Urban Meyer also inherited a loaded jim tressel team not a lack luster Brady hoke team 10 wins with a qb that had no experience in his system or any of those players on the team for that matter in his first year second year there ten wins again with a call that could have went either way by the way I think it was reported that 2 or 3 of Those referees in that game were known Ohio State fans which is whatever but it helps win the refs are smiling and patting Ohio state players back when they scored check the tape 👀 and then there is last year in which he played 3 different qbs due to injury and still won 8 games and was in every game except for the penn state game where they got smoked lol me being a Michigan fan i am just fine with jim harbaugh as our coach and I don’t think he is underperforming
@@dylanspurlock6150 they are better with harbaugh but not NEARLY as better off as people thought they would be. When he entered CFB he had SO much hype. Analysts, former coaches, and many networks and Tv personalities were already calling him like the 2nd best coach in the B1G and some were even putting him top 5 in the nation. So yes. He has underachieved based on the hype and expectations of Michigan fans and most CFB fans and spokespeople when he came in. Now that being said I strongly agree that this program is better with Harbaugh than it has been the past 10 years before him. He gets them talked about, he's been close to winning the division and it's gonna happen sooner than later (this is coming from a state fan) and bottom line is. He wins. He's a winner and he's gonna EARN that hype that he gets eventually. Maybe not THIS season but eventually he will.
I completely agree with you, the conference was so strong last year, and people seem to forget that their starting quarterback got hurt, and their backup just wasn't any good. The third string was only slightly better he just didn't throw any picks but the offense was just as stagnant. I dont care what you say about urban and his back up quarterback success, their offense is deigned that the quarterback doesnt need to make decisions. As we know, backup get hot randomly and everything clicks. Cardel jones was awful when he started the season, and did you see Nick Foles preseason game against cleveland? He was awful. You can't expect a team with such a vanila offense to beat a team like Wisconsin and company. They kept all of those games close too.
Win by 11 while our scoring them 31-6 after being down and missed a FG with a RS Freshman means barely beat. Got it. Have the youngest team play against one of the oldest and come back and outscore said team 23-10 means nothing. Got it. Speight messes up his NON throwing shoulder. You people are great at moral victories.
Big Dog Sorry but Michigan wins the last two years with above average quarterback play which they now have, I also wasn’t claiming any moral victories I just don’t like the narrative that urban Meyer owns Jim Harbaugh when Dantonio has coached against Michigan better than Meyer the past three years.
Joel Klatt embarrassed Whitlock and Bucky with facts. This entire narrative that Harbaugh has underachieved is ridiculous -- he took a garbage program to two 10-win seasons and are now in position to make a CFP in only four years.
So the University of Michigan Wolverines, the winningest program in the history of college football, the Big House the fight song the tradition is a garbage program? Way to set your narrative so you can easily defend it. Harbaugh has underachieved relative to what he’s getting paid to do: win championships, you gotta understand this is the Michigan Wolverines we’re talking about here.
Nick Saban led a program in the dumps to a national title in 3 years. Harbaugh is underachieving. They are paying him an astronomical amount, so they are expecting him to at least beat OSU.
You all are stupid except for Cody. How long does a rebuild take? That's basically what Michigan was in when Harbaugh took over. Cody you can't argue with stupid. These are either Michigan State fans or Ohio fans lol. Michigan will beat both this year
I have to agree with J R. Klatt changed the subject and never did answer the question as originally posed! Klatt felt like he was talking to his kids because he argues like one! He resorts to name calling when he doesn't get his way!
Lol! I don’t want to play coulda woulda shoulda, but the OSU game 2 years ago and the MSU botched punt kept him from a college football playoff and he’s turned the program around immediately.
I hope Michigan gets good again. As a Oklahoma fan I miss some of the old school awesome football programs. Let's get Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, and Miami back into title contention. That's a awesome College Football season.

