighter and i just want to love everybody... and also i play this song in band... i play the tuba line... its such a beautiful song.
Amazing song I really enjoyed playing it with the McDonald Junior High Honors band. I was the trumpet soloist and well I loved this song. Great piece of music.
I hate the fact that I don't have a recording of my bands performance of this. Our trumpet soloist, who was a freshman at the time, became a nationally recognized soloist.
Honestly one of the best pieces i have played even though i played the suspended cymbal it was an amazing piece and by far one of my all time favorite pieces my high schools wind ensemble played
From what I've heard of Hazo, he has a very special place in his heart for a fast tempo, although he certainly shows that he isn't a one tempo composer in this piece, it moves pace around 3 or 4 times while still maintaining his own style. I enjoy this piece :)
were playing this for our spring concert i really like it but not no more:'( cause all the songs were playing for the concert my friend is picking out! and its no fair! i tell him songs we should play but noo he doesnt listen he makes me mad>:(
