Ngl when I played this fight as a young kid, I didn’t really understand the full horror of Mario having his appearance, name, and body stolen and no one realizes it but Mario. Identity theft is honestly really scary if you think about it in the way Doopliss does it.

@@KalypsoLemon Actually no, Vivian is female, transgender or not, in all versions, it's just that the English and German translations were changed in order to be able to be published at an E or equivalent rating in those markets. In the Italian version, since we're bringing it up, she even bites back at her sisters by saying "I'm proud to have turned into a woman!".
Vivian is one my most favorite characters, and I love that she has a part in this song.
Honestly it'd be wrong not to include her considering this fight is the finale to her character arc

@@sdekoning2100 Vivian is initially a villain that you fight multiple times in previous chapters. Her sisters treat her poorly because they're secretly jealous of her beauty. When her sisters enact a cruel and unjust punishment on her, Mario (who just had his identity stolen) helps her out, and she is moved to help you in return. When she later finds out she's been helping Mario the whole time, the guy that she's supposed to be helping take down, she initially feels tricked and betrayed, and leaves you. But partway through the boss fight, after she's done some thinking, she decides to join you, because Mario was the only one who ever showed her kindness. It just felt awesome, while you were all alone having to fight your party, for a former enemy to have your back.
Recruitment of former enemies is one of my favorite video game tropes / cliches and I'm sad you don't see more of it nowadays.

Doopliss was one of the most unique video game bosses. While you made his theme sound just as good (if not better) with words, the gang's questioning his identity and his sudden responses are what take the non-existent cake! Though cutting a little close, (and a *little* off,) glad this is a different scene than Juno's. They almost work together!

I got to say, I really love this one! The Doopliss chapter in TTYD was always my favorite because Vivian joins you, and Doopliss is one of my favorite Paper Mario characters. I love how Doopliss has to cover up the fact he is taunting the real Mario with the whole body stealing thing, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, and Yoshi Kid start to get suspicious of Doopliss, and Vivian vowing to help Mario get his name and body back and finally finding someone who accepts her for who she is. So, needless to say, great job as usual!
I like how unlike Junos version, this one has breaks in between some of the lines.
Also is it just me or does it feel like both MOTIs version and Junos version could canonically take place in the same world, with Junos being first and MOTI being after?

I love the art, especially how Koops points out Doopliss’ strange behavior. Vivian comes on, showing their true ass kicking skills. I’m like, hey, wasn’t this one of JUNO’S songs? But it does say stolen from Juno. Goombella was just an idiot for not using her tattletale ability.
I don't think two people adding lyrics to the same song should be automatically thought as stealing (I know MOTI out right says it here, but I just mean in general). Popular video game songs can be fun to add lyrics too, and sometimes (such as FNF) the songs themselves scream "make me into lyrics". Besides, sometimes a song is so good it would be a shame to only see one person's take on it.
To be fair Goombella's tattle fails to give all the info in Doupliss the first so it could be an instance of her info leaving something out

I always adore the body snatcher trope. Where the hero's identity and body while they are in the villain's body, trying to convince his friends it's him, trying to get his body back before he fades away and I like it when friends know something is up that's just good writing there.
This chapter truely was amazing, not only for the body snatching aspect, fighting basically yourself, but for vivians arc in this, i truely felt bad for how awful the other shadow sirens treated her, if only this chapter didnt have all that damn backtracking

That’s true but I’ll say that it suits all versions since she was put down no matter what. I think all versions at least demonstrate how Mario treats her better than her sisters and gives her the respect she needs which in my opinion is the most important thing to do for people whether they are LGBTQ or not.

English, the Italian translation which outright states it AND fun fact the Japanese (where the game of course originated, being a Nintendo product) term for trans-women and crossdresser "otonoko" is the same (and is even used for gay men and lesbians, just to make it MORE confusing and convoluted!). So any translations saying she's just a crossdresser could actually be MIStranslations thanks to that.

Oh god the nostalgia… I remember watching my brothers playing this game and my favorite companion was Vivian. One of my last memories of that was this whole adventure… Mario’s name and body being stolen, him meeting Vivian, and this battle.
Also Emily Go is now my canon voice for Vivian.

That is just so catchy because it alludes to how mario knows that doopliss is using his physical image to manipulate his (mario's) friends, but at the same time mario's friends don't know they're puppets under doopliss' influence (with the exception of vivian).
I love it so much! Another Lyric adaption to one of my favourite tracks from PM2. The best Halloween Special ever! And a great Finale to Songtober.