Klatt has addressed this topic several times and I appreciate each time he does as so. As we know, all the media wants to push is the controversial, hot takey, headlines. What better way than to do so with Jim Harbaugh? Michigan is a traditional power, Harbaugh isn't a milquetoast personality and they play in arguably the best division in college football. The possibility for outlandish storylines will always been in full force as long as all of these factors remain. This however, shouldn't hinder the truth that my man, Joel Klatt, continuously speaks. I know the numbers don't look all that impressive but let's actually outline the situation and understand the program Harbaugh was handed. With Rich Rodriguez, Michigan won a total of 15 games in 3 season. With Brady Hoke, 3 out 4 seasons failed to even reach 9 wins, with his last season resulting with 5 wins. In one season's difference under Jim Harbaugh, Michigan doubled its win total and was the flukiest, most heartbreaking play away from 1. Winning 11 games 2. Beating one of his rivals that A: Ended up winning the BIG that season and B: Made it to the playoffs. In year 2 his team made significant strides and was a BS spot and entire game of officiating away from playing the conference championship with a shot at the playoffs. In YEAR 2! With Wilton Speight as his quarterback, a guy he didn't recruit, nor was 80% of that team's roster. Then we go into last season with one of the most inexperienced teams and keep our head above water unlike Michigan State in 2016, Ohio State in 2011 and Nick Saban's first Alabama team that won 7 games. Man oh man, if Harbaugh ever had a 7 win season we would not hear the end of that. But just bc Coach Khaki Pants is a bit eccentric and doesn't do everything the boring, cookie cutter way, he pisses people off. People that are buffoons will then look to find any criticism they can of him and his fantastic program. Well last season was exactly that. It was last season. We told you to get your jokes in while you could. You still have 10 more days to address the 1-5 against his rivals, or blabber on how he's never finished 3rd in his division. Go ahead get it out, because once this season starts I can't guarantee you, you'll be able to get in anymore JH/Michigan fun. They're more experienced, have one of the best qb's in the BIG and by far the best JH has had at Michigan. They also have a defense that ranked 3rd in the country last season statistically that only lost one impact player in DT Maurice Hurst. Michigan will be very good this season. VERY GOOD. I won't guarantee anything, bc I usually jinx if I do, but I will say they have as good as chance as any team of winning the BIG and I'd say they probably go at least 11-1.
Comparing Harbough to Hoke and Rich Rod is comparing a 6 to a couple of 3's. Yeah its better but you're billing him as a 9 which is just not true and his record overall and against their rivals show that. Franklin has done more at Penn St than Harbaugh, has won a Big Ten, and they're in the same division, what's you're excuse- one year difference is that big of a factor but ignore how Penn State was worse off than Michigan was when Franklin took over.
I never saw him as being paid to bring instant championships to the program. I saw him as a return to the stability the fans and the program saw under Lloyd Carr. 9-10 win seasons with a top 20 defense is what I think about when I consider U of M as a program. Occasionally they drop to 8 wins if they lost considerable talent to the draft or were simply senior laden. This program watched a perennial top defense get gutted by a man who thought implementing a 3-3-5 scheme into a run heavy conference was a good idea (RichRod). It saw a dramatic shift in the offense which was only saved by Denard Robinson. The program stopped sending top offensive linemen to the NFL. It stopped developing players. I could not be happier to see a return to a tough defense, to ground and pound offense. My gripes center around his record against MSU and OSU, and a lack of consistency along the O-line. Not that he hasn't brought a B1G Championship or a NT. With the way this program performed overall for the decade or so before he arrived, its a freakin miracle to even be having this conversation.
I would not argue with you, except that when a school with such a notable history pays someone that kind of money being in that final four is expected as well as beating your most notable rivals! Not to say it won't happen but most programs want that after four or five years, so he could still get there.
All I hear are excuses, excuses, excuses. If Jim Harbaugh can't beat MSU, OSU, and don't go to Indy, he should be fighting for his job the next season.
I honestly don't think Joel had a response for Whitlock's point about how other coach's get it done without good quarterbacks. Nor his point about Khaki Pants not having actually accomplished anything like beating Ohio State or at least having a division title. And I don't even like Whitlock, but the clear message to me seems to be that just because he's better than the previous bad coach doesn't make him great.

Klatt manages to change the subject when he doesn't want to admit the truth and then insults someone when he doesn't get his way. It's no wonder he sounds like he is talking to his kids because he argues like one!
Getem klatt!!! Harbaugh has Michigan back on top with elite talent again, we haven't had that since Lloyd Carr. I give Hoke credit because he started the turn around from the Rich rod days but Harbaugh has us on a different level now. Go blue!!!
