You can create keyboard short cuts for Pinyin tones in Microsoft Word with no need to install any software or changes languages etc. In Word, on the menu ribbon, go to Insert>Symbol, select More Symbols, find the symbol you want, e.g. ā, then click on the button that says Shortcut Key. In the box that says "Press new shortcut key:" create the short cut you want. In my case I created the short cut Alt+a,1 (by pressing Alt, a and 1 on the keyboard) for the symbol ā, then click on the button that says Assign. Then create other shortcuts, e.g. Alt+a,2 for á., Alt+a,3 for ǎ, Alt+a,4 for à, repeating the same for the other finals... Its a bit time consuming to set up, but once done, it will always work - no need for apps or changing language etc.
I have a lot to learn still with Chinese language. I am using Duolingo since Christmas 2023. Tons of practice needed. So, I made hand notes but started to become confused with the accents. For instance ai for love and ai for short. This was totally confusing and then many others I have noticed. I have to make a comprehensive booklet with my notes now. Thank you

Three questions: 1) Is there a way to get the selection row that pops up to have larger font? 2) Why won't it find phrases for me? I can't get any things like "ren2 zi4 tou2"? 3) Why wont' it type stroke names? I can get shu, heng, dian (after a ton of searching) but not ti or na, or any stroke name with more than one word (see question #2)
How do you get the character selection bar to follow your cursor? Mine can only be anchored. What is the proper name for this typing window (so I can google it)? I mean the thing at 1:09 which shows up the characters as you type.
how to include chinese tome marking like you? type Ni Hao measn hello so, Ni have 3rd tone marking and Hao have 2 or 3rd where its is? please tell how type tone marking
This is what's driving me nuts - you only get the list of characters to select with simplified. If you set up to use traditional / pinyin, you don't get the drop down menu. It just selects characters for you. This is maddening. Does anyone have any idea how to get the little menu that opens that lets you select the characters?

Coming from typing Japanese I am so disappointed that Pinyin input forces you to type the numbers. With Japanese you can just press the space bar to select the word/hanzi you want and it's not so terrible.
The words typed in pinyin are called Chinese characters, For example: "ni hao"this is pinyin, "你好"this is hanzi. But they mean the same thing, Because you can use the pinyin input method to type it is "你好" . But it's "你好" for everyday use. Or rather, "ni hao" is a way of learning, and "你好" is A form of expression. I hope my answer will help you understand. 😉
Simplified Chinese may be used in China, but there are millions of Chinese people around the world who use Traditional Chinese. Simplified Chinese is unsophisticated not to mention ugly. You are limiting yourself if you only study Simplified Chinese.