Leland Joseph “That coaching staff” went to the playoff and has 3 big ten titles, a Rose Bowl, and Cotton Bowl. Michigan hasn’t won the Big Ten in 15 years. They haven’t even won against a ranked team on the road in 12 years
We expect championships at U-M so he's sort of a disappointment at this moment for us I actually thought we got rid of Hoke too early cuz Hoke had more of Rich Rods team than his own but we'll see two years in a row where we let games get way frm us where we should of been in the POs
Great job Joel, someone needed to call out Whit(less)lock with some genuine contextual facts as opposed to trivial requirements chosen only to perpetuate an agenda to attract viewership numbers and create a controversy talking point. I hope you Klatt replaces him because he honest, knowledgeable, and unafraid to confront people who lack journalistic integrity. Jason should be embarrassed on how he handled klatts rebuttle, ashamed of his dishonest bias, and apologize to the viewers and Mr. Harbaugh for for disrespecting his ability and our intelligence as viewers. He should spend more time getting informed and less time speaking if this is how he’s going to go about things.
Joel Klatt is right! But I do think that Jim needs to win this Bigten Championship THIS YEAR. Half of the money that Michigan is paying Jim is for him NOT to go back to NFL ok. The other half is for him to win them games and build this program. Have he done that? Yes, I think now in Jim 4th year he needs and the Team needs to take a big step forward by destroying this schedule.
Hey Joel, how is Jim doing at Michigan? I'm pretty sure I mussed something here. What will it take for you to admit that Jim has been underperforming at Michigan? Truly. Heisman predictions for Patterson (didn't play a single game at M), possible B1G Ten champ. chatter and of course, the potential for a national championship appearance. I'm so glad that Jim has "fixed" little blue. I say keep it that way, it's working out very well for the rest of us. Oh, and no, they're NOT better off now. They have the $, the fans, "The Big House", the 5 star recruits etc. and they STILL can't win the meaningful games, period. Facts and reason, right ?
one thing Harbaugh has done that Hoke never came close to doing was beating Michigan State. Honestly, if it wasn't for that total fluke play in 2014, Harbaugh would have had two wins against Sparty..but hypotheticals don't count. Still...
This is the year for Harbaugh to prove he's worth the money. Every wolverine fan knows this. If Michigan doesn't win the big10 this year.... Harbaugh will be fired. But if they win the big10 .... Maybe a playoff spot...
Nobody was "objective" or "reasonable" in this discussion. Here's how such a discussion would go: *Objective Joel: "What measure are you using to judge whether a coach is overrated?" *Objective Jason: "Salary dollars plus positive social media mentions, divided by wins. Taken over a certain period and compared to the average for all coaches during the same period." *Objective Joel: "Let us look at the figures. Aha. According to your definition, Jim Harbaugh is/isn't overrated. Let's now proceed to discuss something more nuanced, like whether this figure is the best way to measure how overrated a coach is." But that's "nerd stuff," and audiences prefer empty blustering.
Lol urban Meyer's 3rd string qb is an NFL qb. His 1st string is an NFL wr and his 2nd string also is a NFL qb. Lol Speight and okorn will not be meaning any NFL team.
Harbaugh is 1-5 against his rivals MSU and OSU. He plays both this year so he could potentially be 1-7 against his rivals. There are no more excuses after this season
One of the best sports debates I’ve ever heard. Both guys brought it. Jason won though. Harbaugh won’t win a championship with Michigan. He just lost to TCU in the playoff. Pathetic
They’re better then they were with him but I feel he was expected to beat Michigan state and Ohio state more then he has cause those 2 teams are the teams the Michigan fans want them to beat every year
It’s so obvious that the only guy watching games is Klatt. If you watched those games against MSU/OSU you wouldn’t bring up his record against them because two those games were a stupid play away from being a Michigan win.
I thought last year (2018 when this was posted) was supposed to be the year Harbaugh beats OSU. He surely had enough talent. I think Urban Meyer proved he is the better coach. Harbaugh was not prepared to play OSU.
"Ohio state is talented...Michigan state is talented...Penn state is talented...it doesn't matter if Michigan loses to them they are still good!" smdh not how it works -Michigan fan
Dont worry guys, Klatt did this with Bama and Saban for 7 years, guy just recently started to backtrack on his Bama hate and even by his own admission he is now backtracking on his Bama talk
Harbaugh is overrated, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach. The narrative in Michigan was that he was the messiah and certain media personalities peg him as the best or a top 3 coach. He isn’t. He doesn’t have top coach production and he’s probably the third or fourth best coach in a stacked conference.
I'm a Buckeye fan so this feels weird to say, but Whitlocks right. These other guys just don't get it, a program like Michigan shouldn't care about hype and what might've happen, they should only care about beating Ohio State and conference titles. But hey whatever keep being mediocre Blue, more wins for Buckeye nation lol. Good job Bucky and Whitlock.
Harbaugh didn't "turn Stanford around". Luck was just an outlier QB (ask David Shaw). And then Baalke HANDED him a playoff roster. And how is Shae Patterson who's 4-6 as a starter the best QB in the conference? He beat vanderbilt, UT martin and south alabama...
Leland Joseph definitely not a casual fan been watching since you was swimming in ya daddy's nut sack. Michigan is elite and should be in competition for National titles not jus big ten titles. They can't win either so what do you call that??????? UNDERPERFORMING!!!!!!
No, he hasn't "turned the program around." They still can't beat Michigan State, they still can't beat Ohio State, they still aren't playing for the big ten, they still lose bowl games, and they still rely on excuses and "wait till next year." Being a few wins better than Brady Hoke doesn't make you great and there's no participation trophy for almost beating your rivals.
Uh we beat Michigan state in East Lansing in 2016 we were a bothed punt away from beating state in 2015 We had the worst qb in the big ten last year threw 5 picks and only lost by 4 Litteraly the only reason we havent owned state is because of dumb mistakes and turnovers
You beat a 3-9 Michigan State team, don't bank on them being that bad anytime soon. And I could care less how close you came to beating them in 2015 or how close the 2017 game was, you lost, end of story. Again, there are no participation trophies for almost winning and excuses don't make up for losses.
Will Michigan win the Big Ten?

This proves everything that Harbaugh should be canned. He is not living up to the hype.
One of my favourite episodes 😂
"Now its like im playjng cards with my brothers kids" lmao
Klatt manages to change the subject when he doesn't want to admit the truth and then insults someone when he doesn't get his way. It's no wonder he sounds like he is talking to his kids because he argues like one!
Whitlock once again shows he just is not intelligent when talking sports ever he focuses on 1 thing and that’s it never sees the whole picture
@J R no because whitlock is trash
Harbaugh is in a conference with URBAN MEYER. Who maybe the best college football coach ever not named Nick Saban.
Getem klatt!!! Harbaugh has Michigan back on top with elite talent again, we haven't had that since Lloyd Carr. I give Hoke credit because he started the turn around from the Rich rod days but Harbaugh has us on a different level now. Go blue!!!
I'm w Joel. If they let Harbaugh go, they'll regret it.
Joel Klatt is the GOAT
Harbaugh might have the best job security of any head coach in the country. Ann Arbor LOVES JH!!
0 wins verse Ohio State says everything you need to know
He's a good coach but relative to his hype and pay he is underachieving
I love Joel klatt now
GET HIM KLATT!! withlock is wrong on this one
Joel is right. Harbaugh has done everything he can, and Michigan is as good as they can ever possibly be.
wrong
Joel finally bringing some objectivity to the media dumpster thank god for him
Joel is awesome haha
If Michigan had reliable and experienced offensive tackle situation, then yes.
Joel Klatt was in savage mode during this segment lmao
He should have 2 wins vs MSU
Matt TheDestroyer 2 but he don’t go green
Leland Joseph “That coaching staff” went to the playoff and has 3 big ten titles, a Rose Bowl, and Cotton Bowl. Michigan hasn’t won the Big Ten in 15 years. They haven’t even won against a ranked team on the road in 12 years
We expect championships at U-M so he's sort of a disappointment at this moment for us I actually thought we got rid of Hoke too early cuz Hoke had more of Rich Rods team than his own but we'll see two years in a row where we let games get way frm us where we should of been in the POs
Danny Bo Michigan hasn't won a championship since 1997. Where do you come off saying you expect a championship?
@@bgpeters22 ask most people, michigan is one of those programs u expect championships
Only thing Fatlock I agree with!!! Good job
Jason should have said "Shut up pretty boy"
Now Michigan is 9-1 and 1st in the B10
Sooo how many time does Harbaugh have to loose before they make a change ?
I love it when latt destroys fools.
Klatt is a goat
You can’t compare greatness to mediocrity
OK, Jason, Harbaugh needs to win this season, but Harbaugh has been better than Brady Hoke. Much better than Brady Hoke.
Hoke has like 3 less wins at this point compared to Harbaugh, correct?
Joel Klatt is right! But I do think that Jim needs to win this Bigten Championship THIS YEAR. Half of the money that Michigan is paying Jim is for him NOT to go back to NFL ok. The other half is for him to win them games and build this program. Have he done that? Yes, I think now in Jim 4th year he needs and the Team needs to take a big step forward by destroying this schedule.
Brady Hoke winning percentage at Michigan: .608
Jim Harbaugh winning percentage at michigan: .718
Bias, stupid, unreasonable are some ways to describe Whitlock’s discussion on Jim harbaugh
one thing Harbaugh has done that Hoke never came close to doing was beating Michigan State.
Here's how such a discussion would go:
*Objective Joel: "What measure are you using to judge whether a coach is overrated?"
*Objective Jason: "Salary dollars plus positive social media mentions, divided by wins. Taken over a certain period and compared to the average for all coaches during the same period."
*Objective Joel: "Let us look at the figures. Aha. According to your definition, Jim Harbaugh is/isn't overrated. Let's now proceed to discuss something more nuanced, like whether this figure is the best way to measure how overrated a coach is."
But that's "nerd stuff," and audiences prefer empty blustering.
Pathetic
Whitlock is nauseating
Living in Michigan I can tell you that all the talk around town is that if Harbaugh can’t get it done this year, he’s overrated
Joel Klatt is such a gangster
They’re better then they were with him but I feel he was expected to beat Michigan state and Ohio state more then he has cause those 2 teams are the teams the Michigan fans want them to beat every year
The championships will happen and that's what the Haters are afraid of.
Shay Patterson, better than Trace Mcsorley🤔
"Ohio state is talented...Michigan state is talented...Penn state is talented...it doesn't matter if Michigan loses to them they are still good!" smdh not how it works
-Michigan fan
Joel it's Michigan. If they don't have offensive tackles. Go get them. Stop the bragging and coach.
never in 60 years.
Dont worry guys, Klatt did this with Bama and Saban for 7 years, guy just recently started to backtrack on his Bama hate and even by his own admission he is now backtracking on his Bama talk
I think Michigan goes 10-2 with the losses coming from Ohio St & Wisconsin
Klatt just destroys people.
Don’t forget those 3 picks vs 5-7 Cal lmaoo
No conference titles, no national titles, 11 losses in 3 years= under performed
Uh we beat Michigan state in East Lansing in 2016 we were a bothed punt away from beating state in 2015
We had the worst qb in the big ten last year threw 5 picks and only lost by 4
Litteraly the only reason we havent owned state is because of dumb mistakes and turnovers
You beat a 3-9 Michigan State team, don't bank on them being that bad anytime soon. And I could care less how close you came to beating them in 2015 or how close the 2017 game was, you lost, end of story. Again, there are no participation trophies for almost winning and excuses don't make up for losses.
The only thing Whitlock should comment on is cheeseburgers
Joel Klatt want all the smoke
If I need a college program fixed and turned around, i'll call Nick Saban...
Joel Klatt weighs in on Jim Harbaugh’s lack of success at Michigan****
How many bowl games Jim Harbaugh win since being back
That's the most stupid metric imaginable for measuring a coach's value. Even if your bowl record is good it means nothing
@@Scrumtrulescent1 how if u have a good bowl record as a head coach ur usually pretty good
But, yet, you gents bring up that ONE SB appearance for Harbaugh. Lol.
Klatt should have his own show with immense knowledge and facts since whitlock got this show with biased opinions and anti humans.
LOL Shea Patterson is the best QB in the conference????? He hasn’t even taken a B1G snap yet 😂
Im going to laugh when michigan loses week 1
Lol
What success?
What success are you talking about? REALLY?
A friend wants to know if Whitlock still has a job there.
